  1. Anyone have this receiver? How does it compare to older receivers such as the Pioneer 950 and the Marantz 2385? I am thinking about purchasing one and a pair of RF-35's for a 2 channel system and think it should sound great with its 120 WPC and 45 amps of current. I keep looking at those vintage receivers on EBAY and it brings back fond memories of when I was younger and owned such equipment. But I like that the 4380 has a sub out and I would also be a little concerned about reliability issues with a 25 year old receiver. Any input would be appreciated!
  2. Thanks for the great info! I am very disappointed that they would cut 24 minutes off the IMAX version of the film OR at least offer DTS sound on the original. I have had the DD original version for a long time and have wanted to get the DTS version for awhile. But I will go buy the new set this weekend anyhow.
  3. Anyone buy this yet? Is there a DTS version available?

    Denon AVR-4800

I realize it doesn't have some of these formats. All I really care about is that it does have DD and DTS. I am most concerned about amplifier quality. From reviews I've read elsewhere it looks very promising. And from the looks of the inside I'm pretty impressed with the huge transformer and extra large capacitors. By the wat if the deal goes through I will be stealing this for $150!!

    Denon AVR-4800

Let me correct myself. It is THX Ultra certified not Ultra II. It is not Dolby EX compatible but has THX Ultra, THX Surround EX , and DTS ES decoders.

It does handle ALL of those formats. In fact it was the worlds first receiver with THX Ultra II certification AND all those surround formats. The only thing is it has only 5 channels of amplification built in. They offered a 2 channel amp to go with it for a 7.1 setup. But like I said that is not an issue as I will someday purchase a good 2 channel amp to go with it.
  7. I am thinking about purchasing one of these units. If the deal goes through I will be getting it DIRT cheap. I would love to hear comments about this unit from people who own it and how it compares to current models such as 3805 & 4802/3 ? I would greatly appreciate any feedback on this. I realize that you need a seperate amp to power the surround bask channels and that is not an issue for me.
  8. I like Syracuse since I'm from NY. But now I live in North Carolina and I like Wake Forest too.
  9. 16 Cd's in all discs are: The Free Wheelin' Bob Dylan Another Side Of Bob Dylan Bringing It All Back Home Highway 61 Revisited Blonde On Blonde John Wesley Harding Nasheville Skyline Planet Waves Blood On The Tracks Desire Street Legal Slow Train Coming Infidels Oh Mercy Love And Theft
  10. Also the classic Grease!
  11. I agree with all the Choices here but I would have to say Chicago is my fave.
  12. I have been wanting this for awhile but couldn't see spending $250 for it. In the recent issue of the BMG music club magazine they had it half off at $129.99 so I ordered it. Much to my surprise (and delight) when I got it I was billed $43.44 for it!! Someone or their computer made a huge mistake. No complaints here as I am glad to take it at a giveaway price! I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but will give my review after I do.

    Alison Krauss

I am a huge fan of hers! If you enjoyed the show you must pick up the DVD Alison Krauss & Union Station Live. It has state of the art picture and sound quality! Enjoy.
  15. Oops triple post my bad! This is so slow today I didn't think it worked the first 2 times.
  16. Let me know how you like it. I think it might just be the best sounding country recording I have out of about 600 country CD's.

  19. Merle Haggard- For The Record 43 Legendary Hits. If you are a Merle fan this is a must have. Some people don't like it because they are re-recordings of his songs. But I like the newer recordings much better than the originals. It is an excellent recording with such a clean, clear sound and tight, punchy bass. And the duets with Jewel on Silver Wings and That's The Way Love Goes are to die for. Jewels vocals really give me goosebumbs everytime !!!
  20. AC/DC- Back In Black Led Zeppelin -IV Scorpions - Blackout
  21. I have narrowed my search down to theses 2 receivers. Best Buy has the Pioneer on sale this week for $399 and I can get the HK for $469 from J&R's. For now the receiver will be used for a bedroom HT system. I will be running the Promedia Ultras through the preamp out section of the reciever. I will also be running the Promedia 2.1's through the surround back preamp outs for a 7.1 system. In the future the reciever will be running a Synergy or Reference Series 7.1 system. I am torn between these 2 recievers. I like the reviews I have read on both of them. I like the looks of the HK better. I don't know if I care about THX certification or not. The HK has more digital inputs and a coaxial output in addition to the optical output. The Pioneer has component video upconversion and the HK does not. What I care MOST about is sound quality. It will be used for 50% music and 50% HT. I am leaning a little towards the HK but would appreciate any input on this as I will be purchasing one of them by Wednesday.
  22. Best Buy has the 1014 on sale for $399.99 starting tomorrow. It's a good deal and I plan on purchasing one!
  23. Anyone have either Daylight Again or The Acoustic Concert? I almost bought them last night but have some concerns about the sound qualilty. I am always afraid to buy older concerts fearing that the sound qualilty is not up to modern standards. I have bought several that I was very dissapointed with. So I would appreciate any comments from people who own them.
  24. Yes I bought it when it first came out. It has good picture and sound and I think it is a good movie but not a great one.
  25. Does anyone own the Ultimate Edition yet? If so I am wondering if the movie is a Superbit title. I looked at it and it appears that it is. Also does anyone feel that the extra features are worthwile to warrant the purchase?
