  1. ross, yea it's no problem if u use 6 surrounds. my problem is w/ my cheapness i'd rather do it w/ only 4 iow, using your the diagram, i'd like to use my cornwalls that are now in the B position to do both B & the rear A. actually i discovered u can do it all if u have another amp. think i'll wait for a all-in-one that'll do it all or buy more speakers. I just love my cornwalls so much I'd like to be able to use them for everything (but not use the dipoles for music). thanks again. 2. what the hell? figures they misspelled bass does kinda grow on ye though...
  3. ok a light finally went off there & from that other thread on the 5800. so if I had the 4800 & another amp like u i could do what I want. if i got just a 5800 however I could not (per colabear on the other thread). thanks again. p.s., as the receiver features are ever changing, sure they'll have a self-contained model w/ this flexability in the near future. by the time I get around to it i'd probably end up getting more speaks to have 9 total plus sub anyway. Boa
  4. can u explain the "buy it now" on ebay. i've never worked w/ ebay but why wouldn't everybody do it at the current price? how do u know what the seller & buyer agree to off site?
  5. thanks again cola. i'm leaning toward just keeping my &%*$ sony (it's less than 1 yr. old anyway) & just using it's A+B for the cornwalls for music only then w/ the $ getting the new rs-7 to put on top of em for surround HT. at least til I get a new house
  6. i have the sony de935 & they say the center & rears must be 8 omh speaks. don't know if this is really a must though - maybe a real tech expert will answer or u may want to try this under tech quests. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  7. thanks cola! yea I was wondering if just w/ that mode u could set the surround (rs) to off & still the rear surround (cornwalls) would play. guess it's no real biggy but i'd rather not have the side dipoles playing for music cds. if u can't turn em off i guess u could just turn the level all the wat down just for that mode(?) i think i was wondering w/ your set-up on that other thread - could u put your other ksp-6 in for another rear surround, iow, is 2 better than 1? ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  8. yea w/ an empty indoor pool for the sub pit
  9. i think those are not cornwalls but rather Forte (For) & think they were made the 276th day of 1989. no good idea of value, but ebay... ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  10. ro, they were made in 1976. depends of course on their condition, but i'd guess somewhere around $1K for the pr. ebay's a good source for value. some, including my biased self, proclaim the corns to be the best speaker for the $ ever made. they were discontinued by klipsch for more streamline boxes for today's home theater. though the khorn & other klipsch classics are still being made, basically i believe klipsch considered them just to big for the mid-sized speaker class. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  11. ler, yea that makes sense w/ the remote speakers & sub. thanks for the reply & info. i went & started a new thread on this too under HT. i saw how i could put the cornwalls on surround B & use them only for music, but then I started thinking with the corns in the rear anyway why not just use them for both rear music cd play (without the side bipolar surrounds) & also use them for rear effects on HT (& use that matrixed 7.1). looks like this is possible though the denon 4800 manual doesn't cover it per se. also, then i guess i could look to the 5800 & not need another power amp. what mode do u use for CD music? if u use the 5 channel stereo mode, do u then have it set up to play the side rs too or just the rears as far as surrounds go?
  12. holy smokes ross, that'll sound better than any local movie house by far. are u also getting an array of subs (like the new rws-15 possibly the 5800 will probably do the above no problem (& about any other combo u want). that 7 channel power supply is great & will probably soon be the standard. i really wondered why denon doesn't seem to cover my proposed set-up in the manual. probably because it's overkill for rear surrounds, & why not just get 2 more speakers. but i have those space limits. & kinda seems like a waste to use the corns only for music or only for ht for that matter. thanks for the site ref. Boa
  13. hey quenten, thanks for the reply. i'd like to have that memory function like the denon but bet there are many others that have it for speaker selection/modes. where's all the denon dudes? how bout that 7.1! there's are holes in my surround sound & i need a $4k band-aid
  14. p.s., i still have los cochinos on vinyl. anybody got the 8-track?
