  1. Comcast refused to give me the box unless they installed it. I fought with them for 3 days on it based on principle because they charge a fee for it. At the end, it was either pay the fee and have them install it, or I got nothing. I'm not done with them and WILL get that fee back some day. You are lucky. The manuals say nothing about it because it's assumed the tech would have done the install and the appropriate settings. It's the first thing they do when everything's plugged in. They go to that menu and set it right. If it's on the wrong setting, it won't work and you'll get a jumbled screen. Did you not try to go into this service menu? I've had 3 friends call me with said issue when they got their box. They had no instructions on this service menu setting or how to get into it. They fixed it. Seems your box isn't talking to your TV. This of course may not be your problem, but it wouldn't hurt to try.
  2. (((Bruce))) - I'm so very sorry. Please try to take good care of yourself right now.
  3. I have never, not even remotely, said that the khorns sounds as good as with any other amp. High powered or otherwise. Didn't happen. Didn't say it. All I'm saying is we don't hear any loss of anything when turned loud. It just sounds louder. Period. That's a fact. We do not hear any of the things you insist is happening. Now you say it's there & we just don't hear it which is facinating really. And easy in a spirited discussion as it leaves an open end. But stating we are missing something & don't know it.... That is NOT a fact. Because you're not here. Hence, it's mere assumption on your part. Can you send me data that proves bad things are happening with my amp in my room when I crank it? No. Thus mere assumption & speculation. About the locksmith story? You just proved my point. Unless I'd been in the home or lived in the building - I would have checked for the backdoor no matter what cr*pola was floating around in my brain to think it didn't exist. And checked on short order. Despite BELIEVEING it didn't exist. You assumed none and made it a fact in your head. Not a good thing. Actually, kinda sounds like a pig-headed thing to do. Meagain - Out
  4. King Crimson - 'The Power to Believe' album.
  5. A pink bow would have worked for me, but I'll let you slide.
  6. Jeff - You indeed said most emphatically on the other thread that because my amp was 65 wpc w/a peak of 85, that when I crank it REALY loud - I'm hearing a loss of dynamics and everything will even out and become muddled. That it sounds crappy loud. That the louder I crank it, the lousier it sounds. Period. Wow - You said it here above again. Now you are saying that I'm just not hearing it. How do you know what I can hear or not? How the heck do you know what's happening in my listening room without being here? You are honestly telling me (and beyond assuming) that I (who is mega anal & picky) and my husband who is a musician cannot TELL we are listening to crap and losing all kinds of stuff (lack of 'dynamics', etc.?). But most importantly, even if we didn't - You don't KNOW this because you're not here. You are stating a hypothetical as a fact. There is nothing muddled on high volumes. There is no lack of dynamics at high volumes. You are not here. What my issues are with my new khorn purchase span across the board. The issues are there at soft volumes and when louder, they are just - Louder. You are merely speculating & assuming at this point. Trust me, I'm going to be hauling in every bit of testing/analyzing equipment, amps, etc. that I can get my hands on. I contend that if there's anything wrong with my amp - it would be quality issues at all volumes. Not mere lack of mega WPC causing the issues. If it sounded pristine at mega volumes - would I crank it higher than a certain level? No. Can the speakers go louder? Probably. But that doesn't mean I missing out on anything. I didn't buy these because they can go loud (tho a bonus). Nor did I buy them as a PA to toss sound across a football field. I bought them because they have a rep of being a good quality speak at ANY volume. And that's why I invested the cash in them.
  7. This paragraph contradicts itself. Loud volumes won't damage ears if not rackety. But then you say you can CAN go too loud for damage to occur. Trust me - I don't care how pure & clean the sound is, if physically loud enough - It will damage the ears. And no, it doesn't have to involve pain. Take a non-swimmer, non-floater in deep water. Drowning will occur in pure clear water same as in a muddy river. It's still drowning, though drowning in pure clear water in a barrier reef might be more entertaining & a better death.
