  1. Minimally, I think they should have rounded the side edges of the bass bin to echo the top bin & trims. Even a simple bull-nose to carry it down.
  2. "A hard-hitting kick drum is phenomenal" This alone is INCREDIBLY important to me. It looks like we're going to check them out (not purchase) on Saturday. I don't think they'll be able to be cranked which is a tad of a concern. Mostly because of this 'rattle' issue I read about. Not sure if I can tell without cranking. Jeff - LOL!!! Piece of cake. There must have been really bad drugs going around in the late 50's. I can't even fathom their thought processes when they built this house. We're on an acre of land and the friggin' garage is wide enough for 2 cars IF you walk sideways to get to them with the result of dirty clothes from semi-rubbing against the cars! But to redo this area is going to need a serious construction crew.
  3. Duke - That's exactly what I think would be perfect. Cornwall bass & LaScala upper end. Cornwalls were my initial desire (esp. decorators) because of everyone's comments about their great bass (a rock the house down type of speaker). Didn't even entertain the thought of Khorns (size-wise, and also read some negatives on their bass which now is unfathomable to me). Then I found the khorns. LOVE them! But we'd like to create a 'system'. I envisioned Chorus II, Forte, KLF-30 (smaller footprint types) for surrounds, but I question how they'll go with the khorns. The Cornwalls have always called to me despite never hearing them. We also plan to remodel our ranch house (god only knows when cuz we're far from minted) by opening it up and plan both an open large kitchen/dining/family room set up as well as a separate living room on the other end for the major ht set up. Hence, I'll need another set of mains. I of course envision another set of khorns. Finding another pair locally may take years. Even Cornwalls. Especially with Mr. Corvette in my midst who seems to be striving to take Mr. Colter's crown. It's just a REALLY tight fit over here and if this one darned wall wasn't structural, I'd be at it with a sledgehammer as I speak. A '78 birch pair of local LaScalas have been offered to me & I'm trying to sort everything out in my head. My gut says to get them and figure everything out later. I agonized over the khorns too (never heard them before) and now I think to myself 'WTH was I vascillating for'? I just wonder if the LaScalas would be in the same 'no-brainer' camp. Hmmmmm
  4. Unplugged DVD? From MTV years back? I remember watching that. Such great vocals. Is that it Sunburn? I may have to get that. I'm surprised they aren't being re-run.
  5. Well, what if one were to use them as surrounds for khorns for 5:1? I would think they'd go well. Yes? Or, what would go with Khorns? It would be nice to find something shallower size-wise, but I question anything else matching them properly. Belles are out of the question as they go for mega bucks.
  6. Another. http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Klipschorn-Khorn-corner-speakers-BIG-BASS_W0QQitemZ5856295239QQcategoryZ61378QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Copied pic & SN from the old $5500 MI auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Klipschorn-Khorn-corner-speakers-BIG-BASS_W0QQitemZ5847596717QQcategoryZ61378QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem The report button in powersellers isn't working for me right now.
  7. I like how the grill cloth wraps around at the top. Not a big fan of the vertical black band though. I imagine it couldn't be removed. That it's inset or covering a gap/veneer seam. I'd like it better if the stripe was wood in a tone to match the lacewood? Would make it less 'deco-ish'. OK - I want them!
  8. He's back. Can someone report him? I've GOT to get to the store. http://cgi.ebay.com/World-renown-Klipsch-Corner-Horns-remarkably-uncommon_W0QQitemZ5657793197QQcategoryZ36458QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  9. Well, the MI pair went for $5500 http://cgi.ebay.com/Klipsch-Klipschorn-Khorn-corner-speakers-BIG-BASS_W0QQitemZ5847596717QQcategoryZ61378QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem The one before that, $3050 (really muddy looking)
  10. Hatrick - About how long did it take you to find the Cornwalls?
  11. Moot. As in 'the issue is moot'. Though.... http://www.randomhouse.com/wotd/index.pperl?date=20010319
  12. There ya go! That's what I'm talking about. Very nice! Jeff - the copper colored cones are nice, but the problem is the black around them & various protrusions. Would much rather have the sleek look in a pretty veneer like the above pic. I saw a pretty pair of 'decorator' Cornwalls listed FS somewhere last week that were re-veneered. Stunning.
  13. But if khorns go down to 32-33 and the LaScalas go to 50hz, isn't that a VAST difference to the ears? IDK enough about these numbers to know, but isn't that quite a large gap? And, if the LaScalas have the same woofer as khorns - their less deep bass is due to their bass bin structure - yes? Are there any tweaks (x-overs, etc) that would enable them to go a bit lower? Or is that 'it'?
  14. Do Heresys come in 'decorator' style? I really like that look.
  15. Frz - You sound like you have a dream setup! I can't even imagine how good it must sound. Any chance you have some pics laying around? Would love to see it. Interesting comments so far. Pretty positive. Hmmm.... It's just that I'm a bass freek so I fear being dissapointed. Then again, getting a sub down the road wouldn't be the end of the world. Still, its nice to have it one package.
  16. Jeff - are they all the same model/color and vintage? If so, that's interesting. And IMO, worth something. So - when are you going to buy them so you can show us the pics? []
  17. (gosh I wish the search function worked better)... I have a few LaScala questions. I've read MANY posts saying they are lacking in the bass department. And there is no comparison to Khorns, Cornwalls, Chorus, etc. And one needs a sub. OK fine - but is it 'tolerable'? If I heard LS's, would I say 'OMG, the bass s*cks!"? Assuming what I've been reading is correct and they are weak in bass, how are the mids/highs? I would think they'd sound great and similar to Khorns? I'm curious how they can be described compared to other Klipsch. One more question... Can LS's be pushed up against a wall? Or should they be away a bit & if so, about how much is optimal? Thanks!
  18. Instant home theatre. What type of wood/color? PM me if there's any leftovers!
  19. I figured you were up to something. You've been oddly quiet the last day or so.
  20. OK. You know in the movie 'Moonstruck' when Cher slaps what's-his-name across the face and says "Snap out of it" ???? That's kind of what I'd like to do to you right now. Will you please go buy those speakers already? []
  21. UPS will most always say the package wasn't properly padded, etc. as their first line of defence. You have to push it and insist the box was designed for shipping, etc. I always handle any claims for things I sell for the buyer. I think it has more import. Never lost one yet. I'd fight that one for sure.