  15. has chong been on nash bridges yet? or was that him? need to watch more tv
  16. if i were to go w/ the denon & use the below (hopeful) speaker set up, would the denon work ok if i wanted to switch off the side surrounds for music only (5 channel stereo) but on for 7.1 channnel ht. or any recommends on a better set-up? (i'm really space limited as u can see w/ the cornwalls in the rear). thanks! Front [] [] [] RF-7, RC-7 [] Couch [] RS-7 [] [] Cornwalls (& Pow Amp?) Rear Surround - Use for Rear Effects on HT; & for music(cd), as the only surrounds for direct or 5 channel stereo modes hope the chart is clear. guess what i'm basically wondering is will the denon allow u to select Surround A - off & Surround Rear-On for just the 5 channel stereo mode & then remember it? if so, wonder why the denon manual doesn't seem to support the above. maybe caus i'm hoping for a total of only 4 surrounds instead of 6 (in their diagrams they seem to propose using the music speakers as the B surrounds- why not use like the cornwalls for both ht & music in this capacity?). it also looks like w/ the avr-5800 u don't even need a sep. power amp. correct? also, any thoughts on a better way given my prefs & room limitations? ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  17. jv, yea that's really what the A/B side surrounds function is for (switching between direct & bipolar, etc. type) speakers for music vs. ht it looks to me. like steve said, u can run a+b surrounds but still they would put out the same stuff at the same time. the only way to hook up the rear surrounds is w/ the effects preouts. so u could do that & just use the speaker connections for both sets of side surrounds A+B. don't know about using the surround preouts if u want to add another amp - that doesn't really seem necessary anyway. what is your current set-up (besides the receiver & amp)???
  18. b&d, mine won't do cd-r either for that matter. well at least i have the car had some functionality problems - was sticking or jumping on the dual layer change, not recognizing the disks on the display, thing like that. i got it in on the last day of the 1 yr. warranty. could your friend get u a deal on an extended warranty? only 1 i've ever owned. still pretty satisfied though it still has some quirks - like the tray not opening til the second try. sony did have a service center nearby which was nice. would be even nicer to have a 2 yr or more warranty standard.
  19. just run a rca interconnect from the sub out of the receiver to the lfe in of the sp. if u only have 1 sub out use a Y-adapter or w/ the 2 interconnect cables run the other from the lfe out of 1 sp to the lfe in of the other sp. & set your receiver to sub:yes & other settings as the receiver manual indicates are best. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  20. lerajie (or anyone), i'm looking at your denon 4800 for a new a/v receiver but trying to figure out how it hooks up for my optional various speaker set-ups. i assume (maybe wrong) that i'd have to use the effects preouts & a seperate amp to hook up & use direct rear surrounds. it looks like you're not using the effects channels though. are u hooking the rs & direct rear speaks to the A & B surround speaker connects then switching between them for HT vs. music? sorry if this assumption is wrong - maybe that adcom switch allows u to use the effects preouts to the direct rears(?). if i wanted to use only the direct speakers when playing music for like 5 channel stereo, but use both them & a dipole (like the new rs-7) for HT (7.1 surround), is this possible w/ the denon - i.e., could i hook up the cornwalls as rear surrounds w/ another amp & then of course the surrounds (rs-7) to the A surround speaker connects. then in the different sound modes u can select to turn the A surrounds on or off? whew, this 7.1 is something & all the receivers seem to have those different features thanks! ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!

  22. yea u should hear quite a dif when u move the LP crossover.
  23. have u tried the dealer locator to the left? i would think boston's gotta have others besides tweet, who i've heard won't bargain hardly at all. maybe they have an exclusive there though. beware - the internet dealers are not authorized under klipsch policy, so u have no warranty unless they're authorized to sell over the net in their specific areas. mail order was a possibility, but hear some of those are being esstoped from selling outside their ares. this is a big ongoing issue on this bb - long threads on it under home theter & general. good luck.
  24. the 301's gotta be some of the most inefficient on the mkt. sorry, but are u also looking for a center? the ss-1 & sc-1 look to be best & they're even still avilable new i think
  25. yea mine definitely does not. sony does have some newer models that do though. watch out for sony though - had some problems w/ mine. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
