  1. Hi,would a Mac 1900 refurbished receiver match well with Chorus II's ? or would a Marantz 2250B refurbished be a better match. I've found a seller that has both. But I can't audition,he's many miles away. Many thanks, Robert
  2. Hi Texas42, interested in the Marantz, shoot me some details,w/wood cabinet, all bulbs work? overall condition and any pictures? asking price? Cheers, Robert
  3. Hiya,I need a vintage receiver for the den,to use for listening to radio and cd only,to hook up to my Chorus II's. Anybody have a vintage one for sale? also what Marantz 2200 series sounds best? 2270 maybe? Cheers, Robert
  4. Actually that's my late great uncle Piere' Wienee,on my dad's side of the family. On his side of the family instead of pets looking like their owners, the family (owners) look like their pets.
  5. That's fine,i started it when we ran out of beer and I had to switch to wine. Wine goes straight to my head so now I must go to bed. Cheers, Robert
  6. First off,Happy New Year Everybody.. Wishing you all the Best in 2006!! Call me crazy (er) :~).. I decided I wanted an MP3 player for Christmas, something small to listen to tunes when walking the dogs, yardwork, blah blah.. to replace my 5 year old bulky cassette walkman. Iriver blah blah. sounded good.. Well I got the 512mb iRiver, didn't even open the package, hmmm 512mb isn't big enough, headed to Circuit City to exchange (which is my middle name EXCHANGE!! just keep the RECEIPT!!) got the Creative Zen 6GB on sale, liked it for a couple days, small, setting it up drove my small brain CRAZY (er) then read more about MP3's took it back got a 30G iPod,liked it for a few days, more space would be kewl I thought. wanted a Nano and so did every teenie in the world for Christmas. Took it back got a 60GB ipod,I'm now in the process of importing 90-100 Cd's into it. Found the Headfi forum,I need a portable headphone amp,got the Ray Samuels Hornet, that made a big difference, got used Shure E4C's canal earphones off audigon, now I'm set. Now I found out that Redwine Audio modifies the 4th generation Ipods to sound very good. Hmmm.do I take the 5G I just bought back and buy the open box 4th generation at Circuit City and send it off to Redwine. NOW I must stop!! ..plus some folks say (from reading forums) that the 5G ipods sound nearly as good as the Red Wine modded 4G.. Man O'man I never realized there is such a culture in portable audio. iLounge,Ipodstudio,XIN forum .. All I wanted is good sounding tunes while walking and in the car so i don't have to lug dozens of Cd's. Could MP3 = the DEVIL? I'll have to post a picture of my Ray Samuels Hornet portable headphone amp,it's tee ninee! Man O'Man it makes me LOVE my old fashioned tube gear and speakers! even more, plus they are built to last many many years. Cheers, Robert
  7. Thanks, I read about the earphone jack problems,on the Cnet user reviews... buying a new gadget and reading all the reviews till my brain hurts is tiresome, hoping mine will be o.k. (fingers and toes crossed) maybe that's why Creative Zen is selling the older refurbished 5gb micro's on Epay.. Cheers, Robert
  8. I've been lucky to buy the REAL stuff, hifi gear, from USA cottage industry folks, stuff made to LAST!! like,Craig Nosvalves VRD's,Mark Juicy Music BB,hornshoppe speakers from Ed Schilling in SC,Klipsch (Chorus II's) of course,VPI TT,Scott tuner, well not cottage, but made in USofA!.. Cheers, Robert
  9. Somebody has to keep those workers in China in business,LOL..
  10. Thanks for da' help..I feel so modernized, last year we finally got a new home pc laptop and roadrunner..and now I'm MP3-ed,at work I got a fancy new cell phone and a new Mac laptop, wife got a Nextel for work. I got the Mrs. a PDA for Christmas. Before I had no idea what MP3 and PDA meant...Sha-ZAM!! I first picked up a iRiver H10,it was too complicated and took it back to Circuit City and got a Creative Zen Micro 6GB player for $149.00 has a Fm tuner and is easy to use. So far I'm really liking it. Plus it's small. I need one with a FM tuner,iPods don't have radio!! CNet rates the Zen as Excellent and editor's pick. I noticed last night Creative Zen has refurbished Micro's 5Gb units on Ebay for $139. Cheers, Robert
  11. Howdee-I'm new to the MP3 thing. I just want to replace my Sony walkman. Looking for a MP3 player with FM tuner under $250. Considering the Iriver T10 @ Circuit City for $119 which has a Fm tuner. Any others I should consider?. I'll just use it outside while walking the dogs, doing yard work etc. and what's a good headphone choice? Many thanks, Robert
  12. "They" say the Fisher 800b sounds best of all the receivers. Folks at Fisher talk on Yahoo are experts about that. But the 800b is tougher to find than the 800C..
