  1. Hands down, it was Vanilla Sky. What's worse, we walked into the wrong theater room, which was also playing Vanilla Sky. It had already started, so we figured we had to be 2 or 3 minutes late, right? Wrong, wrong room. We were probably 45 minutes or an hour into it. Totally lost. Well, in fairness, I can say the last half sucked. [] Never cared to see the first half. BTW the new Harry Potter is like the first, is like the second, is like the third. The catchy, cute little gimmicks are just not catchy anymore. I flipped back a couple of arm rests and slept peacefully, whicle my wife enjoyed the movie.
  2. They say the corners should be flush up against the wall corner - nice and snug. I'm sure a gasket would be fine. I can't get mine flush because the walls are not perfectly square - or maybe it's the speakers. [] So, I'm about 1/2 - 1 inch off. I'm perfectly satisfied the way they sound as are. So, you can either fit into 1 of 2 categories: (1) bog down in the minutia and become an "ever-tweaker," or (2) rest your mind and enjoy the speaks. I'm in category 2, but I'd like to know about some of these crossovers. When you get speakers that good, IMO, if you are not dazzled, try a different amp. It seems not enough emphasis is put on amps - but this is a speaker forum, I guess. I'd lay my money on the table that most people here who have comparable amps to your HK would wet their pants if they heard KHorns through Duke's Crown K-2!
  3. Yeah, Johnny Cash was all over the place on the lyrics. Also, I think a "Hank Thompson" was mentioned. Did not see George Thorogood, though. Oh, Michael............ Well? We're waiting.
  4. What is supposed to be the difference in sound qualities? Hz and slope mean nothing to me. A general description would be nice.
  5. Michael, U-da-man! It is 30 days in the hole by Humble Pie. I checked for you. Post your challenge.
  6. Wo, there! Are you saying that after feeding them 64 watts, the rest of the power goes somewhere other than loudness? Doesn't sound right to me. My old 90-watt/channel Marantz cranked all the way up was still not comparable to my Crown.
  7. Wow, look at all these posts now that we're past The Man in Black. It was a cathartic relief. And Max, I never saw your post (you type too fast). Don't know the knew one, but somebody get it so we can confirm Fish is out of his Country stack. []
  8. You're right, Michael. I Googled. Johnny Cash is not rock, except if you live in Austin or Nashville. Sorry Fish. Classic rock only. Next: "Baby, we ain't the first I'm sure a lot of other lovers been burned Right now this ain't real to you It's one of those things you got to feel to be true"

    Kong

King Kong was very well done. A few criticisms were: (1) idiotic-looking natives should have been more like "people," (2) some movies really don't NEED humor, but they keep putting a little humor into EVERY movie these days (I wish they'd stop on some), and (3) the girl chases Kong to too many extremes (like she climbs up the last ladder to the pinnacle of the building), and the guy chases the girl to the same extremes. Other than these, which I will emphasize as very minor, the movie was very entertaining. The star, King Kong, had the best character traits by far as compared to older versions.
  10. Hey, Fish. How 'bout a hint, or if it's too obscure, put us out of our misery and give a new challenge.
  11. No upgraded crossovers. Still Type AA. Don't know what year. The drivers have AlNiCo magnets, which might not be used anymore. There are some writings I've seen that say AlNiCo is a better magnet. Maybe all KHorns still incorporate them. I don't know. I wouldn't worry about crossovers now if I were you. I have seen lots of comments that you should make upgrading them a priority if you get some old, used KHorns. But really, with my Crown running them, they are plenty good. Not to say I won't change my mind down the road.... Listen to Duke's comments re: Crown, also. He runs a K-2 apparently. Never heard it. But here's a link: http://www.djmart.com/djgear/crowk2powam.html It is even described as having "tight, chest-slamming low end, crystal-clear highs and a well-defined midrange." That definitely describes the way my Microtech 1200 sounds. I think the units are probably comparable, except the K-2 would be even a step up. I know mine is more than a KHorn can take, so the K-2 would definitely be overkill. But so what? Look how inexpensive they are. The K-2 looks better IMO, too. If you want to really see what those KHorns will do, drive them with a K-2. I've never heard it, but I am absolutely, positively sure after you hear it drive your KHorns, you'll know that your Harman Kardon is mere child's play. Have fun!
