No. I did not get the manuals. Can you please try to send them again? Thanks. I have a couple days at home now and will try to get things set up. I will post the results. So far it is just nice to listen to them where they are.

  3. thanks, all. one of the corners of the room i propose to put these in has a baseboard forced water heat unit. it rises about 6 - 8 inches above the floor. in order to fit snuggly i would have to raise the speaker that high, and the one in the other corner as well, though only one corner has the heater. i wouldn't think this would present a problem with sound reproduction, would anyone. I can construct the platform without issue.
  4. I know that Klipschorns need to be in the corner of the room, but how far from the walls can they be placed? Is there a range such as from 3 inches to 12 inches? Thanks, I didn't get a users manual or anything, bought them used and the owner didn't know.
  5. If you had about $1500 to $2000 to spend on an integrated or pre/amp combo to drive a 1966 set of Klipschorns with type A crossover (probably listening to a Marantz 38 CD player), what woould you buy, new or used? Thanks.
  6. I did a search on "chart" but didn't find the one that matched serial numbers to dates of manufacture. These speakers have a stain like finish, it is pretty worn out and there is some water damage on top of one (used as a plant stand!). When I make time i will have to strip them and refinish. They have cane grills and appear original, as far as I can tell. I'll get the digital camera out and upload some pics.
  7. thank you. how did you come to that manufactur date via the serial #. I will have to take off the side panel and look at the woofer to find out if I won the prize. The crossover is type A. I am anticipating these may be candidates for an ALK (maybe, someday).
  8. Can someone help me decode the following model number and serial number for a set of Klipschorns? Model: K. C. M. R. Serial: 2E437 Thanks.
  9. I noticed that PAS-4 and had to wonder about it, couldn't find anything on it from various Dynaco web links, until I came across this statement: "Panor, Inc., an unrelated company, later bought the rights to use the Dynaco name, and introduced an updated Stereo 70 and PAS preamp." This could be the PAS-4 unit on AudioGon. It is very clean and has the phone input.

That is kind of the whole idea of this question, I need to replace my amp now! I have given some thought to the juicy line but it is just too much at this stage, pretty though. thanks.
  11. Probably because of your age? When was the last time anyone went into a record store, instead of a CD store?
  12. I just can't buy the "monster" cable thing yet. I admit, I haven't tried it, and I am looking forward to some comparative listening so I can hear the difference with various speaker cables. But in this particular application, why not just wire directly to the posts on the amp? I use the logic of old SCSI computer devices: the more connections the more interference. Does it apply here, also?
  13. boys, boys boys. I go to pick up my horns tomorrow and I only feel slightly closer to getting my amp. Now my waters are muddier than before, the more I look the more I entertain additional choices. I want to be able to play my turntable, so I need a phone stage, and I would rather have built in, but have looked at the ASL and the Gram Slee phono amps, could see adding them into the mix if I decide to buy a newer version integrated, such as the JoLida or ASL. I'm starting to think I am going to have two amps eventually, one "old world" integrated such as a Scott, Dynaco, EICO or Fisher, and some type of pre/amp or even mono blocks. Who knows? My music is about half CD, half LP, but all future acquisitions will, no doubt, be CDs, so I have purchased a new CD player - truly unrelated to this topic, except in considering the inputs on current amps. So now I am looking for opinions, other than those already posted, not that I don't appreciate the constructive words of wisdom, I do. I feel certain that the recommendations posted would certainly fill the bill. I have only continued to search for the same reason I went ahead and bought my horns. I already know, just by the quantum leap in pleasure I experienced upgrading my Hereseys to Cornwalls, that I am going to really have a very good time with tubes, and I want to be sure I make the right purchase, in as much as anyone can. Also, I can go $1000 - my original post I said $500. Everything is negotiable, and I didn't know then what you can get and for how much. So thanks to all thus far and if anyone has thoughts about tubing with pre, main split vs integrated and the joys to be had in listening to a truly vintage integrated tube amp, I am curious. Especially if someone has a JoLida or ASL or Dyanaco product, weigh in please.
  14. If you don't buy them, I will. Hey, where are they, anyway? Can one ever have too many Klipschs? Let us know about getting the grills redone, I have a set of Cornwalls that need it. Mucho grasso.
  15. You are your brother's keeper. They look sweet, but I like the natural wood color better. To each his own, but those are a couple of good looking horses mouths.
  16. Wonder if Klipsch will mind? Should include location in case shipping costs are a factor.
  17. Would a Scott integrated perform well with a set of mono blocks? I am starting to think about getting one of the vintage integrated amps and trying to use it as a pre for a pair of mono blocks, either bottleheads or the ASL. Will this work or is the architecture prohibitive to using and integrated amp as a pre?
  18. I thought this was rather illuminating reading. http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm "It all sounds the same provided the resistance is low enough." -Roger Russell
  19. It's a beautiful thing. Gotta brood a while.
  20. I am hoping that there are some opinions as to which of these amps would perform best with Corns. I have narrowed my search down to these two choices, for now. Thanks to those who haven't got anything else to do on this rainy day.
  21. This kind of question could be too broad but, I gotta start somewhere. I am going to buy a tube amp, probably an integrated for starters, but I am really longing to go all the way into it at some point with components; pre-amp/amp, pre- and mono blocks, who knows. For now I am shopping audiogon and ebay for a Scott or EICO or something along those lines. My budget for these is about $500. What I am looking for is some steers to other makes when I decide to leap over the ledge and get something like bottlehead, decware, ASL or Bez (btw, who manufactures Bez?). I am driving a set of Cornwalls and planning to obtain Horns for a larger listening room. Also, I am only interested in 2 channel, I have tried the surround effect and did not care for it, and I do not have a home theatre. Thanks for any assistance.
