You should go buy a lottery ticket! I took a boom box from a spare room and wired the Forte to it and the speaker is fine ~phew~. Now to decide if the AVR is reparable or get a replacement. Thanks!

I've had 4 Forte's from the mid 80's. I think they are originals. The speaker wire connectors are round, not square. I have a Yamaha AVR. I was calibrating my speakers/room when there was a fairly loud "pop" from the left front speaker, then no sound. I will try to remove the AVR as the problem by wiring a small speaker to verify that channel is still viable. Time for new xover? What else can I include/do to do any further problem determination? Ok - Here's my story... In the mid 80's, I was newly married and had just bought a house. I had an old Pioneer SX370 receiver, driving a pair of original Bose 501's. I was working in the Framingham Ma. area at the time, and was asking so-workers if they knew anyone that worked at Bose, that could get me a good deal on some 901's. I was interested in the 901's because an in-law of mine had them, and they sounded awesome. I was told that if I was looking to spend that kind of money, to listen to Klipsch Fortes. So, off I went to Tweeter Etc and listened to them. I bought them on the spot, and they sounded even better at home. After listening to the Forte's for a period of time, I visited my in-laws with the 901's. I was shocked. Not to trash the 901's, but they sounded like they were playing through a blanket that was draped over them. I had gotten used to the Forte sound and the 901 sound was now sounding muddied, not clear and crisp at all. I knew right then I had made the correct decision. Some friends stopped by a few months later, and liked the sound of the Fortes. My friend had a relative that worked for General Cinemas(GC) and that they(GC) were upgrading their theater speakers to some professional model of Klipsch speakers. Through the relative, my friends were able to get Fortes for half-price. Well, I asked and was also able to get a pair of Fortes for half price. A second pair of Fortes for my home. A great score! My receiver had room for A and B speakers, so my "stereo" room was now full of even more sound. When Dolby Prologic came out, my Forte's worked well for years with a Yamaha DSP receiver/decoder. When the Yamaha receiver finally gave up the ghost(about 3 years ago), I moved to real DD5.1 HT, with a Denon 3805. A sub and a center speaker were added to my existing Fortes. I've been most pleased with the longevitiy of these speakers and how they continue to impress others, in additon to myself. I'd recommend Fortes to anyone that can get a pair. "That's my story, and I'm sticking to it."

I use a KLF-C7 between Forte I's and I can't be more satisfied. Granted, I've never heard an Academy. I went with the C7 because I wasn't about to pay the $$'s for an Academy and they are not very available.

Southern, I've been "infected" with the same fever you have for about 20years now. I bought my first pair of Forte I's from a local Tweeter store and loved the way sound when I got them home. I paid about $1,100 for them Being in Bose's backyard, I was looking to buy some Bose 901's and a co-worker did the right thing by steering me to the Fortes. A friend of mine had a relative working for General Cinema back then. GC was in the process of replacing speakers in a number of theaters with Klipsch speakers and my friend was able to get a pair of Forte's for 1/2 the price. Well, I was able to jump on that opportunity and got a 2nd pair for half what I paid for the 1st pair. Aside from having to replace a woofer early on(digital recording of an F16/18 blew it out) I have had no problems at all. My Forte's have transitioned through different sized rooms, 2-channel, Dolby Pro-Logic, and now HT/DD5.1. I listen to a varied mix of blues, jazz, rock and now HT. Best of luck with yours. You made a good decision in getting them.

I've had the 43" version since Dec, 2003. That would be the HLN437W model. I've not had any issues with it at all. No regrets. If you are looking for more info/opinions on the HLN* models, check over in the avsforum site. There's a monsterously(is there such a word?) long thread there about that Samsung model(s).

I agree with the comments about KLF-C7 center working well with Forte's. I use one between my Forte I's and it sounds smooth across the front to me. I understand the Academy is the "perfect" match and have not had the opportunity to listen to one, but the C7 seems like a real close second place option, given the availability(not!) and price of Academys.

Bummer... That is just so not right. ~sigh~

I have a "similar" sized room. 18'x25', with cathedral ceilings about 15' high. I use Forte I's and they fill the room with sound quite nicely. I do have four of them for HT, but when listening to 2-channel, they play plenty loud enough for me. I've not heard Cornwalls, but the specs indicate that the Forte's go just a tad deeper than the CW's, and have a smaller footprint. I know you're looking at LaScala's but I'm just providing another option. I've always found "options" to be a good thing.

I'm currently looking for a new DVD player/changer. I used to have seperates: a single DVD player, and a 5-disc CD changer. Then the CD changer died and I went with a 5-DVD changer. Now it's in need of being replaced. Is anyone aware of a quality DVD changer, or do I need to think about going back to seperate CD/DVD players? Thanks!

I just upgraded from a JBL PSW1000. That sub has 10' driver and a 100w amp. I had it patched using a cable from my amp's sub-out connection, with a splitter to feed both L&R connections on the sub. I don't have any 1st hand experience with the LaScala's, but I'm thinking it's not in their league. However, it may be better than no sub. I plan to use my old sub with a second system, non-HT. Can't go too wrong for the price.

Just this week, I hooked up an HSU VTF-3 MKII. I'm running it with Forte's all around. I have the volume on the sub sitting at 1.5(out of 6 or 7). I also use the Denon 3805. The sub is connected out the "subwoofer" port, using a cable with RCA/component plugs. Al other speakers come back to the 3805. I ran the Auto-EQ with a Denon mic, and have adjusted settings from there. The AutoEQ set the fronts volume at 6. My sub is positioned to the left of my front soundstage, angled into a corner. I have my Fronts configured as "large", center and rears as "small". The crossover is at 90hz. The LFE setting is at "Sub + Mains". Please understand that I'm still tweaking things, but there's plenty of bass, even though the sub's volume is low on the their volume scale. Enough bass to shake the floor and everything else that's around. For comparision, I run my 3805 between -30 and -25. Any louder and I risk hearing loss(IMO). I don't have an SPL meter. It's on the list. It's not an SVS, but it's certainly putting out more bass than the JBL PSW1000 I was using last week.
