  1. Well its 11:40PM and I cant sleep. This happens to me occstionally and I usually end up watching TV or cleaning all night. Anyone else here have occastional insomnia? Earle
  2. I love my KG speakers. Each time I go and listen to other speakers, including Klipsch, I keep coming back to the KG series. Do the RF5/7's sound better? Yes, but not over a $1000 better. Earle
  3. My opinion is, If you are happy with your HT/Music system that is all that really counts. I will ask for advice, but I buy what makes me happy. Earle
  4. I think that sometimes questions are ignored because thay hae been asked and answered many times. A quick search would most likely answer most question. This forum is such a big help and is growing everyday. Thanks everyone for all your help. Now should I set my speakers to large or small? Earle
  5. HornEd, Im pleased with the way my 4.2C came out. I cant hear any negative effects of the horn being mounted vertically over horizontally. I have the 4.2 on my old 40"RPTV for now but still want to do some testing with placement. Im think that it would sound better on the floor under the screen aimed upward. I think that having large speaker sitting on a large plastic box(TV) cant allow the best sound. The speaker matches far better than the 2.2v, not to mention that it have good output down to about 45hz. I now have all my speakers xover at 40hz and this has given me great inroom response. MY BFD is in bypass mode until and feel like playing around with a small house curve. My only problem is now Im back to a 5.1 setup and need to find another set on rear centers. I will probably go with a pair of KG 2.5's as room is tight behind my coach and the 4.2's were really too big. I want to make a pair of custom stands for the 2.5s when I get them. Need to find them first, Ebay here I come. Earle
  6. I know that I should probably hold on to it, but since I broke up a pair of 4.2s(my old rear centers) I need to finance another set for the rear centers. I also have a pair of KSB 3.1's available. I have been giving thought to a pair of KG 2.5's or 3.2's to use a rear centers. I really cant use a single rear center in my room, or the extra 4.2 would have the job. The 4.2's were really kinda big for rear centers and took up alot of room. The thing is I prefer to cross all speakers over a 40hz, using such a low crossover gets rid of nearly all room modes and gives me damn near flat response. Would I have any problems using a pair of 2.5's in the rears? Earle PS I have thought about using the 3.1s as rear centers, but then I dont have a KGHT anymore.
  7. Scooter, All I can say is wow. Its huge!!! Ill bet you can hardly wait to hear that beast roar. Good luck and keep us posted earle
  8. Doug, It does look like an Epic. Never even thought about that until it was all done. Scooter, Thanks for the compliment. It was a lot of fun to buuild. The speaker went together easy. Im gaining confidence in my woodworking ability. Im no carpenter yet, but maybe one day. Im thinking about designing a Flexi stand once I get my HDTV. Im probably gonna go with the Mits 55". I cant wait until next month. As of now my KG2.2v is up for sale, no going back to it now. Earle
  9. I have a black KG 2.2v for sale. There is some wear on the speaker, but otherwise in great shape. The reason I'm selling it is I just built a HornEd 4.2 Center and no longer need the 2.2. I can email pics to interested parties. Asking $150+shipping. If there is no interest here Ill Ebay it in a couple of days. I am a master trader on HTF and have a feedback rating of 100% on Ebay under s.decker@snet.net
  10. thanks for the compliment. the pic came out crappy, Ill try to get a better one later. No its not shielded but in on a RPTV. I was able to let the system rip after my wife woke up. I like this new speaker. I have all speaker crossed at 40hz. Everything sounds amazing, I never realized what I was missing from the center channel. earle
  11. Well its done and sounds great. Now I have a real center channel. I had to mount the horn vertical because of space issues. I cant imagine it sounding any better if I mounted it horzontally. Thanks for all the help everyone, this really wasnt that hard to do. Now I have to find the best spot for the speaker. Its on the TV now but Im gonna make somekind of stand and try it on the floor aimed up slightly. I figure the speaker on a stand will sound better than perched up on top of a large plastic box. Pics to come soon... Earle
