  1. RB, I haven't done it yet. Being an obsessive/compulsive anal retentive audiophile, I am troubled by the thought of sound resonating around in there, but I'm also a little uncomfortable with the idea of just stuffing wads of polyfil in there. I'd like it to be neat and tidy. I don't want it trying to fall out the back of the speaker while I'm moving it back into the corner. Maybe the precut squares would be the way to go. It costs more that way, though. ...man i really need to get out more.
  2. Oooooosting! This is beginning to sound like a "vast right wing conspiracy". LOL Oh yeah, JJT - better lock down your women folk too, while yer at it. bubba is takin' it to the streets.
  3. mrtrain, Like boa said, I would try a front corner first and work from there. But I would recommend experimenting. And the lower the X/O from the sub, the more freedom you'll probably have with placement. ------------------ JDMcCall
  4. I saw queen hillary on fox news tonight at some kind of a public forum. As the camera followed her (as cameras are much too prone to do), I swear she passed by an "industrial" heresy on a tall stand. I just saw a glimpse of it, as madam rotweiller-clinton (sp) consumes significant amounts of frame. It appeared to be perhaps an unfinished birch as it was very light with no discernable grain. The drivers, being "nude" were the give-away. Large woof with horn mid and horn tweet. Cool. Perhaps ol' Hil isn't all bad after all!
  5. Hey buddy, get in line. The online klipsch store could and should carry stuff like that. But they don't as far as I've seen. klipsch, you listening? HELLO!s>
  6. As a former cornwall owner, I second that emotion.
  7. "where do I find "Dope from Hope"?s>Uh, I think he and his wife moved to New York. -- Blind Melon McCall
  8. This bb is the greatest! I've learned a lot about klipsch speakers on here. Some things I thought I knew turned out to not be so, as with the belle/la scala mid horn. I always thought they were the same. I was just going by the klipsch lit. that says they use the same driver. I never considered that the horn itself might be different. duh. -Homer McCall
  9. "Verry interestink" - Col. Klink -------------------------- I've always liked the Acurus and Aragon lines. Acurus especially, has always seemed to offer good value. I'll have to give Acurus a good look when I can upgrade to discrete surround music. (come on lotto!) I've always been interested in the idea of an "All American" audio rig. ------------------ JDMcCall
  10. Great gobblin' horn dogs, Ray! Seems like a good move - just hope they will keep Acurus affordable. I've always thought their stuff offered excellent value. Hmm... Acurus and Klipsch; MOSFETS and HORNS; All American system... Could be highly desirable! ------------------ JDMcCall
  11. quote: Originally posted by jhawk92: Ah, I see, now I understand. Well, I did see one of the large (4 ft) banners that Klipsch made on eBay a while back. Would have looked nice in the den...got outbid at the last minute. Well, maybe another will surface... Yeah, now that's the ticket! I'd listen to Boseys for a week for a prize like that. And I can remember seeing some really cool posters on the walls of the "House Of Sound" (defunct Springfield, MO klipsch emporium) back in the '70s and '80s that I'd kiss a goat for. The only klipsch goody I have -- and I haven't been able to find it since we moved -- is an autographed PWK 8X10 that the dealer gave me when I bought my speakers. ------------------ JDMcCall
  12. Whoa! Hold on here cowpokes. I believe I got me some 'splainin' to do. Pull up a stump and give me a listen --s> I humbly apologize for the misunderstanding, but I gots NADA, ZILCH, ya know? I was only trying to see if anybody was interested in being able to get some of the stuff I mentioned. I was hopin' that maybe the powers that be at klipsch & associates would take some notice and maybe make some neat stuff available to the loonies like ya'll -- and me! So -- I ARE SORRY!s>[] Please forgive this lowly horn-dawg. ------------------ JDMcCall
  13. Sony or Sony ES. Good Stuff, Maynard! ------------------ JDMcCall
  14. Can't help you much as I've never really A/B'd the two speakers, but I do know they use the same drivers and X/O, and have precisely the same performance specs. It does seem logical to me though, that they MIGHT sound a little different through the woofer range due to the slightly different cabinet dimensions. As for the cornwall II comparison, I'd say it would ultimately just be a matter of preference, but I would think most people would like the belle/la scala better due to the higher sensitivity and to the superior midrange unit. ------------------ JDMcCall
  15. I think amplifier power is like money - you can never have too much, but also like money, it can't buy happiness! I do believe that with high effeciency, revealing speakers like most klipsch models, that quality of power is more important that quantity. Like the saying goes, if the first watt sucks, why would you want 200 more just like it? Regarding the use of tone controls, I say if it sounds good - do it! In my previous room I got by just fine bypassing them, but my current room is more lively and seems to benefit with a slight nudge - about a 3 dB boost at 100 hz. ------------------ JDMcCall