  8. Tom - Well, I was assuming we were talking about music. What wpc are you running for that that you are able to crank it cleanly? Mega watts or low? I just question HAVING to have a 300+ amp to run khorns, etc. to be able to crank it very loud and still have it clean. Jeff's saying because I have a 65 wpc with 85 peak - that because of that sole number - there's no doubt I'm losing 'dynamics' - everything is getting muddled together and even getting clipping. We're just not hearing it and he's telling me these things are happening whether I hear it or not. And I should ditch my current amp and get one with mega watts in order to be able to do something I think I'm already attaining? And trust me - I'm cranking it. It just sounds like a louder version of softer. I'm just scratching my head about it. Is there anyone here with low watts that can't crank the better Klipsches without losing quality?
  9. Jeff - You seem to be saying emphatically that those here without high wpc (300+) cannot crank it because they lose 'dynamics' and hence it sounds bad at very loud levels. Do you not think that it's even remotely possible you are wrong until you've visited every member's listening room? Isn't it possible that they (maybe not all) very well CAN turn it up loud and ALSO retain quality and/or dynamics? It just seems to me that most here are pretty savvy & probably have good ears and I would think they would be able to tell the difference or admit to not being able to crank it cleanly? I'm willing to bet money that those with less 300+ WPC, etc. can indeed crank it without losting quality & your dynamics. I mean, we don't even know for sure if there will be a tomorrow - so to issue such a blanket statement of fact just doesn't seem what a thinking person would do. I mean, this may have been the case with your particular gear you've used to historically test this - but this doesn't necessarily mean it's fact to everyone out there.
  10. "nonsense" Perhaps your Heresy's were sounding perfect to you. The sound I have is not acceptable and I'm not going to live with that. Certainly not for THREE years? LOL I'd rather take a bullet to the head. That's just plain crazy. Why would anyone do that purposefully? They wouldn't, unless they had zero means to attain improvement. And trust me, blaming soley I for this thread jumping around and turning into 21 pages would indeed be misguided. I know exactly how I would fault them. Can I put it into words each person might relate to perfectly? Probably not, but that doesn't mean I don't know what I've a problem with. I actually felt I explained it pretty well. And it's not acceptable. Doing nothing will not fix it. Doing nothing is illogical. Current acceptance is not an option.
  11. Yes, I read that and it's not an option. Listen and ignore the issues? Listen and pretend they don't exist? Listen long enough till I get used to it (not going to happen) or I trick myself that it went away? And if I do this for 3 months - the issues might magically be better or go away? All without doing anything? LOL Sure - piece of cake. Would it be an option for any of you? Would that be acceptable to you? Heck no.
  12. Weird. It sounds like you didn't have them install it for you? On my Moto 6412? dual tuner dvr, I had some issues. There's a menu/setup area that can be gotten into by powering off on the remote then hitting the menu button. On mine, and friends, one must press that menu button a few times to get the menu. Mines' set to 1080i, and override off. If I set it to 1080p? (I think), I get all kinds of weirdness. Just a thought - maybe they're not talking to each other properly. Not setup right? Mine's set up thru the dvi. Maybe go over to avsforums? They'd probably be able to help in a matter of minutes.
  13. 3dzapper - Thank you!!! Looking forward to it - It'll be interesting. What are the 3 white cylinders? JPM - []
  14. You went into the 'special' comcast menu where you hold down the menu button to get the menu to select the proper setting?
  15. Jeff - Yes, I'm missing something - but unlike you, I'm not pegging it on one thing based on mere assumption. The fact is, we don't know what my problem is at this point. Maybe your crossovers are in better shape than mine for all we know. Could be the room, setup/position, amp, crossovers/caps, speaker cable - we're only speculating. I'm glad you said above "I think" your amp is deficient. That sits better with me more than "it IS" deficient. Ooops - your last sentence is a definative. LOL - Pretty confident guy huh? We'll see if you're right. Might take a while though. Personally, I think my sound was better before we foamed and they were 1/2-1" from the corners. Changed the speaker wire too. I'm hopeing to replay around with this Friday or Sat when hubby comes home. Question: Can anyone tell me what the bases of these things look like? Are the speaks resting on the entire bottom rim or are there some legs in there or something? It would be nice to put some sort of gliders somewhere to make them more easily moveable. And when snug in the corner, it's a bit trickier to walk them out.
