  1. Muchas Gracias for the info. I will explore these options as I get my short list together. Again, appreciate the help.
  2. Hey, looking for a good source for CD purchase online. I have used Bull Moose music in the past but more because I lived up in the north east and there were even brick and mortar stores. i am almost solely harnessed to internet buying now so what is a good source. just for info, my tastes are of the late sixties and seventies mostly, rock and pop, looking to fill out my missing stuff from getting rid of LPs and no longer having those college buds next door to borrow from. for example, I was trying to find the YES album close to the edge and it was kind of like road signs up in New Hampshire. Thanks in advance.
  3. Unfortunately flat wire won't help because I am working with a hard wood floor. Not enough rug to cover the entire run across the room. But thanks. I am going to get some 16 or 12 gauge and work it down and under by the baseboards and the hot water pipes. Either that or I am going to put the speakers somewhere else, I guess. The room is rectangular 13 by 25 and, unfortunately, no way to get momma to put the system on the short wall. Man, those Cornwalls sound so good, even with the 18 gauge snaked across the floor now.
  4. Cool. Thanks, I think I am clear to go for it.
  5. I could probably get as many opinions on this as there are members of this forum but am hoping there is some type of consensus. Is there a maximum length for a particular gauge of speaker wire. I need to place my cornwalls across the room from my amps, perhaps 12 to 15 feet away, but the wire must run under the floor through the basement and so will be more like 25 feet long. Would someone please weigh in with words of wisdom before I start drilling holes in the floor. Thanks.
  6. Maybe I should start a pawn shop in my basement?
  7. Yea, seemed like they didn't really want to win. Dallas just outplayed them whenever it mattered most.
  8. shrinkwrap might work, or try investing them, all my investments grow smaller over time.
  9. The debate over placement will always rage as everyone has their own opinion. One thing I don't thing anyone will disagree with is either of these models will sound great in any situation, almost. With the right amp and source, the cornwall are such a pleasure to listen to and even placed far from a corner, the klipschorn just sounds so fine. Everything beyond that is fine tuning, turning happy into glad. Just don't buy both the klipschorns and the cornwalls or you may never be able to decide which you like best. You will be like a mouse looking for cheese in the corner of a round room. (But you will be listening to the finest speakers ever made while you run around in circles).
  10. According to the man hisself, false corners only need extend as high as the korns themselves and four linear feet out from the corner. gotta like that word "linear"
  11. Both these amps are in unrestored condition. For sale as is, they need to be gone over and completely restored. The Scott face looks great but the insides are dirty and dusty and it looks as if it came out of someone's attic. Again, the face looks really nice, all knobs there and no scratches. The EICO works, has all tubes and it looks in great shape, but after about 15 minutes playing it starts to act up. WOW. Shut it off and get it fixed. I will send anyone interested some photos, but won't bother posting here. If you want a project to DIY or send off for serious work, these are great candidates. That is why I bought them, but now I am not interested in expanding in this direction further. Price? Asking ain't gettin' so make an offer. I would guess either to be worth aroung two bills, the EICO maybe more because the tubes are all good and it is clean inside and out.
  12. If you want something with phono and that many inputs and you won't have to upgrade (or send it in for repair), think about a new juicymusic. I have the blueberry extreme and am very happy. I believe they are well represented by forum members who seem happy with their choice. My second choice would be a bottlehead foreplay, but you would need a separate phono stage.
  13. I recently wandered across a cool DIYer's web site with some good information. http://boozhoundlabs.com/ The guy is a little nuts but looking at his site is free.
  14. Could be the recording, some present better sound stage and separation and such things better than others. Anyway, with light weight and easy to place Hereseys, move them around, have a few beverages and see what you like best.

  16. WOW! That photo looks good enough to be from some stock photo off a web site or something. That is the nicest amp I have ever seen. Looks new!
  17. Only 50 LPs? Then hook up to a receiver or amp, unless yours doesn't have a phono input. Otherwise, I can't think of your getting a decent phono pre for $50. You might look at the goodwill or salvation army stores for used equiptment that would have a phono stage in the $50 range!

  19. One method, I haven't used it yet but am thinking about it, would be to agree to sell something each time you buy something. This would be like upgrading, and your accumulation would not get larger each time you give in to the temptation. Another technique is running out of rooms to place your equiptment. But then youmight be tempted to buy a larger place to live with more rooms. Will power is just sooooo painful.
  20. I have mine placed in a room with similare dimensions and they sound great, of course, they sounded great before I put them there. They sound great anywhere. Along the long wall would be best, I think.
  21. One reason I did not mind placing my listening room in the basement. I have not had the pleasure of a winter with it yet, but I imagine space heaters are quieter than fans and AC units. Winter will be upon us too soon.
  22. If you want to experience the tube stereo sound on the cheap, the best way is a reworked Scott, Fischer, or HK receiver or integrated amp. Be aware, however, if you buy on ebay or audiogon, whatever you purchase may need to be gone over by a trusted tech (Craig, of NOSValves, is well regarded on these forums). So, although your ebay jewel may only run you a couple hundred, you may end up spending several hundred more getting it in good working condition. Believe me, I know this from experience. You might email Craig, he also has a web site, sometimes he has units for sale that he guarentees.
  23. not quite directly in front, but I think you get the idea of the sizes.
