  1. Call the Klipsch parts department.
  2. Audio CDs take less than 10 seconds to cue up and play from the time the tray is closed, that's a nice improvement over almost any other DVD player I've had before.
  3. No, it uses a different chip from Microtek (I think??). I played a CD in the oppo this morning for a couple hours while i was gone. Now that I'm home and listening to it, the highs seem clearer than they did in the 981. Everything about the audio is at least as good if not better than the 981. I can't comment on SACD or DVD-Audio but so far audio CDs sound very good. I already sold my 981 to a member on here so I don't have them to do an exact A/B comparison but I listen to my CDs enough to know if there's any difference in sound. The oppo also does have a button that disables all video circuitry so that the audio signal doesn't receive any possible interference from it.
  4. After doing some research on oppo's site and various other audio sites I came to the conclusion that their DV-981HD player might not be the best for my TV. I have a JVC HD-56FN97 tv that utilizes LCoS (Liquid crystal on silicon) technology. Apparently the Faroudja chipset in the 981 player doesn't mate up well with the JVC's internal processing. So, to my surprise I noticed the other day that oppo was releasing a new player, the DV-980H. I received it at home today and hooked it up. First DVD was Shrek 2. Calibrated everything that needed to be and set the upconverting resolution to 1080p to match my TV's native resolution. WOW WOW WOW! The picture looked twice as sharp as it did with the 981. Both players were hooked up via the supplied HDMI cable. The player is supposed to have an upgraded audio section and I believe it. I only listened to one audio CD so far and it sounded great. (I'm using the player's L+R rca outputs). I have the weekend off of work so I think I'll be having a little fun! The 980 is nice in that it has both component and HDMI outputs, although it will only upscale through the HDMI output. It will play virtually any audio or video disc format as well. I'd love to get my hands on some DVD-Audio discs to see how they sound. My wife commented that even she could see the difference in picture quality. That's saying something!
  5. 1) If your TV is 720p native resolution, set the upconversion resolution also to 720p, progressive. 2) 80Hz is a good place to set your crossover.
  6. I think the link to that eBay auction has been posted on every website I belong to now! It is hilarious and definitely worth reading the Q&A section!
  7. Congrats on the purchase! I've owned Klipsch speakers for about 14 years starting with a 'lowly' KV-1 center channel. Its been a fun ride!
  8. Oldbuckster, I wouldn't ever spend $1500 on a vintage pair of Heresys, but would you rather spend $50k on a new Corvette or $50k on a Vette from the 60s?
  9. Regarding the RF-5: "Using the same Tractrix Horn as the RF-7, the RF-5 has outside the box imaging and smooth midrange tonal balance for an incredible soundstage. A dual flared port helps deliver deep, authoritative bass without noise and compression. Audiophile-grade crossover components ensure peak performance across the entire sound spectrum, while a unique venting system keeps the drivers motor and voice coil cool for superior reliability."
  10. You know that the toothbrush was invented in Arkansas...other wise it would have been called a teethbrush. So the above story now tells that cousins can marry right from the womb?
  11. Make sure you have your receiver's crossover settings set correctly. Things to make sure of: - Turn the gain control on your subwoofer as high as it can go and then use your receiver's sub out volume to control the loudness of the sound coming from the subwoofer. - Turn the crossover on your subwoofer as high as it can go and then use your receiver to adjust the cutoff point of the sub, usually 80Hz is a good place to start.
  12. Right before the big drop I stuck 50% of my 401(k) in cash and divided the other 50% by putting 5% in each of 10 different fund families. As of close of business on Thursday I lost approximately 5% of my money. I didn't think that was too bad.
  13. 3 people including myself answered in your other post. Just making sure, you don't have the high level and low level inputs attached to the sub, do you?
  14. I think that many people will discourage you from using two speakers as center channels. I've read several arguments against it on here and on other audio forums. The front mains should be toed in towards the main seating position. Some people like them toed in at a more extreme angle than others. For that setup you do have to go with what sounds best to you. Corner-loading a speaker or a sub will increase its bass output but sometimes will make the bass not as tight sounding. Again, start close to the wall and move them a little until you like how they sound. Have you always had the KSW-12 with the LaScalas? I don't know a lot about that sub, but I know that many newer subs will probably be a better match to your setup. All that being said, my advice, (for what its worth []) would be: Sell one of the Heresys and only use 1 for a center channel, sell the KSW-12, sell the little 8 inch sub, and use the money to buy something like a Sub-12. I'd imagine you could get around $500 altogether for those components, and there are several subs in that price range that will really impress you.
  15. After doing some careful research I believe that oppo's newest player, the DV-980H will be a better match for my TV than the DV-981HD I'm currently using. I've owned the DVD player since February '07 and it is in mint condition. I have every accessory it came with: Box, manual, HDMI cable, remote. The player sells for $229 + shipping from oppo, I'll sell it for $169 + $11 shipping = $180.00. PayPal would be great.
  16. In my signature you'll see that I'm using a Sonic Impact T-amp for my main amp. Try googling or Yahooing 'Sonic Impact T-amp' and see the specs on it. Last night I was listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan so loudly I thought the neighbors might complain. 40wpc isn't enough to make the Fortes sound good, its enough to make them sound freakin' awesome as long as the amplification is of good quality.
  17. Does anyone know of any CD players with their own volume control? I know an older cheap Denon player that I had featured it but I didn't like the sound at all. Reason why I'm asking is I'm bypassing the H/K as a pre-amp and running a signal straight into the Sonic Impact T-amp, finding a much cleaner sound as a result. I'm currently using my oppo DVD player as CD player. I'm probably looking to spend no more than $200 and will be using the analog output of whichever CD player I buy.
  18. More than likely the problem is in the setup of the receiver. Make sure you have the subwoofer selected 'On' in your receiver's menu. Also make sure that you have the speakers set correctly, something like Large+Sub or Small+Sub. I'm not too terribly familiar with modern receivers but there are many, many options that can be turned on or off that will affect the subwoofer signal.
  19. Are those Cerwin-Vega woofers?? Also, he's selling an envelope from Sony dated 1972. If things like that are collectible I'm going to raid my parent's house and make a mint!
  20. Spill the beans on the $$ you paid! I have my friend's KLF-30s and my Forte IIs and I prefer the Forte II sound. They've been the best all-around Klipsch speaker I've ever owned, including RF-25s and RF-7s.
  21. KV series probably isn't going to match well with the Reference series. Can you get by without a center channel for now? Otherwise something smaller in the Reference series such as the RC25, RC10, etc will be a closer match than the KV.
