  1. With a screen of white And frame of black Make sure you attach it tight Or youll have an anxiety attack
  2. I don't have the best ear, gear or a ton of time spent listening to quality vinyl on high end equipment. I do have a life long love of music and know what I like. For the few titles I have on CD, Standard issue 70s/80s vinyl and MFSL I can say yes, absolutely the MoFi sounds better. However I don't pass up D2D, Nautilus, or any of the other 1/2 speed mastered titles. That said if you can get Boston's first LP for a few bucks and the MFSL version is 75 or more I can't honestly say it is 20X better. I do know that I want the best sound possible and if I have 75 bucks to blow I just won't be happy with the $3 version. MoFi seemed to, for the most part, put out the big selling LPs of the day. Why not it is a safe bet. So you really can't get a very extensive library if you only want MFSL or any 1/2 speed lp for that matter. You would be stuck with a more or less top 40 collection...maybe that is a bit harsh, it would be very heavily weighted to AOR style of offerings. In my small collection I have a few original Blue Notes, 20 or so MFSLs, some other 1/2 speed LPs and several Classic Records 200g reissues. All of these sound great so I tend to buy/listen to them mostly. The garden variety LPs I have I don't tend to play because I am pretty busy and don't get enough listening time. I want the time I have to be great, not just good. I guess the way I look at it is if I only have a limited amount of listening time and I really like an LP and want it on vinyl over my current CD version my first choice for a 70s rock LP would be MFSL. Who cares if it costs 35-75 bucks? I would much rather spend 100 bucks on a sealed Bob Marley Exodus then buy 10 ten dollar ones because the ebay seller lies to me and they are not in very good condition. Perhaps a bit of an exaggeration but you get the idea. My suggestion, buy a few and try them. Take care of them. If you don't think they are worth it...resell them and you won't be out much. Maybe out some time, shipping costs and a few bucks.
  3. Can you control the projectors focus via remote easily? Or do you have to walk over to it? (I have zero projector experience; still on a 4x3 TV) Not on mine, you have to do it manually. It takes all of about 15 seconds. But you do have to have access to it. A scaler will do it for you automatically. Eventually that is the way I want to go...but like everything....time and money.
  4. This will give you a quick and dirty overview of the sizes and what some common uses are http://carada.com/criterion-series-screens.aspx Forum Member Sfogg really knows this inside and out. I am surprised he has not chimed in. This is handy for calculating viewing distance http://www.myhometheater.homestead.com/viewingdistancecalculator.html#anchor_13194 Somebody on the forum gave me a way to calculate how high up your screen should be from the floor based on seating height...I will have to dig for that. Anyone know what I am talking about. Basically a triangle from you eyes (seated) to 1/3 from the bottom of the screen. Once you know that you can determine the rest. If you have not hit up projectorcentral.com they have a lot of good info as well as a throw distance calculator. I got a ton more on screens I will have to dig. Unfortunately I am away from a computer tomorrow and Friday. Read up on my referenced post above tons of good info from sfogg and others. Keep this thread alive with the rest of your questions and I will get back to you. How soon do you have to pull the trigger on projector/screen/etc.? Final advice find seats and order them ASAP. Mine took the full 10 weeks of the 8-10 weeks they quoted me. It is sooooo painful to have the room done and not have the seats you want.
  5. I am not too hot to get the MFSL Beatles collection, more interested in BC-13 as I was asking about in my other posts today. Just offering up the fact that I saw a lot of BIN MFSL LPs on ebay today. A couple of weeks back there as a lot of interest in a 150+ collection of MoFi LPs. With all of those BIN auctions I thought forum members might be able to get a few of the ones they were interested in and not have to mess with weeks and weeks of auctions. Several were below what I typically see the same titles end up at after 3, 5 or 7 day auction. I would not expect the Doors/Blondie/Stones and others to be there tomorrow. EDIT: Forgot to mention about the EQ thing. Might not be everyone's cup of tea, but given the original masters tapes, heavy vinyl and virgin vinyl; I find most - not all - MFSL selections to be very nicely done. It is a huge bonus that most of them are also well taken care of. I am of the mind set that if I want to get a classic rock LP and am already going to pay inflated shipping I would rather take my chances with a 35 dollar MoFi then a 5 dollar standard issue from the 70s. If a little extra high and low end is not your bag...cool...more for me to buy. On the Dead's American Beauty for example I hear instruments that I have never heard before. Same with Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. To be fair, most of the last 20 years of music memory I have is from CD as I am currently replacing my long gone LP collection. It would be nice to have every format of every album and every version at your disposal to compare and contrast. I sure there are people that do.