  16. Sunburn - LOL, No, unfortunately, I wasn't the person who scored khorns for $150. That was some other guy. I think they were painted or something but still. My goodness. No, I paid $1800. But it was in driving distance and from a most meticulous & interesting seller (sound engineer/producer). I was worth some of that cash just to see his studios, etc. Anyway - eww, those 2 are indeed crusty. I wish hubby was home to move mine so I can snap a pic. They looked in pretty nice shape to me (or cleaned meticulously). I'm curious what exactly the difference in sound was when you upgraded. And your pic is fine. I blew it up to take a good looksee. I wish there was a pic somewhere which labeled all the parts cuz I've no real clue what I'm looking at. I don't see those oil can thingies on the super AA's. Are those yellow things the replacements for them? The oil can looking things are the capacitors - yes?
  17. I AM listening to very dynamic music. Pin drop to bombastic in one song. I really believe I have enough power here. At least for where we sit in the room. I do feel however, that I might have an issue when we remodel as we're planning an open floorplan situation whereas I'll be walking back far away from the speaks and will require more volume. 3dzapp!!! Wow! Interesting offer for sure. I think this would help immensely (if the caps are one of the most important parts). This would help me learn if it makes a difference as well as drive me into buying a new crossover, etc. Might make me avoid sinking money into refurbishing some parts of my current AA's only to ditch them. Hmmm... Me thinks I'm up for the challenge! I could send the postage cash via Paypal, or whatever you'd like. Gosh - as long as they don't blow up my speaks, this is a great thing! Thank you. You Klipsch people sure are a nice lot! Jeffy - are ya going to do it? Might be good fun. We could start another thread, etc. I think cuz your khorns are older, you might not have AA's currently? What do you have again?
  18. No Jeff - You need to buy them. Order them today. I already know I have a problem. If I put them in, I might still have an issue and not know what to blame. You claim to have great sound so if you put them in - that would be more telling. A true test of them.
  19. Um - I kinda forgot to mention (lately) that I have a cheapo cd/dvd player. Probably cost $100 bucks a couple years ago. Toshiba SD-320V. We were wanting to upgrade anyway. Perhaps it would help things if this was ramped up. BEC - I'm PM'ing you re this cap situation.
  20. Duke, my Khorns are 1981. If I recall, you didn't change your crossovers - right? I have people saying that it won't be much of a difference. Not big. Others say it is. Some say the amp I have is fine, others say it's cr*p and needs to be instantly replaced. Someone shoot me. And I can't even figure out what is wrong in the system? room situation/eq, crossovers, receiver/amp? That's nuts. Are you all saying this is a pure crapshoot? And is there any way to test these 'caps' in the crossover? Or do we assume they are bad just due to age? Don't even know what they are or what they do.
  21. OK Jeff. You win. Send me your Crown to borrow over a weekend and I'll ship it back the following Monday [] You didn't change the 'caps' or anything else on your crossovers?
  22. I was hopeing to avoid buying these $400+ crossovers. And there's some thread floating around that I have to read (a couple actually) where the people had problems with them. Didn't like the effect. That scares the heck out of me. It's been suggested I can try a quick fix by replacing "caps". Inexpensively too. Question: If I invest the cash in new 'caps' - then later change the whole shebang, would I be able to sell the old AA's on Ebay or so? I never see these for sale. Just the new ones. This is kinda getting depressing. I question if I'll ever be able to make them sound great. At least without spending thousands of dollars.
