  1. for thx/dolby ex 7.1 the rear surround is matrixed from the same material as the discrete RS & LS channels. i don't know about the advanced steering per se but it must be using some delay for effect. i use a single rear center for that "6th"channel & don't have that problem as its using material totally discrete from the FC channel. i'd have to be pretty convinced that the sound using 2 speaks for rear surround would make that much dif to spend the extra money & most of all going to that trouble to set it up. do have thx ultra so maybe will give it a try some day.
  2. gil, what you mean by "compromise w/ direct radiators"? directs like say the rf-3, rb-5, or rc-3 use the same or timbre-wise the same horns. but as far as timbre goes i would think a better case is made for directs, because, well, the sound is direct & not dispersed/reflected. that's the other thing, besides matching drivers, that affects timbre to the ear. the room & where the sound is coming from in relation to the ear position. iow, you could have the exact same speakers in front & rear of the room, but the timbre won't be exactly matched because of their location & the room. no biggy, but that's another variable for timbre. but that's a given. still best to use matching speaks when possible.
  3. ar, yeah like "vanilla sky" was done by cameron crowe (americanized) from the foreign/spanish "open your eyes". in this case i liked crowe's version w/ the soundtrack & all much better, but he did stick to the story pretty much. that had to be the most complicated plot i've seen. in fact it relied just a bit much on subjective interpretation imho. i've watched both several times & its still subjective for me. though I have my theories.
  4. clu, its at the end of the disc, after quite a long pause. just fast forward & you'll hear it start. or if you're using vinyl put the turntable on 78 rpm. not saying its the most pleasant tune though.
  5. that www.dvdpricesearch.com uses most of the above. like mike, i've found www.deepdiscountdvd.com generally has the best deals as long as they have it in stock.
  6. dan, the confusion comes by the use of the terms by the industry. they may call it 7.1 but the two rear surround carry the same info. so you could just as well use only one rear surround (a rear center) w/ no downmixing. then there's those formats that use a matrixed rear surround channel like dolby ex & dts es 6.1 matrix, & a discrete rear surround such as w/ dts es 6.1 discrete. check out the tech info at www.dolby.com & www.dtsonline.com for all the details.
  7. this is probably a given, but on nirvana's "nevermind". at the end after a long gap (unless you FF ).
  8. a tweeter in a sub? what the...? is that for heat dissipation or does the sub have voice feedback?
  9. for movies you may want to check out the other BB - blockbuster - or other rental stores. i got a previously viewed "we were soldiers" there the other day. only $9.99 & instant gratification.
  10. ar, that's the thing. many times they start out as indy but if they're good at say a festival like sundance or in limited theater distribution, a major studio may then pick them up. then you get the mass & dvd/video distribution. so i guess an indy for these purposes means independently written & produced. so most foreign flicks would also fall in that category. there i've heard that "the closet" from france is real good & funny, but don't know if its out on dvd yet.
  11. no, i'm no computer guru. just that the w-master posted all the old avatars in the web section. http://forums.klipsch.com/idealbb/oldavatars/elf.gif
  12. ken, i don't know why either & w/ getting more output too on those other subs. but for me w/ the wake-up it just does for me. even mentions it in the manual to do it for this. try getting the schematics from the makers to see why. i did & didn't on the ksw. one of those things like biwiring that if it just cost a couple bucks to do it then might as well if it don't sound any worse.
  13. "what is the best place to get it?" don't ask me. last time i recommended the lowest cost site for HE they messed up his order & i felt like a smuck. may u want to run it through on 1 of them cd price scanners.
  14. i still think the mixer could have leaned on the sub-1st-octave slide control for more input db there. but no its not because i don't have enough low bass w/ my set-up. if i crank the overall volume up to the 115db there's more than enough low bass from the pipe organ. maybe i need a preset on my pre/pro that boosts the sub output only for this or other low bass fests where the mixer doesn't meet my tastes. believe it will boost as low as the range around 20hz.
  15. "connected the wires only to the LF post, thus the horn/tweeter was not being used." good thing. if you were clipping the woofs imagine what that would have done to the tweet horn. think your rf-7s will be fine when you get a real amp though.
  16. m00n, 4 rs-7 on the sides is great. though i wouldn't know if anything sounded better w/o some experimenting in your room & then that would be for my ears, not yours. i'm just glad you got the rc-7 for rear center. another rs-7 there would not have been as good there imho for reasons i listed before. ears, yes i have both rf & klf, & think you really need to re-examine the klf-30 or cornwalls. smoother mids, & i think have ears written all over them w/ that killer slam (30s). though i must admit the 30s are what i call "clearer" on the highs. some may call it bright or harsh, but not so to my ears.
  17. i think what we have here is a low powered amp being over driven to clipping. that could damage your speak's tweeter voice coils more than anything. ok to use a low power amp, but not ok to drive it to clipping. best to use a high power amp to avoid clipping when you want louder.
  18. i think we're talking 1 sub here. i'd run a connect from one of the sub outs & use a Y-adapter to both line inputs of the sub. many w/ svs & klipsch subs (including the klipsch guys on the ksw) say that it does indeed add some output. doesn't w/ my velo sub, but i've found hooking up both of this sub's inputs w/ a Y-adapter does make it wake-up form auto-standby more readily.
  19. ken, just an indy at 1st & you've probably seen it, but Reservoir Dogs comes to mind. same w/ Sling Blade by billybob.
  20. w/ the avia disk to get sub output you have to have speaks set small. iow, its after the dsp & relies on it & speaks small to get any sub output. that's what i was getting at w/ the HK - if the tones rely on the dsp then you have to have speaks set small to get a sub tone. maybe? of course most should have speaks set small w/ an adequate sub anyway. unless they want to use the sub for lfe only. & prod the avia disk doesn't use lfe channel .1 for its sub test. unless they've corrected that in recent additions from mine. that's one gripe of mine on avia. since i got the b&k pre/pro i use it for audio calibration & use the avia only for video calibration to the dvdp.
  21. prod, probably best to call B&K at 800-543-5252, ask for tech support. preferably jerry.
  22. op, do you have all your speakers set to small in the HK when you do the tones?
  23. hey m00n sounds great. but to set the record straight i was never against wdst as surround. & your siggy to be more tech correct should be Surround:RS-7(4) & "Rear Center:RC-7".
  24. & remember cats are just pigmy lions that patronize human beings.