  13. Seimens steel pin maybe,I just put mine into my player and I'm too lazy to pop the top to compare.
  14. I too have the AH' got it off A-Gon w/all the toys..upsampler,feets,etc,..mine came w/stock Jan Phillips,Seimens 7308 W.German steel pins and Amperex PQ 7308 USA gold pins, all tubes and player came from Upscale Audio. I just put in the Seimens W.German steel pins for the first time,I think they sound better than the Amperx PQ gold pins, but what do I know. The dude I bought my AH said he liked the Amperex PQ gold pins best. Which do you guys like best? the W.German Seimens steel pins 7308's or Amperex USA Gold Pin 7308? I do have a pinchwaist PQ Amperex gold pin in my Blueberry linestage and I loves it!! :~) Cheers, Robert
  15. welcome aboard! folks here are friendly and always helpful!! Congrats on the purchase.. Cheers, Robert
  16. Music Hall MMF-5 $350 on Audiogon now,Just FYI..
  17. Hi there,on ww.audiogon.com there's a used Music Hall MM4-5 for $350,that's $50 over u'r limit but I believe that's a very good bargain. Or do a google search for Ken Drescher audio.net he sells vintage stuff in minty shape,I've bought a few things from him the past,he's a very good dealer and sells great stuff. He really knows his stuff and only sells minty condition gear. That dual turntable he has looks nice! also check out the turntable factory,a google search too, sorry I don't have the links. Joel at the turntable factory sells tables for under $300 too. Cheers, Robert
  18. I likes my Blueberry MK1.. Lots!! Hmmm thinking about getting a new power cord though, should I should I ?? Signal cable maybe? can't afford more than $80 bones. Do they really make enough difference?? Cheers, Robert
  19. I was very pleasantly surprised when my Proton 300 radio showed up yesterday, got it off Epay, the tuner is AWESOME!! it pulls in my favorite public radio station which is 75 miles away and I'm on the fringe of their coverage area and that's with an antenna using speaker wire. Geeze Louise! Plus it sounds very very good. Great bass! It lives in our bathroom now replacing a cheapo Sony boombox. I read on Audio Asylum what a great table radio it is and folks weren't lying. Apparently Proton makes NAD? The 300 radio weighs 20 lbs. separate amp for woofer 20 watts and 5 watt amp for tweeter and a scholtz (sp?) tuner. Mine came with the second speaker which is also biamped but I don't have room for the second speaker,so I put it on Epay. The Proton 300 was made in the mid 1980's and reatiled for around $269 for the radio and $125 or so for the extra speaker. I thought I would share this in case anybody is looking for a real good table top radio. It blows away the Tivoli and Bose (Blows).. Cheers to all, Robert
  20. There's a Scott 310E tuner on Audiogon,$1000 bones. Just FYI,it ain't mine. Cheers, Robert
  21. Go to www.audiogon.com and do a search for pebbles, it's the All Brillant Pebbles. :~) Cheers, Robert
  22. I've owned both the Chorus I's and the II's. I sold the I's when I found a pair of Chorus II's. I really could not tell a whole lot of difference between the I's and II's the II's did have a tad bit better bass, plus the crossovers on the II's looked like they were higher quality. I found a pair of Chorus I's 20 minutes from my house in perfect mint shape for $500 then a few months later found a pair of near mint Chorus II's 6 hours away for $550,so I sold the I's and drove 6-hrs to get the II's. But looking back it was sort of a lateral move. The I's are just as great as the II's. Just my opinion,I like the Forte's as much as the Chorus'. Cheers, Robert