  12. HornEd, Thanks for to info. I was thinking, I know dangerous stuff, What about putting the passive radiator on the rear of the speaker? Similar to a KG 4. Trimming the horn was not going to happen, that would guarantee a large piece of trash. I dont have the tools or skills for that. STL was going to build the 4.2C for me with his extra 4.2, but shipping concerns and $$$ make me think I could handle this project. If this project works out I'll have a extra 4.2 for sale. Earle
  13. I almost forgot. Its great to see you posting again HornEd. You always have a great outlook on things. Hope your feeling well. thanks for the info STL. Helpful as always I post pics as soon as this speaker is done. Im just hopeng I didnt make a mistake by breaking up a pair of great 4.2s. Earle
  14. I will try to put the horn is the horizontal position. The problem is going to be space. The 4.2 motor board is 29 3/4" long and with the horn centered space is tight. If it doesnt fit what are the problems with a vertical mount? Can I trim some of the plastic trim arond the horns if needed to make it fit? Earle
  15. Wow, Im just making mine for my own enjoyment I got the baffle out last night and cleaned up all the glue residue, what a PIA. Today I go to Home Depot and get the new baffle and hopefully install it. Should I leave the horn horzontal or should I mount it vertically? Im leaning toward a horizontal mount now. Maybe Ill make 2 baffles and try out both ways. Earle
  16. I have a pair of KG 4.2's and want to make one a center channel. Do I have to make any changes to the crossover? Is it really as simple as making a new front baffle? Does it make a difference what side the PR is on? TIA

  18. If you can get a 525 at J&R for $699, give it a listen. Theats a great price. I have a Rotel 1055 and for music it is leagues ahead of the Denon and Yamaha receivers. HT is great with any of the current receivers in that price range. You can get the Rotel for about $1100 out the door. Check it out, it wont disapoint. Earle
  19. Listen to the Rotel 1055. I used to have a Denon 3802, which is a great HT receiver. The 1055 is a much better reciever, imho. Since I got the 1055 I've started listening to music again. Just my 2 cents Check it out and buy what you prefer.
  20. Formica, Actually I have 2 center preouts on the 1055 so I just plugged to sub into the 2nd one and set the volume/crossover by ear. I may try the way that you suggest down the road.
  21. I just bought a pair of Klipsch KG 5.2's. I now have 5.2's as my mains and surrounds and 4.2's as center surrounds. My center is a KG 2.2v. The preamp is a Rotel 1055, with a Rotel 985mkII and a RB 1070 powering the speakers. Subs are 2 SVS 20-39's and a 25-31PCi. The Rotel 1055 allows the subs to crossed over at 40hz, 60hz, and 80hz. It does go higher but I have no need of the higher frequencies. I currently have the speakers set to small with a 40hz xover. With this setting nearly all room mode issues are gone. The problem is the KG 2.2 is not capable of playing down to 40hz. The other speakers have no problem going down to 40hz in my room. I wish the Rotel had the Outlaw or HK triple crossover. I am trying a sub on the center channel. I figured any cheap sub can play down to 40hz(where my speakers are HP'ed). I just blended the sub by ear in 7 channel stereo with all other speakers unplugged. it makes a differnce, the front seems to have alittle more punch with the sub. Anyone have any thoughts. Earle
  22. Im getting closer. I just got a Polk PSW202 to use as a center channel sub. Open box at CC for $125 After dialing in the sub Im happy with the tweak. Now the center speaker has some more umph(for a lack of a better term). I calibrated the sub by ear by unplugging all other speakers and putting my 1055 in 7 channel stereo. Then I adjusted the volume and LP crossover by ear. Its amazing how great subs sound when they only have to reproduce the real deep bass. That is <40hz. I think im gonna keep the center sub. See my website for pictures of the new sub and the rest of my HT Earle
