  1. Illthreat, You're right too. But more RAM is never really a bad idea. They put more RAM slots onto a motherboard for a reason. Heh. How do you determine the FSB? I think mine is 333MHz - I checked my motherboard's specs and it gave me this: "400/333/266/200MHz" - this is from the NewEgg websites under "FSB" of my motherboard. Hmmm. But still I'm not a fan of overclocking. To each his own, however! ---------------------------- Hey Verso more RAM is great! Agreed.. Didn't mean to say otherwise. You Set the FSB by looking at a few different things. Your mother board supports (ref. newegg) 400/333/266/200mhz. Sometimes this is set in your BIOS by External Frequency. The External Freq = 1/2 the FSB. For example. If your FSB is 400mhz. The External Clock freq. of the CPU (and RAM) is 200MHz. For example. If your FSB is 333mhz. The ECF. of the CPU (and RAM) is 166MHz. So, it depends on what your processor FSB is. And also your RAM's FSB. speed. So, firstly find your Exact processor. It will have a FSB of X MHz. Secondly, find your Exact RAM. It will have a FSB also of X MHz. (when I say Find, i mean identify/know) So if your proc. has a FSB of 266 and your mem. is 333. Then you can clearly see that your "bottle neck" is your proc. having a lesser FSB clock speed. And NOT always will more RAM defeat a faster processor. It's apples and oranges. I would always suggest buying more RAM then CPU if the CPU difference is negligable. An example of my system: ASUS A7N8X deluxe motherboard. Supports up to 400MHz. FSB. AMD 2700+ , FSB of 333MHz. 1GB of DDR 2700 (333MHz.). So right now, if I purchased Better RAM like OCZ Platinum DDR 3200 (400mhz FSB), I could overclock my little 2700+ proc. a little. OCZ Platinum is Known to overclock very very nicely. For example. It's OEM external clock freq. is 200MHz (400MHz FSB). It can overclock is "stock trim" to ~217 Mhz. And has been carefully overclocked to waaay more with better cooling and management. Or I could not overclock the proc. and purchase a newer proc. with 400MHz. FSB. Overclocking is Not a good idea unless you know what you are doing. It will stress components if done too much. But with technology increasing every year like it does; I don't mind frying a processor if I'm getting 3 years of out it. For the record, I've never fried anything, because I don't overclock excessively. Right now the only thing that is OC is the Video Card. But I have prepped it for doing so. Sorry for the long post.. If this doesn't make sense or you want more info/ help.. please don't hesitate to ask! Best Regards,
  2. yeah, I did remove the jumper. The volume thing I can explain like this: The night before I forgot that I had att. the front ch. by -10db. This would obviously explain the loss of volume. BUT: I compared the biwiring to the std w/ the att. of -10db ON. So both comparison's had been att. by -10db. So, it was not as loud, sure. But atleast I made a fair comparison. Both Biwire and Std. had the -10 db thing going on. Std. wire still had more of a level. Not the best comparison, so... ...that being said. the Biwire was just wire I made into biwire instead of dedicated. I've since bought some Ultralink Ch. Biwire from Omer Humayun of www.ozenterprises.net I'll follow this up when I get the cabling. Best Regars,
  3. There is more to RAM than just MB and GB. You have to also consider the memory clock speed. Also, your processors speed is just as important. Along with this you also have a front sub bus. This can range in MHz also. You can almost determine your weakest link by statistics alone. So Processor at X MHz Front Side Bus at X MHz Memory XX MB at X MHz lots of different variables here. Someone with a 2700+ AMD processor running a 333MHz front side bus, will want to atleast run XX MB of ram at 333MHz or above. You don't want to bottle neck your system. So it's important to know your system, and not blindy take recommendations for your "upgrade path". And there is nothing wrong with overclocking if you do it right. Just with anything in life, if you ask too much, it will blow up. But if you cover your bases, run upgraded cooling and keep things within spec, there is no reason why an overclocked component cannot last for a very long time. Good Luck with your Upgrades!
