  1. tom, the video section basically calibrates your tv video setting to the video output characteristics of your dvd player. basically has u turn down the tv sharpness level (well that seemed to be the most effective change for me anyway ) i was complaining on avia not putting anything on their lfe channel for the subwoofer phase test but found away around that (myself as they never responded to 3 emails) by changing the receiver input mode from auto/digital to analog for that test.
  2. sub, if i may ask, where'd u buy your lf?
  3. t-man, i guess when u said "it", you meant "them" probably disappears when u unplug the sub? did it just start when u went from line level to speaker level connects?
  4. i think they definitely do, but depends on your listening & preferences. their are a multitude of subs & preferences there too. klipsch has a new line of reference subs coming around may that sound like real killers. happy hunting... ------------------ Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 subwoofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  5. don't let the 3000 watt peak class D amps on the vel hgs series fool you. without a high gain servo/limiter/accelerometer the sv & new rsw subs should give you a lot more HT slam if that's what you want. i love my vel hgs-18 for it's pitch definition & bass quality for music, but that accelerometer does really clamp-down on the explosions & such. the pr director/tech at vel told me the only hgs sub that really works well for HT with those loud/efficient klipsch is the 18. i mean the hgs series are great subs (& pretty expensive too), but imo, w/ these, vel has gone more for bass quality than quantity. if you're looking at vel hgs, but looking for a lot of bass/slam, you could instead consider getting 2 lower price subs like their CT-150 or the sv, or the new klipsch rsw (which sound like a real killer higher end sub to be differentiated from their ksw line of which probably u read the mixed review). many subs & set-ups to consider...depends a lot on your wants & circumstances. ------------------ Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 subwoofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  6. does it do it the same or as bad when u switch the receiver/preamp to stereo mode? if not, then it's probably those noisy dsp in the preamp. i get some sub hum too w/ this sony until i switch to stereo mode - then it disappears. ------------------ Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 subwoofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!

    EQ Settings

it boosts or decreases the output level of the sound at a given frequency level (there should be a control setting for that too). my sony manual has a pretty good basic explanation of it's equalizer. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  8. indy, the Fred who bought the co. is the indianalopis businessman cousin of paul. must be the same one eh? anyway, here's the serial # letter key for the year of make for your klipsch in those years. 1962 A 1963 B 1964 C 1965 D 1966 E 1967 F 1968 G 1969 H 1970 I 1971 J 1972 K 1973 L 1974 M 1975 N 1976 P 1977 R 1978 S 1979 T 1980 U 1981 W 1982 X 1983 Y so your heresy's are 1980s, etc. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  9. wonder if the new rc-7 will be a match w/ cornwalls. i'd like to have a center I could someday maybe put w/ my cornwalls if i decide to get the rf-7 & rc-7 to replace the current rf-3 & rc-3. guess, as klipsch still seems to be doing the voicing work, we'll see. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  10. yea I think u have the right reservations. u may want to try listening to the sf-2 & a bigger sub, like the ksw-15. i'd listen w/ a the sub before u seal a deal on anything. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  11. probably were. yea make sure u listen to them 1st. the reference & legends (like all different speakers) do sound different. & so do their heritage line for that matter the legends are starting be phased out for these new references it does appear. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  12. an, have u heard them all yet? sounds like you're already sold on the klipsch sound after listening to numerous other speakers for pretty much HT only that should be a pretty nice sounding set up then. i really like the sound of my rf-3 & rc-3, but i'll probably upgrade to those new rf-7 & rc-7 if they sound as good as they say. they're coming around may, but of course they'll be mas $.
  13. jmo, but looks like a great set-up to me. that denon's a sweet unit from what i've seen & heard. for a 7.1 set up for both music & HT though, i'd consider using a pair of direct radiating speakers like the rf-3 (or rb-5 if there's not enough space) for rear surrounds. rs-3 for sides. & u really should have a subwoofer for that .1. make sure u like the way they sound before u finalize the purchase.
  14. hey that section w/ the klipsch emblem looks like a big cornwall w/ the port on the bottom & all maybe they should paint a grill on there
  15. phil, thanks for the tip. i'll look for that. luved that "21st century schitzoid man" tune
  16. aaron, i have a crossover out switch on my sub & set it out for HT w/ LFE. LFE is different from low bass - some if not most receivers w/ the usual sub set-up send all LFE to your sub no matter what your large/small settings are. the main thing is LFE can go up to 120HZ, so if u can't switch out the crossover, you may want to turn it all the way up so u don't cut off any LFE. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster Z-12 cable Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  17. hopefully w/ their technological advances, we'll some day have electronics that give us just what we want w/ the flip of a switch. f.e., all they have to do is give us receiver modes that let US designate which channel(s) go to which specific speakers. then we could manipulate the mix more to our liking. shouldn't be too far off.
  18. did someone need a tapestry??? i've got a real big one of the dogs playing poker in storage. make me an offer
  19. oh no, could be in on this conversation- just be wasting more of our tax $ anyway
  20. yes bjd. that's usually how that's done.
  21. visit your klipsch dealer finally figured out how to make that in bold. sorry, that should have been emphasized more.
  22. lol pete. pulled off the corn backs recently & nothing left there from the 80's & who's that gen.? i think i deduced that the unit #s can be either 3 or 4 digits. 3 in my case. so i guess then they're the 7th wk of '84. i can now sleep & thanks for that link matt!
  23. yea bob, how is that voicing work coming? i'll be real curious to see if that rc-7 might match well w/ the heritage speakers. or is it the goal to really only have the rs-7 & rsw subs match up well w/ the ole heritage line?
