  1. Bob, From what I can see you have a 2' cube, but I am wondering about the shelf. How deep is it, and how much is left open, and where? Also, wht is the size of the openings on the front? BTW, the Heresy's are sounding better every day.
  2. There is a pair on Ebay that are in Idaho. They sell in 24 hrs. and the price is $202.00. I am not the seller......etc, etc., etc.
  3. My digital camera is now touring Turkey with my wife. I can take some pictures when she returns, which is after 10/17. I did this as a first experiment with my "gift" Heresy's. I have not done this for anyone else. I have built other speaker boxes, and have palns to do so with the Heresy's, but that won't be for some time. My thoughts are to make single boxes that house the Heresy components as well as a sub. I will use active xover for the sub/Heresy so my tube amp does not have to do heavy lifting. Sorry for the delay in responding, but life can get in the way of hobbies at times.
  4. I just finished by heresy modification. I built the ALK xover, thanks again Al, and also damped to horns and woofer frame with 5 lbs. of modeling clay. Along with that I put 2 8x11 deflex pads on the sides and 1 on the back. Also on the back I attached 1 1 1/2 x 3 piece of oak going from side to side. At this point I am enjoying a Sade concert in my music room. The bass is SOOOO much better than before, and the detail in the squaker and tweet are amazing. If anyone is still wondering if they should mos their Heresy, order your parts today and never look back.
  5. I saw these on ebay and I have to wonder why some people do what they do. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5723054416&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
  6. I have finished my "home brew" ALK's for my Heresy 1's. I have the spring type connectors on the horns and wondered how others have made this connection. My first impulse is to use bare wire, but there are other options out there as well. So, how did YOU do it?
  7. This looks like it might be of interest to some: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5720843111&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW I am not the seller, nor do I have any association with this.
  8. Thanks Al. I will have a net value of 4.4 mFd by using the 2.4 I have and the 2.0 that I have ordered. Same place, just a different route. I will use the Zen cap for the parallel. BTW, have you tried the Sonic Cap? I am using them as coupling caps and like them very much.
  9. They don'y carry the 4.3, only the 4.7. I ordered from North Creek, it seems that I am short 2 1.0 mFd caps anyway and they have 2.0 mFd Zen caps.
  10. You are correct in that parallel caps add together. I have found a 1.2 mFd GE cap on the Madisound site and will order it today. Thanks
  11. I have a small problem and hope one of you, AL K?, can help. I am ready to start building my Cornwall/Heresy version of the ALK crossover and find that I have a 2.4 mFd cap instead of a 4.2 mFd cap. Since the only place I have found is Solen for this value, is a 4.7 mFd OK to use in its place? I can find these anywhere. Thanks
  12. please see the other post. Sorry
  13. I guess we like different things; I am using the "full mod" setup. I agree it is more sloid state in the sound, but with none of the negatives of many solid atae amps.
  14. This is for sale on ebay. I have no connection to this company or these products, I just thought I would sare: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3284&item=5717756025
  15. I believe that Adire Audio also has kits with Knock-down cabinets for their 12" and 15" subs.
  16. I am using a Dynaco ST-70 with a Citation 4 pre. I also have a SS Citation 11 and a Bottlehead Foreplay Pre. The citation 4 is stock, and romantic, but not particularly accurate. I believe that it can be made so by some tweaking. The Dynaco is 1 of 2 that I have; 1 is modified using the Curcio Audio mod and the other is modified using the Triode mod. They are very different from each other. The Triode is much like the original, soft and slow is how I would bescribe it. The other Dynaco is very solid sounding, fast and articulate. Guess which one I am using...... So both are modified and both sound very good, but VERY different from each other. The Foreplay is not the "stock" version, but is hot-rodded with many of the tweaks found on the Bottlehead Forum site. It is a fine pre, excellant drive and very dynamic, particularly so for a tube unit. It is very different, again, from the Citaion 4. Both are very good and I use both on a regular bassis. The Citation 11 is very harsh and granular compared with the tube units. It is quiet, but it sounds like there is sand in the circuit, no pun intended. Very harsh by comparison. In other words, there are very good units still out there from the "glory years" of hollow state electronics, and they can be made MUCH better by the use of modern components not available in the 40's, 50's and early 60's. Who does the mods can make a huge difference, so upgrading a stock unit would be good, but if the unit is working and the iron is good, in the case of an amp, it can be modified to use one of many new circuits that are available. In some cases the board is the "new", using the same circuit and tubes, and just replacing the board. I have my flameproof suit on, so I expect that there will be those that disagree with these opinions, but remember that it is MY opinion, and everyone can, and should, have their own. Always remember, YMMV, but it is about YOUR ears and what YOU want to hear.
  17. Thanks for the help. They arrived today. Now I'm waiting for the last part.
  18. you can get the ACI 12" from Meniscus Audio. Mark is the only place that has these. Also, check the LDSG web site for other choices as well.
  19. What are you using for the sub? I have 2 that I use, 1 at a time. One is a NHT 1259 and the other is an Adire Shiva. Both are very good.
  20. I thought of doing just that, but I like the sound of a sealed woofer. I use a sub with mine now with good results, just wondering.........
  21. I am upgrading my Heresy's with an ALK crossover(thanks for the design Al). It got me wondering if: 1) has anyone rebuilt the cabints to a larger size? 2) what material did they use? I would like to do mine in cherry, they are oiled walnut, and thought of doing a multi-density enclosure of baltic birch and mdf laminated together. Any thoughts?