  4. thanks radiob, I'll try some dedicated cables. What is break in period? Chris

  6. I just went back to std. wiring. Okay... now there is waaaaay more sound with single wire! Could there be that big of a difference between the wire I used? The Single Wire I had been using was white colored, 10 year old, Monster XP. The Biwire I made last night was clear, 2 year old, Monster XP. Either way, Single Wire sounds a hell-of-a-lot better! Now... whether or not I even should swing for the UltraLink cable. Probably will just so I can stop using Monster products. Best Regards & Comments Welcome!! Chris
  7. biwired my rf5's last night. Didn't get a chance to try it out until now. It appears as if I lost a bit of volume? IOW, I have to turn my receiver up higher. Cannot really tell if it sounds better becuase of the biwire or the new wire. But there is a little more crispness. But seems I lost something... I removed Monster XP that was like 9 years old. Replaced with (rat-shack) Monster XP that I made into biwire. Any Thoughts? Chris
  8. I biwired my rf5's last night. Didn't get a chance to try it out until now. ignore my previous comment about losing volume. I had att. the front by -10 db. for night time listening and forgot. BUT I did make my comparison with both sets of cable at this setting. Cannot really tell if it sounds better becuase of the biwire or the new wire. But there is a little more crispness. But seems I lost something... I removed Monster XP that was like 9 years old. Replaced with (rat-shack) Monster XP that I made into biwire. Any Thoughts? Chris
  9. any new theories in the last 3 months? (runs and hides)
  10. what? ok, now what was that? (you know it's loud when you can't read cause the monitor is shaking so badly)
  11. good luck with your auction. This is def. a steal. If you still have it in a few weeks, i'll take it. I'd love a matching RC7 for my new rf5s! Peace! Merry Xmas!! Chris
  12. I'll post some pics soon. Got my batteries chargin up. I got the beautiful (blonde)maple cabs. Property value just skyrocketed.
  13. Merry Christmas back at ya! I'm in horn heaven. Absolutely marvelous. In a word, perfect. Never shook some much plaster with a single solitary beat, ever. Thanks everyone for making me go with more than what I first wanted. The RF5s fit me well. No way I could fit or use 7s. Peace to all!
  14. yeah, got some rf5s. been searching for mp3s to show them off since.
  15. holy christmas these things rock.
  16. not a bad deal at all. I'd love it.. but I can't buy anything at this time.
  17. What cancer cannot do, because it is so limited. It cannot cripple love, It cannot shatter hope, It cannot corrode faith, It cannot eat away peace, It cannot destroy confidence, It cannot kill friendships, It cannot shut out memories, It cannot silence courage, It cannot invade the soul, It cannot reduce eternal life, It cannot quench the spirit, It cannot lessen the power of resurrection. Why must I bear the pain, I cannot tell, I only know my lord does all things well. And so I trust in God, my all in all, For He will bring me through, whatever I befall. Our greatest enemy is not disease, but despair. My father enjoyed writing in his later years. He fought with cancer this past year. This was one of the last things he wrote. I share it with you, so it may give you hope. Merry X-mas, Chris
  18. schweet.. I can't wait.... is it friday yet?
  19. thanks a lot guys! I've now got a few new cds to listen to this x-mas on my new rf5s.
  20. I'm not using a VC10 or whatever.. I don't like them at all.. I have a "*$itty Bose speaker for my center ch. Don't shoot me. I'm getting a new center.
  21. I got the RF5s from a guy in Michigan. Long story short, they are new/demo units. They were put out, then their boxes were damaged in an act of god. (water damage) Money will first allow the RC7 for a center. I listen to music more than I watch movies right now. Most of the time my center is off anyway. But, I know the RC7 is in my future. To be honest, It's not that I don't really like bose. I've since heard speakers that are what I want to hear (kl.). But, the 701's that I had for apprx. 9 years now, have been beat (used) to death, and never stopped. They would still pass in excellent condition. I plan on moving the bose to the rear or just set them up in another room or sell them, whatever. But they really aren't that bad. At least they never gave me any problems after years and years of serious use. I just want Klipsch now. I'll note that I don't like the other Bose stuff. Just 701/901. The center ch. sucks, and the little boxes aren't that impressive. Happy Waiting Indeed, Chris
  22. Thanks Nick I just purchased them about 20 minutes ago. I'll hopefully have them by friday at latest. Thanks everyone for your advice. FYI: I happily suscribe to getting the "best you can, when you can". I just didn't have room for 7s. That's why I started looking at the F3/sf3, then rf35 and now rf5! And I'd rather spend the extra $ on an amp to run off my HTR-5280. Best Regards, Chris
  23. Just bought some RF5s.. hopefully will have them by tom. or latest friday. Thanks for everyone's help! I'll let you know how I like them! So now that I have these...... any break in period? Or any recommended wiring setup? biwire? Sorry, didn't mention what I have. Yamaha HTR-5280 Bose 701 , hoping to move to rear(?) Bad idea being direct relecting? Yamaha NS-A635A, was using these for rear Bose ****ty center channel, waiting to replace this with RC7 Thanks! Chris
  24. Thank you bill. I was actually getting frustrated by the responses. I was def. going to get a RC7 for my center. Thanks for your help! I completely understand getting the best you can afford. I just can't fit the 7s nor do I want to dish out an extra 400-500 on them. I've had bose 701s for the last 9 years or so; and ever since listening to the klipsch back a few years ago, i've always wanted to upgrade. Now here I am, looking at the F3, then SF3 (less $) then the RF series.. I'm just trying to make an educated purchase. As I don't have any where to listen to these speakers. I know it's the sound I want though (horn). Best Regards, Chris