Yo! Soul Brother! Owned a pair of "New" Advents (brilliant moniker). First real hifi speakers I ever bought, excluding a couple of not-that-bads from Radio Shack. Bose Boob -- GUILTY (901-IVs) Ah, The Heil AMT! Now that was a speaker! Bought a pair from Burstein-Applebee in KC MO in the late 70's. Really nice sounding speakers, but I kept melting the little ribbon diaphram in the "air motion transformer" (cool moniker!) Then blew a woofer cranking Fleetwood Mac. I sold them to my brother-in-law and finally got some real LOUDSPEAKERS -s> - Klipsch Cornwallss> Ah. happy audio boy. ------------------ JDMcCall
  17. Bose 901 Serie IVs> Very impressive to the rookie audiophile, but soon reveal themselves to be the very antithesis of "high fidelity". ------------------ JDMcCall

  19. Do you already have a DVD (video) player in your home theatre? If not, it seems the machine you bought would be good in there, assuming it does also have full video capabilities. As for a CD player in the price range you mentioned, I'd sure give a good look at a Sony ES; specifically the CDP-XA20ES. I've got a Sony CDP-X33ES that I bought in '90. It is used in my gonzo audio room and has really been a superb performer without a bit of trouble. Still operates as smoothly and quietly as when it was new. At this point, I fully expect that it'll stay in my system until SACD and/or DVD-Audio become firmly established. Over the years, I have read a boat load of CD player reviews. Sony ES machines have consistently been stellar performers on the test bench and in the music room. ------------------ JDMcCall
  20. I'll bet a lot of the looneys on here would be willing to part with the green for a few reprints of some of the promotional material klipsch has used over the years. They'd look great on the walls of our music rooms/home theatres. Specifically that for the heritage speakers. I'm talkin' about those posters we all used to see at the hi-fi huts, and heck, even enlargements of some of their print ads, suitable for framing, of course. So, how about it? ------------------ JDMcCall
  21. Audio performance aside, one of the things that really attracted me to the heritage line is their...heritage. I think that is also directly related to their high resale value. You see it all the time; this years model is the latest and the greatest, only to be replaced by next years latest and greatest. Even klipsch has succumbed to this kind of new, newer, newest approach to marketing. Gotta have something NEW to hawk. Thank God and PWK that the heritage line still lives on, with the exception of the cornwall, which is MIA. But, to more directly address your question; no, I don't think the KLFs will hold their value as well as the heritage line, but I'd bet they'll hold it better than most other speakers out there, simply because they do say "Klipsch" on the front, and they .have been in the lineup for a number of years now. I think they are great performers and I would like to see them remain in the lineup, and I'd even like to see the line expanded. (How about a KLF-40 or KLF-50, with even more woofage?) ------------------ JDMcCall
  22. Maybe it's just me, but something about that klipschorn picture makes me want to sacrifice a virgin.
  23. quote: Originally posted by drobo1: Quality multichannel music playback is years away until somebody like Chesky does it right beginning in the recording phase. Currently multichannel is a marketing gimmick. drobo I wish I could say I thought you were wrong here, but unfortunately I have to think you're probably on the money. Practically every review of multi-channel music I've seen, whether DVD-A, or DTS or Dolby Digital DVD seems to fall into that gimmick category, with unrealistic (if not absurd) placement of sources in the surround channels. YYYYYeccchh!! I am so pumped by the potential of multi-channel, and yet so frustrated by the reality of it. That SCD-1 does appear to be a real piece of work! I'd love to hear one sometime. ------------------ JDMcCall
  24. Bigger is better, but more importantly, and especially if you are building or remodeling, you need to try not to have any two room dimensions that are identical, or that are multiples. This will spread out the room resonances, avoiding pile-ups at one particular frequency. The absolute worst room for music would be a small, square room. ------------------ JDMcCall
  25. Thank you, Oh mighty wizards! As I am elctronically challenged, the ideas expressed are very helpfull. Not long ago, I was seeing "passive home theater" boxes being sold at close-out prices at many of the electronics mail order outfits. (Dynaco and Chase Tech. were the brand names) I think the Dynaco derived 5 channels from a 2 channel input at speaker level. I almost ordered one for $20.00, but figured it would soon be rendered unnecessary by SACD and/or DVD-Audio. This was probably two years ago. It seems the Chase box worked at line level, requiring a separate amp for the center output. My question is; does anybody have any experience with these things? Know where they may still be available? Inquiring minds want to know. ------------------ JDMcCall
