  1. I agree fully. Over the years I have powered Klipschorns with everything from low power SET amps to high power SS and find that a certain minimum is necessary to provide realistic dynamics. At present I'm using a SS 60 wpc "high bias class A" type amplifier and find it the best yet as it provides smooth mid and high frequency reproduction with a solid and dynamic bottom end. As far as the corner "sealing" goes a reasonably tight fit will do. Because of the different dimensions of rooms a "tight" corner fit might leave one or both speakers not optimally facing the listening position. The speakers may have to be "aimed" to give a desired "listening position coverage". I use a laser pointer to have the left tweeter pointed to just outside the right shoulder area of two seat 'Sweet Spot" and the the right tweeter aimed at the outside of the left shoulder of the two seat area. This I find gives a good "soundstage" and only requires a small movement of the speaker in either a right or left direction. Don't be afraid to experiment a little as the room is one of the most important components of your sound system and, every room is different.
  2. Re: Klipsch and amplification. I have used all types of pre and amplification to drive my Klipschorns ranging from all tube SETs with tube preamps to high powered SS with SS preamplification and combinations thereof. Each has offered some advantages but also disadvantages. At present I am using a SS pre-amp into a SS 'pure class 'A' design 60wpc amplifier that is giving me the best combination that I have yet obtained. None of the SS "hardness & glare" that I have previuosly experienced with some SS designs. I am geting good solid low frequency reproduction with great timbre and with quick transient response. The mids and highs are clean smooth and detailed. I believe that it depends on how well the equipment is designed and implemented that counts. I previously wouldn't have thought that SS and Klipschorns could be such a good match. One thing, Klipschorns certainly prove out the computer term: Garbage In, Garbage Out. They reflect more than any other speaker that I am aware of exactly what is fed into them: Bad Sound In, Bad Sound Out conversely Good Sound In, Good Sound Out. It's a two edged sword so to speak. Many speaker designs may provide a more all round pleasant experience by being "voiced" to make input signals both good and bad sound acceptable but, even though they might not sound as bad as a Klipschorn with a POOR input, they will never sound as GREAT as a Klipschorn does with a GOOD input. The above is even magnified more greatly by the quality of your front end. All I can say is that the above has been my personal experience anyway.
  3. For what it's worth IMHO the absolute best sounding recording that I have is an SACD derived from what was originally a 24Bits/96Khz master: Joe Weed: The Vultures" TopMusic SACD-1028. I find in gerneral that a SACD re-mastered from a well recorded original adds a certain "intagible" quality (musicality) that Redbook CD doesn't possess, also with SACD there is an absence of a "Digital Grundge" almost always present on Redbook in the past. One dynamite sounding Redbook IMO is: 'Eric Clapton Unplugged' Reprise CDW 45024 I am also impressed with some of the JVC XRCD stuff. In a musical sense I still think Higher Rez reaches beyond Redbook capability at least in my experience with SACD.
  4. At present I am using and am very satisfied with an Accustic Arts Pre-1 preamp in my system. I am considering the purchase of an Accustic Arts Amp II - AC HP amplifier and, would like to know if anyone out there has one or, has used one with Klipschorns. Any info would be appreciated. thanks.

Tom ---------------- Used to have a .458 Win Mag just for "kicks" ('bout 50 ft lbs to the shoulder each time fired)! Funny though, it was one of the most accurate guns I ever owned, three shots into the size of a 50 cent coin offhand at 50 yards.
  7. I think a lot depends what, you are trying to drive and into what space its loaded into. While a 600 wpc amp might be necessary for to drive the top B&Ws like the 800 or 801 models they wouldn't make too much sense with Klipschorns. It is generaly accepted that with all things being equal a lower powered amp will "sound better" than a higher powered amp of the same design. Even a Klipschorn would need a reasonably substantial amount of input signal if you were trying to fill a huge space with a high average spl.
  8. I've used BDR cones for a few years now. I find that they offer a certain amount of mechanical isolation without "coloring" or "softening" of the sound that I have experienced using other kinds of isolation devices. Nothing is magic but, every little bit helps if it working in the right direction. I use the cones under all my equipment except my SACD player and speakers. See if a dealer will give you a trial period with some sort of return guarantee. Trying them in your own particular situation is the only way to really know for sure if they are of benefit to you.

I believe 24/96 and above is the ticket for the audio future." I must admit that the best sounding SACD that I have to date is derived from a 24 bit/96 KHZ master. Joe Weed: 'VULTURES' TopMusic SACD-1028 This is 'Surf' music played by some fantastic bluegrass musicians. Anyone with an SACD system should try to get hold of this one, it's pure ear candy and has earned a regular and somewhat "exhaulted" spot in my rotation. Don't overlook another thing, SACD is still relatively new and, even as we speak there are improvements in recording/mastering SACD technology. Judging only by what I am hearing I can't help but get excited over how SACD reproduces music. I'm enjoying, and looking forward to new releases more than ever now.
  10. I had a lot invested in TTs arms and cartridges back in the 70's. Loved the sound. In the early 80's with the advent of 'CD' and "Perfect Sound Forever" I jumped right into CD and got rid of all my vinyl. Bad mistake. I lived with players, transports and DACs and grew increasingly dissatisfied with CD until just recently. I purchased a Sony SCD-1 SACD/CD player and WOW! has that changed things. I find that the CD repoduction through this unit is amazing. Much better CD sound than I ever hoped for. But, It doesn't, even with the best CD's, come anywhere near the experience of listening to a well recorded SACD. IMHO SACD properly implemented (recorded and mastered) offers the best of both vinyl and conventional CD and in some instances surpasses them both. It's hard to explain but as soon as you put on a good SACD you are aware of a much more "relaxed" presentation. I told you it was hard to explain The above are my own personal experiences so that's what I can relate to. If you do get the chance to plug an SCD-1 or similar player into your system do so, you might be in for a very interesting time.
  11. I was told about it by my Klipsch connection here in Toronto. What I do know is that they are supposed to be "High End" products designed specifically to drive the Heritage line of speakers. I presume we are talking SS here. After many years I have settled on a combo of tube preamp and 60 wpc SS 'pure class 'A' type amp and I am very satisfied with the results. Info on the new Heritage electronic line is supposed to be available as early as next week.
  12. Anyone have info on these upcoming new Heritage products? tnx
  13. Anyone experimented with a pair of powered subs with Klipschorns? My priority would be music with Home Theater secondary. Seamless integration and 1/2 to full octave extension would be desirable. Any suggestions? ------------------ ====================================================================== "Music? 14. First worst was the Bose 901 series III that I received as part payment for a McIntosh Bi-Amped Pro JBL system back in the seventies. THUD, THUD, THUD. What you just read was the sound of me banging my head against the wall. The second worst was a pair of Marble Topped Empire end table speaker thingies. THANK HEAVEN FOR KLIPSCHORNS !!! ------------------ ====================================================================== "Music? We ain't got no music. We don't need no music.