  6. No black bars on top or bottom EVER. You always have the same height picture (as tall as your screen is) just the width changes. Read the 3 pages from the link above and check out my pix on page 2 post #5. I think that will make it all clear. If not I would be more then happy to talk to you about it on the phone about it. I feel like I must spread the word...watching any 2.35 movie (LOTR, SW, iRobot, truly 100s) fill your screen top to bottom and side to side makes as much difference as going from a 19" TV from the 70s to a 42" plasma would. I seriously believe 16:9 to be the worst choice. 1:33 (TV aspect ratio) is even better I can explain why if you like. The other movie formats like 1.85 and 2.05 are a step in the right direction. I would pick 1.85 over 2.05. It took me a while to understand it all. Talking/reading about it was very had to understand with my pea brain. Once I built a screen and played with all my different DVDs the light when on. I am telling ya man...don't buy a screen until you at least give it a try. BTW I have Carada and Stewart screen samples at home if anyone wants them. White, Brilliant White, and a couple of gray ones. Pay the shipping and they are yours...call/write all the companies and they will send you samples for free. I waited about 6 weeks for the Stewart samples.
  7. That sounds like a grand plan. I am all for using somebody else's speakers. Problem is that the garage is not done...and the builder is dragging his feet. So they would just sit, unused for some time. I really wanted a pair of those beat up LSs that you got from Thump...but same issue on a bigger scale. I think after the first of the year I will be looking to outfit the Rich-Garage-itorium. Maybe I need a double bass bin stack like your picture. 33'X28' you think those Ind. LSs would fill that space with brick vibrating sound?
  8. Even though you did not ask I will post this for the benefits of others. There are not many things in the Audio/Video world where I would say I have all the answers, but I put a lot of time/effort/sleepless nights into the screen dimensions. I know I made the right decision. In my mind if you do anything but a 2.35:1 screen you are making a huge mistake. Dont take my word for it either talk to David Giles, davidg@carada.com, he is a super guy and will talk to you on the phone about this subject till he is blue in the face. And he does not care what brand of screen you buy.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Check out this discussion: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/479790/ShowPost.aspx Take your time and read all the posts. Check out my construction idea for a temp screen on page 2 post #5 and click on the links to the various pix I have showing the different types of pictures on the temp screen. Be sure and note that there are no black bars on the top/bottom of the screen ever; no matter what the projector is showing. It just becomes wider or narrower. I suggest you get your projector and build a temp screen and play with it for a while before making any decision. Keep in mind it is close to the proper aspect ratio given the stuff I could quickly buy at Home Depot. You would obviously have a much larger screen, but the idea would be the same. Here are some pix of the real screen and some with a movie playing. Lights are on/off to show the picture and the screen. Some are with a Chorus center others a belle. Like I said in the earlier post you might fit just fit a LS under the screen with a wider but shorter screen. http://mantistech.com/klipsch/FrontLightsOff.JPG http://mantistech.com/klipsch/FrontLightOn.JPG http://mantistech.com/klipsch/rpBelleCloset.JPG http://mantistech.com/klipsch/rpBelleFront3.JPG http://mantistech.com/klipsch/rpLeftSide.JPG The 2.35:1 screen just gives you so much more of a movie feeling when you are watching a DVD that is set up that way. I find that more and more of the movies are being done this way too. Sorry if this sounds like I am beating this to death...but I really feel the screen is the most important part in giving the movie experiance. No movies are produced in 16:9 only HDTV. If you don't like the 2.35 at least get a 1.85 or 2.05...anything but 16:9 (1.78). EDIT: BTW at 120" diagonal 2.35 screen with frame is only about 51 inches high (114.5 inches wide by 51.1 inches high)
  9. Does this all make sense? Sure does. I think you are right about not saving much space. I honestly don't think the bass off center, 1/2 the width of the HF section would matter. I would start there over mounting pieces above/below the screen. IndyKlipschFan has the industrial LS and I am pretty sure he has the LF section off center to the left and the HF centered. I sure he will chime in here to tell you if there are any issues. Search around there are some simple formulas on how to determine correct screen height given seated position and distance from screen. Once you got that figured out you will know pretty closely how much space under the screen you will have. My room is a lot smaller then yours (guessing by the screen size you describe) so my 96 inch screen 2.35:1 AR has enough room for a Belle/Chorus/Cornwall under it. Do you have your screen purchased yet? If not I would strongly no make that STRONGLY suggest you consider a 2:35 to 1 screen and not the HD dimensions of 16:9. If you are interested I can explain why. A bonus of doing this might yield a wider, but shorter screen...then you might not have any height issues with the LS. EDIT: Looks like IKF posted when I was typing...I guess the LF section is to the right.
