On the original Cornwall test pair Looks like there's a fabric of some sort covering the bass ports from the inside? Could be adding to the "muddy" bass response? Just a thought.. BS

www.stereoknight.com I can fully recommend Very, very good stuff. Bought the integrated today, now I'm peeking at the Pre-amp. Built like a proverbial tank, all of it... BS

I agree 100% Nothing scientific here or objective, but I tried (two times) two ss pre's with two Push/pull tube amps and hated it, both times. Im not sure if it was an impedance mismatch or what. The opposite, for me, occured with the Tube pre and SS amps, every time. The amp adds a little signature and the pre-a lot of signature. Most people that I've discussed this with agree that it's about a 70/30 sound signature split between a pre and an amp. No offense to those in the other crowd: so don't hate on me... Ask Mark Deneen, there's probably a reason he made pre-amps before his amps, but that could be speculation, as well. And if you have a variable out on your CD player: hook it up straight to your amp. It'll make you wonder, a bit. At times, this sounded the best to me.

I might do that. Can you make 'em look like they came from the factory? BS -
RB-5's Why doesn't this sound good?

Seems like they lost quite a bit of efficiency, as well. Boy they sound like garbage in there. They sounded so, so much better upstairs on top of the Cornwalls. BS Button -

I think the name/s have worn off. They are about 15 years old. -
At least look at the front two channels, anyway...

What would it sound like? Muddy, no air...heck, no cymbals. It'd sound like a CD horn without the compensation Oh

His name is Andrew Vanderkruk. If someone is interested in contacting him, just email me. I've met with him and heard his horns and also some pretty interesting systems he's built. I have a pair of his Bentwood horns, but I haven't hooked them up yet! Just no time. I've got a pair of JBL drivers for them too. Andrew claims that, on axis, these horns will cover the high end. He likes the TAD drivers, I can't remember the model number right now. Greg Thanks Greg...that's correct. I couldn't remember his name. Looks like good work, as well.

There are some 2" throat horns that I guy hand makes in Canada. He's on Ebay all the time. Oh, but they are exponential...drats. Prolly won't work with 2 electronic crossovers and 12 amplifiers; they'd prolly sound terrible. I still don't understand about all this EQ stuff and don't really care. I heard passives on 402 Jub's at Rigma's. Also, you wouldn't get to debate about whether or not a passive can be used: why? because it could. And, it would be a nice simple two way crossover. Costs lots less, too. Use these horns, get some JBL 2" drivers, the Jubilee bass bins, and a simple crossover and then tell me it doesn't sound good.

Tube Magic Canada, first version of their 300B monoblocks, using 1 EL34 per channel for some wattage boost... with a CJ pre on top for size comparison. 1- 6sn7 1- 5Z3

Michael, You're prolly right, but I have noticed the older Oil speakers get dark, darker and the lacquer, get light, lighter. I was hoping for a Lacquer answer as I'd like to convert my Corns to Oil from Lacquer.
-
The label would tell you if it's oil or Lacquer. HWL Or HWO?
-
Thanks, Was it previously an oil or lacquer finish? BS[bs]
