  1. I watch this channel all the time. My fav are the concerts (the Roots, Bruce Hornsby, Sarah Mc.., Norah Jones) and the IMAX movies. There is one with Mario Andretti (sp) racing indy cars and The Living Sea. That one is great. Sting does the music for it. I wish I could find an IMAX playing that one. I have not caught the new programming. Looks interesting.
  2. keep checking eslay. I purchased mine on there a yr. ago for @400. I see them go for even cheaper. I see the maple rb 5 on there from time to time. JD
  3. I have purchased several of the RCA/component cables and the optical (tos link). I purchased most off ebay at reasonable prices. If you have a tweeter in your area check them out. They supposedly dropped the monster products so they are now selling "at a discounted price." I like them okay. I have only used monster and the real cheapo stuff that comes w/ the equipment. The connectors about rip my rca jacks out of my denon receiver though. Man do they fit snug. I love the tos link. It is spring loaded and the connector moves around the cable itself, so when connecting you don't have to twist the cable. I have not used any of their speaker cable. Satchmo
  4. Man do I feel your pain. I painted 4 inwall and 2 inceiling grills. It is not easy. First let me tell you that on two of my grills, I took out the fabric. The speakers are in a spot that gets decent lighting and I don't see that much of the copper color cone. I do not know what function they serve. Perhaps vibration dampening? To paint these puppies you need to goto your paint store or home depot/lowes. There is a special spray paint apperatus that they sell. It is like one of those "compressed air guns/spayers" that cleans your electronics, keyboards, etc. On the bottom of the spray gun is either a plasic or glass jar. There is a tube that sucks the paint thru the sprayer. I used two different types. The best one (also the cheapest) had the glass jar that screwed onto the bottom and the spray can looked like a butane refiller (tall and skinny). The other kind the spray can and the plastic container were side by side. It came with 3 differnt nozzels with differnt sizes. The later of the two was much more difficult to use. Okay, now the hard part. The guy at the paint store said the paint had to be dilluted with water until it was the consistancy of milk. Well, all can say in order for it to cosistanly come thru the sprayer it had to be much thinner than milk.Practice on some cardboard until you get the desired results. Don't be aftaid of going too thin. Another reason to get the cheaper of the two sprayers. You will need at least 2 refill cans for 4 grills. I took string and metal safety pins to string the grills across my garage door frame and went to town. I took out the grill cloth. It comes out and resticks with a little work. If you have any more questions pm me. Good luck.
  5. Thank you VERY much. I was beginning to wonder if anyone would respond. Please let me know how you like them and how they sound, etc. I am considering them for side surrounds on my soon to be 7.1 set up. I have restrictions on wall space, due to room lay out. These new adjustable in ceiling's sound like a potenial solution. How are you useing them? If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? MSRP (from the klipsch web site)?
  6. Great topic. Not enough music is available. To me, that makes what is out there even better. I even tend to listen to music I would not ordinarily listen to/buy, just to experience the 5.1 sound. I recommend Steely Dan's Gaucho, John Hiatt master of disaster, beck's Guero is really unique. There seems to be a good deal of uncertainty for this format's future.
  7. Are the new CDT models available yet? Where would one be able to purchase those? There is very little info online and I do not have a local Klipsch dealer. THks.
  8. You are not alone. I am considering the RSX-4/5's for my side surrounds in a 5.1/7.1 and have been wondering the same thing. I need to mount mine at the top of a wall due to a window box on one side and a door frame on the other. The spec's on the website do not elaborate on the pivoting flexibility of the RSX series. I need to mount on a wall and angle the speakers down and back. Due to room lay-out they will be positioned about 1 foot infront of the ideal listening position. So, after reading your email, I assume that the RSX series in not an option for me? FWIW, if size/footprint is your concern you may want to opt for the RB-10 or RB-15. I believe they have the key hole mounting option. The only thing I do't like about that option is the mounting brackets available (ie. omnimount brand) are darn expensive. Can anyone tell us if the RSX can work with the omnimount brackets (ie. can you unswrew or take off the old mounting bracket and retrofit the omnimount)?
  9. I think Russound sells home units for XM and Serious. I have sirius for my car (add on unit, XACT model). I love it. As others have already mentioned, sound is iffy sometimes. The true diff. between XM and Sirius is programming. I like a variety of music and that's what sirius provides. They have one channel, disorder, that is great (basically they play everything). . I just don't know how long they will be around. Seems as if XM dominates the home and car market. Just my .02 JD
  10. I have the rsw-5's as rears and love them. Yes the are paintable. WHen you paint them goto homedepot and get one of those spray devices (about 3 bucks and 2 more for the "air can" refil) used when using paint from a bucket (as apposed to a spray can). Mix that stuff slightly thinner than milk. It took me a while to get it right. Just keep thinning with water, thinner, etc. Also, try to use newer paint. Older stuff seems to clump a bit. Good luck. JD
  11. I am not 100% sure about this, but I believe Sanus has stands that work for the RSX. I purchased a pair on ebay for about 30 bucks new. They were adjustable for height and came with about half a dozed of mounting options. THere were specific brackets for klipsch. Go to sanus.com and check it out. ebay has tons of sanus speaker stands for affordable prices.
  12. immax, I have considered the gallo's as well. I am also wanting a clean look (hence rear in walls), so the gallos would be asthetically perfect. Did you consider the rsx series. for our config that seems to be the "best" option. I have also considered the rsx center channel speaker as well. It is just hard to find them. pls let me know how you like the gallos ASAP. I am getting into the attack next wkend to continue the install.
  13. by the way, am I correct in saying that with a 7.1 set up when listening in 5.1 the rear\back surrounds will not be producing the "surround sound?" My surrounds If this is correct you can see that I am in a small jam. I love the sound of my rcw-5's (and spent some $$on them too), but unless I am listening to something in 6.1\7.1 they are not "getting any exercise."
  14. shade and all thx for the replies. door frame and window in the way for in walls as surrounds. I have pondered about the rs25, I just prefer direct firing speaks. I have put serious thought into the rsx 3 or rsx 4 series. just hard to find in pairs of two, with the exception of ebay. Also with the amount of room I have for surrounds would like something smaller than the rs25's. That is why i looked into the bose cubes. they are less conspicuous. has anyone tried the rsx's? I don't see alot of comments on those speaks here. Maybe I am not looking hard enough.
  15. In a 7.1 set up, when you are listening to a TV program or movie that is 5.1 which surround speakers pick up the rear channels? The surround speakers (SS) or the rear/back surround speakers? Here is my situation. I am running a 5.1 system and going to 7.1. I am using some RCW-5's as my rears, but they are in the wall behind me (aka rear surround in a 7.1 setup, I think).Do to the layout of my HT room I cannot put very large speakers as my side surround speakers. I love my rcw-5's and I would love to retain them for when I use 5.1(mainly b/c they are great and as side surrounds have two descrete channels), but they can only go behind the listening position. I am forced to go with a much smaller and less obtrusive speaker mounted high (approx. 7ft.)for the side surrounds. Any suggestions on what to get? I know everone on this forum bashes bose, but the size of the lifestyle cube is perfect for my surround application (but I don't want some p.o.s speaker that will get all that use as my SS). Again do to layout I cannot use in wall speakers in this location and I do not want a huge box enclosure in this location. Sorry for the long explaination...trying to get the idea across. also, I have been reading this forum for some time. Avid Klipsch fan and love the forum.
