  1. The only thing I thought of on the Obbligato caps was to use the 2.0uF film/oil and than just double up for the woofer. Supposedly diyhifi.com is going to expand the values they will carry. No word on when this will happen though. As for the inductor, there's some that believe the original is sufficient, and some that believe in replacing it. Add to that the different types of inductors one could use and it makes choosing what type challenging. James
  2. Sorry bout that, I really meant to say I replaced the whole network and added the P-Trap. James
  3. I sure hope so. I heard about these Obbligato caps on the Bottlehead forum so I thought I would give them a try. Can't really go wrong for the low prices they are asking. Will post back and let everyone know how they sound. Hardest part is the break-in period, but to do that you have to play them. On my previous speakers, Heresy, I replaced the whole network with a P-Trap. They took a while to settle in, but once they did they sounded really nice. Sold those to a co-worker when I bought the Cornwall's. I opened up the backs and the networks don't have the usual oil caps found in most of the Klipsch line. They look like poly caps, not sure if they were upgraded or came stock like that. I'll have to open them again and see what I really have in there. I may just build a whole new set of boards and keep the stock ones complete. that way if I decide to sell them, fat chance of that happening, I've got the stock ones to put back in. If you can't tweak it there's no sense in owning it. James
  4. Thanks for the reply. I was hoping that either the 3.3 or 4.7 would work, but may have to combine two to get the correct values. They have a 2.0uF film/oil that should work. At $5.50 ea not that big a deal. Wanted to order some caps for my Bottlehead amps anyway, so might as well get busy ordering. The Cornwall's are 1975 I believe. Serial #'s 6N719/6N720. They sound pretty good as is. Could sound better. Jim
  5. I recently purchased a pair of Cornwall 1's and would like to update the caps in the B network. Would like to try some Obbligato caps, but the place that carries them doesn't stock an exact value for the 4.0uF. Closest they have are 3.3uF aluminum/film or 4.7uF film/oil. How close in value do you need to be? James
  6. Good luck finding Mullard 6BQ5's in the price range you can afford. They are rare and command a high price. You might try the Sovtek EL 84M 6BQ5's, I've used them for the past four years and have had good luck with them. The price from Ned at Triode is very reasonable too. The Brimar ECC83's work very well in my amps. What type of amps are you using? I'm currently using Fisher model 30A mono blocks that use the same tube complement. ------------------ Jim
  7. You'll be back, just as soon as you get a job, buy your speakers, and get a good ISP. Seriously though, congrats on finishing what you started. Hopefully you'll be able to work in the field you studied, and enjoy it. And if you can make enough to live comfortably and indulge your hobbies, what more could you ask for? Good luck! ------------------ Jim
  8. I'm sorry to hear of your condition. I wish you all of the best. I will keep you in my prayers. Stay positive, and remember laughter is the best medicine. ------------------ Jim
  9. I think you will find that preferences in tubes has a lot to do with your music tastes and listening habits. If you know someone in your area that has tubes and doesn't mind bringing them over for you to audition than that will give you some reference points to go by. ------------------ Jim
  10. This is by far the best BB I have visited. Interesting, informative, entertaining & addictive. Gotta love it. For the most part the subscribers on this BB show respect for each other, which is refreshing in today's world. I thank the people of Klipsch for hosting this site. And the subscribers for their contributions in making this the best BB ever. ------------------ Jim
  11. I too was saddened by the news of the passing of Paul Klipsch. He will leave a void that may never be filled. The best way to pay homage to this great man is to play music through the one thing that binds us all together, our Klipsch speakers. Since the service will be on friday how fitting it would be for all the Klipschers to crank up their systems and send Paul off in fashion. God has plans for Paul, now when you hear the thunder it will sound like real thunder. RIP PWK ------------------ Jim
  12. I just had an e-mail infoming me of the passing of Paul Klipsch. I haven't seen anything official posted from the Klipsch website. Hope this isn't true. BobG can you confirm this? Jim L ------------------ Jim
  13. I've used the Last Preservative but not the Cleaning System. Since I now have a record cleaning machine I see no need for it. A clean record not only makes the whole experience enjoyable, but also lessens wear and tear on the stylus and record. I generally clean used albums three or four times before they go on my table. New albums should be cleaned at least once. A quality carbon fibre brush is a must also. If you want the whole nine yards get a stylus cleaner and stylus treatment. ------------------ Jim
  14. TPD, It looks like you stumbled onto a nice pair of CW's that with the proper care will serve you well. I think you should listem to them carefully before you consider selling them. Than you will get the bug to refurbish them. If your not that handy at woodworking there are plenty of cabinet shops in the Dallas area that you could get to do the work. However, if you want real satisfaction try doing the restoration work yourself. With the expertise on this BB you won't be far from helpful advice. Chris, Beautiful job on the K's, I can tell you take pride in your work. ------------------ Jim
  15. Who said you can't turn a hobby into a job? Congrats SteveP on the job, we can expect the quality to be even better. Miss Becky, once you get moved to Indianapolis you won't be lonely any longer. You'll have the entire Klipsch family to share time with. Until then we're still here on the BB. ------------------ Jim
