The DTS disc are not sold but simply distributed at the CES once a year in January. I would urge you to invest in at least one of these disc to experience the extreme high level of sound and picture.
  2. Over the last few years I have been collecting reference material for my newly completed theater. I discovered the DTS demo dics's that are distributed at the annual CES in Vegas. The picture quality and unbelievable sound really show off the system. I currently have #'s 4,5,6 and 7, there are still #8 and #9 available but I am waiting for a good deal. I also picked up a German version of the THX demo disc floating around and it also allows for DD and DTS formats. Have any of the fellow forum members been into collecting these disc?
  3. I have often been puzzled by the -db as well. It really depends on the system and the room setup I have discovered. In the theater I have the Adcom 7 channel amp and for HDTV -30db is moving some sound, but watching a movie my reference is -20-23db. I dropped it down to -11db on the Asteroid scene from Epi II and it brought the house down. Downstairs the Yamaha stays at -40db and pushes the old KG's just fine. In the end, it is what your ears and system can handle. My 1.5 cents.
  4. Same here, the CC's at one time had a full display wall of SACD's. Imagine my surprise and disappointment that the stores had given up on the format. As we all know, if the product is not moving off of the shelves it is history.

  6. I recently installed the Sony VPLHS51 HD projector. After reading this post I will read further into the fine print to see if I actually have a "true HD projector or simply a wannabe. Thanks Indy
  7. I must be missing something, I purchased Chronicles about a month ago and have yet to break the seal. Now after this thread I will be watching this one tonight.
  8. I saw the Tesla/Firehouse show outdoors around 95' and it was a great show. This was about the time bands in general were doing the "acoustic" set and Tesla pulled it off nicely. As most things do, this brand of music passed into oblivion without so much as a whimper.
  9. Stopped by one of the local CC's last night to pick up my first SACD and lo and behold there was ZERO for selection. The seventeen year old kid working there said he may have heard of a SACD once before but as with the last customer that asked, they could not locate one. My search continues........

Unanimous reviews from friends and critics alike have said you're better off taking a 2.5 hour nap to kill time. ---------------- I read one review where the critic basically said it is "very entertaining for a group of 9 year olds". However, I personally like AA movies and I am hoping for a few chapters of reference material even if the movie turns out to be a bomb. Picked it up and will wait for the premier this weekend to find out for myself.
  11. Waiting to pick up a copy of the DVD today and have a National Treasure premier this weekend in the Northshore Theater. I will post again with my review of the film.
  12. The Adcom pre-amp I have has the center rear speaker hooked up to the LS RS terminals. I went with an Atlantic Tech in ceiling model that accepts both L/R channels and it seems to be working out ok so far.
  13. On a similar note, I have the RF 7's and RC 7 in the Cherry finish which I believe is beautiful. I went with the RW 12 in what Klipsch calls a Cherry finish but as most of you probably know, the color is several shades off. I am ok with the color variation but my "*understanding", "*I love quality sound" "*patient" wife has an issue with the disparity. Has anyone else had this issue or is this variation due to the fact the RW series is not a true Reference product? See * below *Yes, I am one lucky S.O.B.
  14. Tom, as the saying goes... "great minds think alike" Thanks for the information on your project and good luck on the completion, I look forward to seeing more progress photos.
  15. Hey Tom, your room looks very similar to the room I recently completed. The trim work you are doing has been in the back of my mind since day one, could you tell the the height of the trim? I am simply curious of your room dimensions and wall height. Great job on the carpentry so far and please keep us posted. Northshore
  16. Congratulations, once in a while someone renews our faith in the human race even if it was in the form of a customer service person. Enjoy the 9' Diagonal.

I recently put two APC UPS boxes on my PCs and they frequently give me notices about voltage variations and such that I never knew were happening. Nice of the Furman to stop it from reaching your gear. ---------------- Good point, I only have the Furman to monitor line voltage coming in to the house. Downstairs I do have a Monster HT 2500 that seemed normal, I say that I am fortunate that I had the Furman in place. Otherwise, the Northshore Theater is down for the count.
  18. I have a Furman model 15 line conditioner on my recently completed Home Theater. The voltage coming in is always between 122V-124V according to the front panel readout. Two days ago the system operated well as usual and when I went for a movie last night all was not well. The dreaded EXCESSIVE VOLTAGE indicator light was activated and the system was D.O.A. I was able to reset the power switch and all appears well at this time. My concern and question is that after reading the manual I discovered the Excess Volt trigger comes into play after a line surge of at least 137 volts. I can say that the last time I used the system, we had a serious electrical storm, the mystery is that nothing else in the house had been effected. Have any of you folks had this type of experience? is mine a freak phenomenon? should I be concerned about damage to the system? Did we really land on the moon? sorry got off track. Any comments would be appreciated.

  20. view of the front of the theater.
  21. I have posted the progress of my theater project before and here are the latest photo's. I have finished painting all the trim work, installed an equipment light and added the ceiling treatments.
  22. I personally have always been what I consider a Trekee but in recent years I have come to appreciate the Star Wars phenomenon. I really enjoy the special effects of the Epi's I and II as they showcase the 7.1 system that I now have. To answer the question, I will not line up to see the movie but I do have a former IMAX screen theater nearby that I will see it on.
  23. I have been waiting on the Atlantic Technology in-ceiling speaker to arrive for some time now. It finally arrived last week and it is installed, functioning, and I am very pleased with the 6.1/7.1 technology that I have now. I went with this particular model as it accepts both left and right channels from the Adcom. Being a 6.5" size, it pairs well with the RS 35's I have mounted on the walls. The addition of this speaker really has filled in the sound field across the rear of the room and brings out the wonderful effects of Dolby EX.
  24. Here is another shot of the table I added the theater, the previous photos were of a stock photo. This is the table as it appears in my theater.
  25. I have been studying the effects of digital and non-digital sources as it applies to a projected image. As with DVD and HDTV signals, the images are near flawless to the naked eye. However, non-digital signals have many flaws or Mosquito's which distort the image projected. I notice this more now that I have a larger display and less on a smaller screen which compresses the image. Enter the Algolith company solution to this annoyance, the Mosquito which cleans up and compresses the digital signal to provide near HD quality images from non-digital signals. This is the first component piece I have seen that does this type of magic, are there others? and if so, could you folks share your experiences? This particular Algolith piece is promoted as "for the serious Theater enthusiast" and with this type of promotion comes the hefty price tag of $4500. (which is more than I paid for the Sony projector).
