Would still like an answer as to whether or not the forte's would match heresey for rears and center or would i need just forte's ? ---------------- I don't know anything about HT but I'll bet that four Fortes with an Academy center would sound incredible. Sub? Probably wouldn't even need a stinkin sub.
  2. I'll second that sentiment regarding Rick.
  3. How often does a car like this show up out of nowhere? Wouldn't something this precious have been in a few prestigious car shows, especially if the owner had plans to sell it? For $425,000, I would have offered up some sort of verifiable confirmation regarding the original status of the car - at least some sort of third party inspection report. The fit and finish looks medicore enough to be original.
  4. Thanks for all the suggestions. Gimme more! I just got back from Denver with my speakers. I've been checking them out using alot of the recommendations - I had to go out and buy some of them. This worked out well - I picked up some great music. I'm going back through this thread and making a new shopping list. Thanks for the operatic suggestions too - I have very little of that and all I really know of opera music is what I've seen on Bugs Bunny cartoons. I am selfishly bringing this thread back to the top to fish for some more suggestions. Like someone said the genre isn't that important - just looking for more well recorded, detailed, and dynamic music that show off the fine points of the speakers. Here are a couple more from my collection that are good reference material and great music. "Absolute Sound" - Hearts of Space (various artists). They describe the soundstage and what you should hear for each selection. "Moroccan Spirit" - Higher Octave Music
  5. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll be picking some of those. Any more music that would bring out all the best from the Cornwalls? Rick, I'm glad the stuff got there alright and thanks for putting that music selection together. Scriven, tropical Montana is only a state of mind but I live in Bozeman. That's Bozeman with a "z" not an "s". Thanks again.
  6. Thanks to a hot tip provided by Rick Thumpelstiltskin, I have just acquired a nice pair of Cornwalls. I moved my schedule around so I can pick them up next week in Denver. I can't wait to get em home and try em out. I did a search in the forum for "reference music" and other possible thread titles, but nothing really came up. I would appreciate any suggestions on some good music to play to try out my new speakers. Something that really gives them a workout and makes them sweat. Suggestions on quiet and delicate music would also be appreciated. Thanks. To really "exercise" my Fortes I've used the following: The Underture from Tommy (last track side II), Speedway at Nazereth - Mark Knopfler, Money for Nothing - Dire Straits, Jammin & Buffalo Soldier - Bob Marley, DSOTM & The Wall - Pink Floyd, Various Enya (to really rattle the house), and An old London recording of Peer Gynt (supposedly using the worlds largest bass drum).
  7. What is that? At first, I thought Sunbeam Alpine. Now I'm thinking Cortina.
  8. Does the long shift linkage give you fits?

  10. The Yukon is for perfect for our field work. It has strong low range grunt and an amazingly tight turn radius. It's very hard to find just a basic work rig that isn't a plushed out grocery getter. I don't even know if you can still get a manual transmision in one and forget about locking hubs. Still, I love the ones we have for work. Here is a work vehicle we used in the Russian arctic. It was called a "vistahad" or something that sounded like that. They were noisy, cold, harsh riding, they stank of fuel, and broke down alot. But they did have a certain charm - they looked cool, they were also very fast and fun over the snow, and they were simple to repair on the fly. Lets see more pics.

  12. I saw both of those Munsters cars at a car show in Denver when I was a kid. Dragula, the one made out of a coffin, was the coolest car I had ever seen - I didn't want to leave.
  13. Welcome Jimmy James. I liked your name so much, I Googled it. There was a Jimmy James who was a captured RAF officer and who was part of the actual Great Escape during WW II. There was Jamaica Jimmy James & the Vagabonds - a sixties soul group. There is a Quebec jazz guitarist named Jimmy James. Then there is this Jimmy James, oooops , who I'm sure is NOT you.

A 350 cc bike also known as the Triumph 21. A very rare beast in this o****ry not only because of age, but because they were never exported to these shores. Not running at the moment, meant to resleeve the barrel this winter, but got to busy with stereo stuff. ---------------- It's a twin of course.

And you still have a wife. Any pics of any of those? BSA, Parts of that racer look familiar. Was that a 650 Yamaha?
  16. Seems like there are alot of motor-heads here. I did a quick search and, while motorized transportation is a popular topic, it doesn't look like there has been a motor show here on the forum. It would be interesting to see what people here ride or drive. Also, what was your all time favorite? Here's my humble entry. I recently finished restoring my old 1972 Honda CB350. I know it's not as macho as other bikes, but it was one of the most popular motorcycles ever. It's all I need around town and on the back roads. It was my first love in high school and is now a genuine time machine for me. What's in your garage?

  18. Found the other thread in 2 channel - didn't find it the first time through. Sorry about that . It was hard to believe this could've slipped by un-noticed.
  19. From a recent auction on eBay. I didn't see any posts about this one. What would this sound like?
  20. ---------------- On 5/17/2005 3:00:23 PM Corvette6769 wrote: Okay I am keep of hearing about verticals in reference to Cornwalls. Would someone be so kind as to explain to me what "verticals" are and how the differ from the regular Cornwall and/or Cornwall II. ---------------- They had vertically oriented tweeter and mid horns with an offset woofer cone. Check out this thread. Lots of discussion on the vertical Cornwall.

  22. I like the text they chose to use (plagiarize) for the sale: "the Klipschorn¨'s detailed appointments and precisely matched, handcrafted wood grains reflect a level of high-quality workmanship that will never go out of style"
  23. Literally, a fire trap. It's probably just a question of when. I hope that she doesn't start collecting cigarette lighters.
  24. Just a quick footnote. My brother picked up the Cornwalls Saturday morning. He said they were 10/10 cosmetically. He is a critical, detail oriented, perfectionist and he could not find any flaws. He took them home, hooked them up, and was so impressed that he listened to them until 1:30 in the morning and then through the next day. I might change my work schedule to get down to Denver next week just so that they don't grow roots in his livingroom. I might have to give him my Fortes. When Thumplestiltskin posts, all should listen. Rick, thanks for posting these ads. It seems like it could be frustrating for you from time to time but I'm sure everyone appreciates what you do (especially me). I just have one question for you. Do you think that you would look better in the blue short sleeve polo shirt or the rugby shirt avaiable at this fine boutique? Send me a PM and let me know which one, the size, and the shipping address.
