  1. yea the velcro tabs on the grills would stay stuck to the receptors & pull off when I removed the grills at times (to admire those lovely drivers super glue did the trick for awhile, but the cloth started pulling loose & got somewhat raggy. got them recovered in that newer mesh black from klipsch by a local framing shop for $100. refinished the cabinets in cherry for $150. like the look a lot. like the look of black grilles w/ brown/tan wood too. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  2. rw, the 18 arrived today! man what a monster! don't realize how much bigger in size it is til it's sitting in your living room. it is the definitely the ticket already. much more impact - very noticeable. yet still just as tight as the 15 & even seems "quicker" - don't let anyone tell u an 18" is "too slow". it's the loudness that counts & the added db blends perfect w/ those loud rf-3. when it burns in a lil, I may even up the output from 3 to 5 interesting w/ this unit, w/ the output control all the way down, it does nothing. thought it was DOA. but as soon as I moved the control just like one notch man did it come to life. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  3. still just can't figure out why the cornwall would be discontinued for more streamline design. maybe it was just 2 good of a value for US (& not for klipsch). ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  4. from his past advice, bobg of klipsch was/is? a proponent of using a center sub. w/ most receivers you'd pass thru the sub to your kv using speaker level. though if u're receiver has center pre-outs, u might go w/ line level connection. if that's the case i don't see why u couldn't run line level from the center preout to sub, then speaker level from the sub to the center speak. should work (?)
  5. it looks like w/ your receiver you'd only get a dolby prologic mix using the dsp modes for cd music (which gives a synthetic center channel which blends the L & R). i don't like that for music CDs (unnatural sounding) so for that i just go w/ stereo mode not using the center & rears. but the 5.1 dsp modes are great for HT & music DVD (like Eagles Hell Freezes Over in DTS). so it depends if the added cost would be worth that capability for u then.
  6. al, not unless u have or plan on getting an a/v receiver or set-up (5.1 channels or more w/ decoders). & then i'd say only if that has a 5 or more channel stereo feature. because I don't have, for music, I usually only use my fronts & sub only. what's that other 20% used for? ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  7. jimg, do u have the total cabinet dimensions on the new 5 & 7 yet? especially the widths. also, does the rf-3 use a tapered array currently? the bottom woof seems to play the lower bass... or is just that only the bottom woof is ported? thanks for da info.
  8. sorry jhawk - i'm a displaced cyclone & i'm even dating an MU girl good game though & i'm worried about this sat. if i get that cable amp i'll let u know. the cable co. wants to sell 1 to me for $40 installed. you'd think that would work good, but ???
  9. on the florida cornwall on ebay that black grille cloth looks just like that I got from klipsch last spring, so it definitely looks like a recover job. i always thought the "official" cornwall II debuted in '86. but read a bobg post somehwere on here that said somewhere around '84. maybe he was just approximating or thinking of when they started using the plastic driver on the I.
  10. yea hool, I eventually self-determined that it's not the speaker, it's the source - my sony receiver and/or the program material. i also get it w/ DD prologic programs from the dig cable box. turning down the effect setting on my sony receiver seems to help a lot. bet you've never got it w/ a dvd in DTS. those crystal for me. so i think it's a combo of DD material w/ 2much effect gain. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  11. jeff, that's wild. i wondered how to read those #s specifically 2. it looks like they made the change in between ours, though 489th day of '84 for yours doesn't seem to jive???. so if the true II started in '84, wonder what the 1st ser# on that was? so i guess if metal i have the k-55 like u said (funny though klipsch shows k-52 for midrange driver for cornwall on their parts list - something wrong there). i give up. is there a book for like the history of klipsch? my corn I sound great though!
  12. wait my mistake jc. they're '84s (8407377&78). still they have the metal squak & tweet (same as the khorn & lascala at the time anyway). i thought the plastic front mounted weren't used until the II in '86 (?). i had mine refinished in cherry by a 3rd party for $150. great deal, but took over 1 month. oh & that sounds about right stu. i originally got mine raw i believe around $1200 & they were i think like $1800 or so w/ a cherry finish.
  13. thanks that was it k-33 $100 ea. trying to get some foam sealer gaskets for them.
  14. jc, had the backs off when I replaced both woofs (blown by bad amp), but sorry all I know is both the mid & tweet horns are metal.
  15. oh & jc, my cornwall I (I think) are 1982 & i recently had the grilles recovered w/ black cloth sent from klipsch for that purpose (look great w/ the new cherry finish). anyway, sounds like that mesh u saw may have been a recover job w/ this newer klipsch cloth. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  16. ok, now wmaster, could u let this thread (& the 1 on same subject under general) slide on down the line-up???? THANKS!
  17. cornwall II before 1986??? greta, that's a new 1 on me - then again that don't take much now i'm not sure what I have - I or old IIs guess i'll have to look @ the serial if i can even see it under all the new stain ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  18. anyone know the part# for the woofer klipsch now uses for replacement on the Cornwall I circa 1982? don't see anything on the parts list for a Corn I woof. thanks much.
  19. jhawk, (how bout them cyclones i have the same problem w/ time warner. my guess is that the cable cos. are sacrficing their limited bandwidth for the analog channels to get better results w/ their digital channels. even time warner suggests now if u have 3 or more tvs to use that amplifier. don't know if i'll go to the trouble now or wait for them to get better though. good luck. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  20. sorry, but to not reinvent the wheel - there are numerous posts if u do a search (above) on biwiring or bi-wiring under like tech questions or home theater...
  21. yea definitely don't get a low-priced sony (i.e., light amps/low current). look for good amperage besides watt output. seen those smaller denons for <$300 - even like @ sears. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  22. tka, curious why u would downgrade from the denon (wish i had it). for $ reasons? ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
  23. yo, jd, sound like many of us have been down similar paths to true hi-fi. i forgot to mention that my first real system was the bose 301s w/ something like a pioneer qx-747 quad receiver. at 13, couldn't afford 2 more speaks or even a turntable w/ a quad cartridge. do still have the 1 quad album I could afford - Tull, aqualung. sold the 301s to a friend after just a few months. talk about a dead sounding speak (& of course the dr tweets blew 1st. sold the pioneer to my brother. then went mail order w/ a package from Wherehouse Sound Co. in San Luis Obispo, CA. sansui integrated amp, EV bookshelf speaks, & a garrard turntable. big improvement & the rest is history. ------------------ RF-3 (front), RC-3, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-15 sub Monsterbass 400 sub cables & Monster Z-12 speak wire Sony de935 a/v receiver Sony DVP-C650D dvdp Sony Trinitron 27" tv Technics dual cassette deck Technics direct drive turntable Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box rock on!
