  1. i'd go NAD all the way!! even if your cd/dvd/cablebox, is mid-fi it will make the best out of it/them. (thats if they have digital outs so the NAD can do the D/A conversion) and at that price point it going to be hard to top. and if you think im biased just check my system profile jay
  2. i have been taking all this info in over the last few weeks and have vacation next week. i plan on ropeing my horns and recableing the the motor leads. i saw on a thread here that someone had added a 1 inch thick board to the rear of his cornwalls. anyone know if worth the effort, while i have the corns apart?? i also want to put a felt seal on the back board jay
  3. where is your crossover set? if its set to high your mains wont have that much bass. the lfe stuff is all way down there and you will still feel the lfe, and hear the bass if you set the crossover to the correct setting for your system jay

  5. i have a 220 volt main box that i will be tapping to power my system. should i pull 2 lines , one from each side of the service or pull 2 lines from the same side of the 220. i was thinking one side for the dvd/processor/cd/ect. and the other side for the amps. what would be better to reduce ground loops ect?? jay
  6. just wondering, why three tone arms?? jay
  7. im fed up with my local cable co , they lollygag around when it comes to hi-def. they got into a pissing match with the local cbs channel and they pulled the hi-def signal. now fox is broadcasting hi-def and the cable co doesnt know if or when they will pick up the signal. i went to to best buy and they have a dvd/hd reciever the dvd upconverts to 1080i and outputs the signal on rgb/ component. this is the first player that i found that does this all other boxes output on dvi only(i am not dvi capable) the hd signal is also output via the rgb/component outs so this interests me. does anyone have experience with lg equipment thanks jay

  11. one morning a bunch of santa's elvs called in sick. the replacement elvs worked way slower and production got behind schedule, this stressed santa out!! he decided to releive the stress by taking the new sled out for a spin, but when he went to the barn to get the raindeer hooked up, several were missing and this stressed santa out even more!! he went to the liquer cabinet to have a shot of rum and cider, and low and behold all of his booze was missing, he turned around and dropped the cider jug, it shattered into a million pieces. this really stressed santa out. while going to get the broom to sweep up the mess, there came a knock at the door. santa trudged over and opened the door. and there was a little angel, with a beautiful christmas tree. the angel said,"hi santa isnt it a great day at the north pole, i have this beautiful tree for you, where would you like me to put it??" and thus the tradition of the angle on top of the tree was born!!!! jay
  12. nad electronics(t563 dvd,t773 a/v receiver) sony projector(any of the new hi-def units) sterwart filmscreens(firehawk 100 inch, for your room size) good cables (too many opinions here) and this leaves you with about $10,000 for some klipsch speakers "sounds" like a great place to start jay

JM ---------------- j's talking about the nad inputs. they have a "normal" in and a "lab"in the lab input workes great if you dont have a turntable or any vibration effected soarces, because it does bypass the infrasonic and other filters built into the normal inputs jay

What do you own that needs that kind of power? ---------------- haveing way to much power is a good thing!! the amps coast along and you have all the headroom you could ever want. and when and if you decide to crank it up you have less chance of blowing speakers if the amps are not out of power when the speakers are maxed out jay
  15. dude!!!! whats with the big print??? i can understand why you might think we're all hard of hearing here, after all most of us have klipsch based systems!!! but no need to scream at us, REALLY!!!! LOL, JAY

  17. set the bridging switch to bridged, set the impedance switch to 8 ohms/ normal the input is the left pre/ in the positive speaker terminal is the left+ the negitive speaker terminal is the right+ you will need two rca's one for each left and right, from the preamp outs to the amp inputs(see above) check out my system profile i love my NAD stuff (almost as much as my KLIPSCH stuff!!!) jay

  19. are yor grills removeable? or are the hereseys the older ones where the grill cloth is wrapped round the motor board? if they are the removeable grills make a wooden frame that is slightly bigger that the grill board and stretch the grill cloth over the frame and staple it to the frame. then put the glue on the grill board and lay it flat on the grill cloth and weigh it down while the glue dries. if the grill is wrapped around the motor boards just stetch and staple jay
  20. ---------------- There was no forklift involved, as we speak, our dear writer is still picking his 'nads up off the parking lot! LOL ---------------- he dropped his amps???? jay
  21. sorry i took the question to say, can "projectors" burn in jay
  22. great topic!! i have often wondered about this myself. but due to the fact that untill i got my new processor every other audio component that i purchased was either a demo or used, i didnt ever hear a differance after hooking it up. when i got my new processor i think that it sounded better with time but now im not sure?? on the other hand my family did have a chance to experiance a burn in. about 4 years ago my house got hit by lightning. the room that was effected was an addition thats built on the back of the house. the light sockects were all exploded out of the wall on one side of the room and the cords were burnt away from the sockets about 3 feet. lucky for me the only thing lost was the tv/vcr/cable box. i had the wireing fixed and replaced the spent equipment. the first time i fired the system back up it sounded thin, flat, and shallow. i thought that i was imagining things and then my wife, who likes great sound, but could care less about it in the grand scheme of things, walked into the room and asked why the sound was so crappy??? i had not mentioned my feelings to her about my same concerns!!! then my oldest son, who cares deeply about his music said the exact same thing!!!! i called the shop the next day and asked if they knew what the deal was and was told to have the rewire checked and call them back. i did and all checked out ok. i was in the area and stopped in to see them, and by chance the audioquest rep was visiting that day. he overheard my conversation and opined that my cables may have, unpolerized?? (that may not be the term he used, it escapes me) but he sugested that i need to burn in the cables again. i then left the system playing at low volumn 24/7 and sure enough the great sounding system that i had been building for years slowly came back to life and repaired itself. im talking a huge differance. the audio quest guy gave me his number so i called him to report on the progress and asked why the cables didnt sound that way when i got them and he told me that they are burnt in at the factory before shipment.. things that make you go HHHHHMMMMM jay
  23. i did lots of reading before i bought my projector and from what got out of all of it was ,no they dont, unless they are crt based jay

  25. It really is a shame, but only for those listening on high fidelity systems. All the compression crap really does make CDs sound better in the car and on crappy systems. It'd be nice if record companies could distribute higher quality versions of the music, but the market for it just isn't there...and if they did do this, then they'd of course charge more for it. ---------------- thats the answer!!!! look at what "they" are doing to the tv set. "they" will soon force everyone to upgrade to a hi-def set, because all available signals will be hi-def. so get a hi-def set or dont watch. why not have "them" implement this into music as well?? outlaw crappy systems!!!! as a side note, i really do like the specialty guys like ryco mobile fidelity (for cd and vinal) and glady pay the exta $$ for the quality recordings. the sad thing is that i heard that mfsl is defunct and the discs are harder and harder to find jay