  12. Rumble is either CD's jumbling or too much distortion. If it's loud enough for you already, good. You'll save money. If you're ever curious, invite a friend w/a good amp to bring it over.
  13. I heard someone say they were going from So.Cal. to Tennessee. Then, I heard Michael say he could get to Tenn. - no problem. Michael? They sure are pretty. And of all that Klipsch, you don't have KHorns. It's time, my friend!
  14. They laugh about the wire debate because the wire will not make any difference. 14 gau. is plenty good. On the amp issue, I didn't mean dB reading. Much simpler. How high are you turning it. In the old days, our stuff had knobs with defined stop points. I wasn't thinking because I'll bet your newer HK does not. It turns continuously..... forever... and ever (why, I'll never know). But certainly, it counts up to 100, or from from a negative to 0, or from a negative to positve number. In my question, for example, if the range on your volume was negative 50 to 50, then 0 would be half way, and 25 would be 3/4. Just curious if your were running the volume half way up, 2/3, 3/4 or what. You'll like that Steely Dan through them. At high volumes, the music is still so..... clean. It's like the sound comes out with such little effort, yet at such high volumes. So, tell me, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4... or what?
  15. "Sweet things from Boston So young and willing Moved down to Scarsdale Where the hell am I?" Name that Tune!
  16. What an interesting bit of trivia! Now, name my tune. It's a gimme.
  17. Allright, Michael. Get those KHorns. There's also some on e-bay in Titusville, Fla. - not Tiger Wood, of course.
  18. You mean that sound that reminds me of cranking up some sort of industrial elevator? I have no idea.
  19. I almost didn't get it, but I KNEW that line..... "Fireball" by Deep Purple. What a cool, rocking tune! Next: "Sweet things from boston So young and willing Moved down to scarsdale Where the hell am i"
  20. Looks like you definitely have an issue w/the fireplace. That would seem to scatter the bass all over the place. How high could you turn the HK? 1/2, 3/4? Sorry for skepticim earlier - occasionally, we see some pranksters that love to bait us into a frenzy. Plus, give them a good test on a clean song - something like Steely Dan's "I've Got the News," "Home at Last," or "Babylon Sister." You'll see how crisp they are. Now, how high could you crank it?
  21. Okay, guys. Sport your wares! This will be interesting reading. I might upgrade if I could just get an appreciation of what the difference is. Maybe I'd have to hear them.
  22. You don't need to hear Corns anymore. The KHorns are definitely better. I have both. HK-AVR430 can be too much? Not on your life. It's 65 watts, while KHorns are rated to handle 100 watts continuous w/ I believe 400 watt peaks. If there's any issue with too much coming from the HK, it would be too much distortion. Anybody here doubt she could crank the HK all the way and walk away, leaving it blaring unattended? No doubts on my end, unless distortion gets too bad on the HK. I cranked my old Marantz 1180DC (90 w/channel) all the way on Corns. Plus, keep in mind, your HK will run more efficiently with the KHorns, meaning you can crank it much higher before it peaks/clips. I did blow one of my tweeters in the Corns many years ago from distortion coming from my Marantz. Klipsch sold me these doo-woppees called zeener diodes. Cheap gadget for protecting the little tweets from damage. But anyway, you'll see as you get used to them and a little more confident. I had to adjust to being able to crank my Crown higher through my Khorns than through my Cornwalls. I posted a thread about this a couple of weeks ago.
  23. Speaking of amps, I am not knowledgeable as to the spectrum of makes out there, but I'll say my Crown Microtech 1200 is enough to drive them to their limit - and then some. I cannot turn it up all the way. I can assure you that you will have no problem turning your HK all the way up, so don't chicken out. You'll see. BTW, I've seen the Crowns like mine used for pretty cheap - like $400 or so. Not a pretty amp, but it is definitely serious. I think it's intended for a professional PA amp for touring bands. Enjoy your speaks!