  10. Do you have room for another KG4 as a center? That will be your best case scenario. Not always possible with CRT type TVs. However, if you are going with a projector consider another KG4 in the center. If you are going to listen to a lot of multi channel music and not just watch movies then you should beg borrow and steal to find a way to make it 5 KG4s. Again not always possible, but that will give you the most seamless transitions as movies/music move around. Tell us more about your room (size shape) and music tastes...if any or if this is strictly for movies. Welcome to the forum. There is tons of good info and lots of nice people here. BTW KG4s were my first Klipsch speakers...they are great!
  11. Yea, that price is about what I have been looking at for the last several weeks...just recently they have started to climb. Christmas perhaps. No real rush on my end. I want one in great shape so willing to wait.
  12. Sounds like a great plan to me. I can't imagine the bass bin being off center could be noticeable. Just to be sure is the height of B.Bin on its side and HF section on top still too tall? Sort of a shorter, but still centered version. Risers for the seats could put you are the correct viewing height too if that is an option. Perhaps your reasons for lowering the screen are different then I am imagining. What is the full set up?
  13. I am going to be in the Tysons corner area tomorrow (Thursday) If somebody wants them to make the trip from D.C. to 25 miles north of Baltimore (1 hour south of philly) let me know and I will pick them up. Too bad the timing is not good. I am building a garage and will need some tune-age out there soon. The wife will have my ba!!s if I was to buy them less then 2 weeks after selling my Chorus. The do look nice. Can I have them on indefinite loan?
  14. Wow, lots of good infor at that site...not much talk about sound quality. They did mention that the Holland issue was slightly better "quality" then the UK. Not sure if that means sound or the quality of the box, posters, etc.
  15. Joe, thanks for the heads up on Australia. The guy selling is actually in the U.S. He is not the original owner. This makes me a little suspicious as to the quality/care given to the LPs. Not sure why he would be getting rid of it so soon. Still his feedback is 100% and the auction sounds decent, so I am considering it. I am most curious to know if they are the same LPs repackaged for different markets or if they are pressed in different parts of the world with different sound quality. http://cgi.ebay.com/Beatles-Blue-Box-BC-13-Australian-Pressing-All-Inserts_W0QQitemZ4789102985QQcategoryZ306QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemv Don't you have a set? How do you like if? I saw you bidding on it a few months back so did not bid myself. That looked like a nice set and if I remember correctly it was on the east coast too.
  16. Looking to pick up a Beatles Blue Box collection BC-13. I see one on ebay with reasonable BIN, however it is the Australian version. I really don't care about the collectability or the difference in boxes, but I do care about the sound. I have been told that the Parlaphon/Apple recordings in the UK version are pretty good. - Anyone know if the different versions (I have seen German, Swedish, Australian) have different LPs and thus different sounds or are they all the same with different packaging.? - If there is a difference anyone know what is the "best"? - Might as well ask...anyone here have one to sell? If I remember correctly at least JoeS, Parrot and Fini have them don't ya? How do you like em?
  17. Nah - he's ripped them all onto his iPod and doesnt need them anymore. Both of those made me laugh...well done!
  18. Might be a dumb question, but I don't know the answer. Does anyone spike a khorn? Or does the fact that it is wedged into the corner make it a totally different animal?
  19. I keep an eye on the MFSL LPs just about every day. Typically there are 150-250 for auction on any given day. For some reason there is an explosion of offerings this morning. Almost 500 titles. A lot from the same seller all with BIN prices. They guy is not giving them away, more like fair to a tad on the high side with the prices. I did see some which I thought were a good deal based on prices I have seen/paid. Doors first LP @ 30 and Stones Some Girls @ 50 come to mind. Based on the exchange with CP1, St.Patrick and myself a couple of weeks back I thought I would give the heads up. http://music.search.ebay.com/mfsl_Records_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR40QQfsooZ2QQfsopZ2QQsacatZ306 No connection with any of the sellers...yada yada yada
  20. Happy Birthday, man! Many, many more. There are lots of good guys with November birthdays...you and I included []
  21. Love in Vain - Stones, Rolling I was so jazzed up about our back and forth here that I just went and listened to the entire LP 180g reissue. Really a nice copy of that LP. She said my breasts they will always be open Baby, you can rest your weary head on me And there will always be a space in my parking lot When you need a little coke and sympathy
  22. No luck calling you tonight. Please check your email BEFORE you ship out my networks. I believe the plan if all went well was to ship Wednesday for a Friday arrival. My office is closed on Friday (finally some recognition for the veteran that I am [H] ) and I gave you my work address for shipping. Anyway I sent you my home address in email. UPS and FedEx will be delivering on Friday even though USPS will not. Man this is going to be a long weekend if the boys in brown don't come knocking at my door. I am as excited as a kid on x-mas eve.
  23. I would suggest looking for a sell or trade offer on the wife[6]
  24. Can't quit now Ill stick my knife right down your throat, baby And it hurts!
