  1. I can vouch for deciblelvr. He sold me an academy and it was just as he said. I put it in my system and it worked great. Good price and a good transaction. Thanks Keith
  2. Thanks steeler fan. I was looking for some other brands that might be in the same ball park. I'll check it out.
  3. OK who got the chorus II's in chicago off E-Bay even before I could bid on them. They were there last night and gone this morning? If you got them congrats and hope you enjoy them.
  4. I'm ready to get a sub for my HT. Here's what I have; Forte II's front and rear, academy center. Sony DA555ES (100 watt/ch) Room: T shaped with the fronts and TV at bottom of T. viewing area opening into the top off T with rears at the top. Viewing area 13 wide 20 deep. Ceiling 7 foot 1/2 by tv drywall other 1/2 acustic tile. all carpet walls drywall top of T 35 feet long. Listening 50/50 would really like a little more punch with music and also like the theater feel with the movie and the volume up. I don't need to remove the mortar from my foundation. I've been watching to snag a RSW 12 or 15 on E-bay(usually out of my price range of 500 to 800) Could stretch price for a real deal. Can you trust buying used for subs? I have bought used speakers and haven't had any problems. I also looked at SVS PC 20-39 both plain and plus and a PB 12 box. I think I would like the looks of a box better. I've even considered the Dayton DIY 15 (Muege) but is it musical enough and would it overpower my fortes. Is the RSW 15 too large? Can a sub be too LARGE? What does Velodyne have around this application. The LF10 are they still around? Do you think a RW 12 would work for me or would I just want to upgrade? All responses will be appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
  5. Great looking belles. Glad to hear you got them working. Even the dog is oak colored. Your Forte II's sound good and thanks. Keith
  6. The Hank Williams Story (it may have been called "Your Cheatin Heart") DVD of my daughter playing "Annie" at the local dinner theater Mary Poppins Ferry Cross the Mercy WoodStock
  7. Do you use wall plates with the connectors or do you run the wire continous to the speaker. If you run the in-wall speaker wire directly to the speaker you eliminate a connection, but is there an aesthetically elegant way to do this? Also is there any advantage using wire ends at the receiver or speakers if the braided strands fit the terminals anyway? I'm using 12 gauge speaker wire from Lowes and I haven't had anyproblems connecting it directly to my receiver and speaker terminals. Thanks Keith
  8. I would like to say that Richard sold me his forte II's on his trip. I would like to thank him for excellent speakers and a easy transaction. I set them up with my forte II's for fronts with an academy center and tried them out with Lord of the Rings volume 2. They sounded great. Thanks again Richard for a nice set of speakers and a good price. I know this should be on the HT forum but I saw this thread and wanted to let Richard know. I have bought my academy and these speakers through the forum and have been happy with both purchases. thanks again Keith PS hope you get those belles working and let us know the result.
  9. Has anyone came up with an economical way to connect your PC to your receiver. I've rip a lot of my CD's to my hard drive and would like to play them over my sound system instead of the computer speakers. My PC is hardwired to a network and I have network conections at my receiver location. For now I'm using my TIVO series 2 wich will play them but this is analog. I'm loosing some sound quality this way. Also I would be able to make playlist on my computer to play in radom order which would be nice. I've read some methods but the computer output dosen't matchup with the receiver inputs.
  10. Richie, would you be traveling through the Quad Cities on the way to Chicago. Up 35 and across 80. If you could bring the forte II's with you I might be interested. Email me or PM me.
  11. Will Cornwall II's work for fronts with an academy center and then use my forte II's for rears. Would this be overkill? My room is T shaped with the leg part of the T as the watching area. The watching area is about 14 wide 21 long. The top of the T is actually longer about 13 deep and 30 feet long. This is in my bassement and had to woork around supports. I've also been looking at Forte II's, Chorus II's and Quartets. I see on the Klipsch sight that all of these speakers will match with the academy. So if a = b and b = c does a = c? Any input will be appreciated. I'm running a Sony DA555 ES 5.1 as receiver. (Its about 100 watt per channel receiver)
  12. Just got home last night after being out of town for a week and my new academy was waiting for me. Looked as good and sounds as gooood as Deciblelvr said it would. Thanks a great transaction. Now do I need Cornwall II's, Chorus II's, Forte II's or quartets to go with my academy and forte II's. Keeping my eyes open.
  13. Yes my BS meter started twitching when I read that 90 yr grandmother crap. She only only listen to them on sundays after church.
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39783&item=5753535791&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW This single has been on Ebay for a while
  15. I e-mailed the seller and he said they are definitely fortes not forte II's. The pictures looked great. Cabinets loooked in great shape. If you want fortes they look like a definite buy.
  16. Thanks for the replies. John that sub looks great. I think I might just leave it black and slide it back on the shelf farther. Nobody will see the sides that much anyway. As far as getting the black out I've seen it done with bleach. But that was on solid wood and not veneer. (This was done on a dark oak table and bleached blonde. In the early sixties. The table was then refinished back to natural oak ten years later and still looks good.) The problem with bleach is that it breaks down the wood fibers. On veneer this may break it apart and cause cracking.
  17. I have refinished furniture and trim around my house. How hard is it to change and black oak spaeker to oiled oak or something close. Hope this isn't the wrong forum for this question. If it is let me know. Thanks a newbie without much computer smarts
  18. If staged2 doesn't want it I might be interested. Do you have a picture. Thanks
  19. I have been lurking around here for a couple of weeks and this is my first post. I'm looking at some quartets to go with my forte II for HT. Then if I'm lucky enough some day I can up grade the quart's to more forte II's or some Chorus II's and convert one of the quartets to a center. Kind of a poor man's academy. (heaven forbid I find a good priced academy some day.) If you lay the quartet's on their side do they need to be at ear level or won't I notice. Also using them as rears if I hung them horizontal close to the ceiling would I loose the dispersion on the horns or tweeters. I know that they need 12 inches behind for the radiators. I am also aware of the sheilding problem. Thanks for any and all replies. The information on these forums has been great. (Dreaming of some good priced OO forte II's Or Chorus II's)
