  1. Prior to today, 126 was my highest. 136.1 is really bad. Somewhere in today's voltage fun, the meter showed low battery. This was somewhere between around between the 130-136 testings. I shut everything off including the TV. Got a new battery and am testing at 120. Now..... would a low battery make the meter read high like that? I find that a bit hard to grasp. So 2 goofy things....... 1. Would a low battery on a meter produce sky high readings? Or, did my volts just go down? I've no clue! 2. I have a Furman voltage regulator now that was just installed about 5 days ago. Mostly, when I test, I can see the results of the regulation. I've been getting very odd numbers here and there to indicate it's not regulating like almost 126. At that number, it should regulate down. Even odder is that I've gotten wall voltage (same circuit) that was LOWER than the Furman. As if the device was ramping UP the volts. Today as well. So about 3 days ago I got high numbers (not regulating), then working ok, then today it goes crazy again. The meter didn't say low battery till today. I saw my tube bias go from .640 to .750 quickly. I figured I got a defective voltage regulator, but now I wonder if it's the meter not working sporadically. I tested today ad nauseum and the bad numbers were consistent. Basically, now I'm just plain confused. Yes I'll be calling the electric company for sure now. If only to leave a paper trail in case my house fries to cover my butt for insurance. Anyone think my meter gave me these readings today and a few days ago? I just can't imagine - but IDK.
  2. Seeing how I got up to 136.1 today, I'd tend to agree with you. My husband is at Rat Shack right now getting a new meter battery or meter. Must be the meter cuz I'd think at 136.1, I'd be smelling smoke? Craig, I can't believe you haven't tried those TungSol Reissues yourself. You sure seem to want to.
  3. Someone around there knows where they are. Band member..... ? You should put this on 2-channel where more people can see it. Yep
  4. Did you send email too I hope?
  5. JTN! Holy sh*t! LOL Your dibs are duly noted. Good luck but prepare yourself emotionally.
  6. Oh - I thought Dean was selling his Industrial Jubilees
  7. I chose that vid because there's not many good ones out there due to their stage sets - dark with purples, etc. so many youtubes (besides having bad sound quality) aren't great visually. No 3-4 chord crap here.
  8. 136.1 Yes... Over One THIRTY six. If ya'll see a house exploding in Northern Illinois on CNN, that would be me. Heading out to Rat Shack to buy a new meter.....
  9. Tonga - Ditto on Perfect Circle's "Thirteenth Step" Pretty album. Most everyone I talk to that's into Tool or PC, doesn't have this album which puzzles me. "Sober"
  10. Mike - The Underwood HiFi mod (Level 1) entails the soldered jacks with the small, wrapped wire. The one that broke somehow. The ones with the lock nuts, thicker wires, etc. is stock Jolida JD-100. They (at least when mine was modded), only modded that pair of jacks. I have no idea how long this one jack had the broken wire cuz for all I know, I always used the stock jacks. I don't remember and just discovered one channel not working when I changed tubes recently when I put the cables there. About this cold solder stuff.... It can look ok but there could be a hairline non-visible crack/break. Now, this would either work or not work - right? It wouldn't work but sound a bit degraded. Either works or doesn't situation - yes? I'll try swapping jacks here and there to see if I hear a difference. I doubt I will but at least it's put back together now. EDIT: I will say when I talked to Jolida the person mentioned getting back gear that had some crazy things done to it aftermarket. Basically said they won't touch it if it's altered or grey market. I asked him about grey market and he told me that they have seen units that merely had the face plate or a copy of the face plate with entirely different guts inside! I'm like.... wow! Way to scare me off from buying used gear in the future. I didn't know this. Can you imagine buying a piece of gear that exteriorly looks appropriate but has fake or crap guts? I'd keel.
  11. Larry - Thanks. So it's a color thing that might indicate a potential cold solder? I told husband about your post and I guess he ran over that area. Did the heat sink thing. Then soldered the break. I cleaned everything really well. Seems to be working perfectly now. Used the 4% silver wire. Awesome! Thanks guys.
  12. It's a bit tricky cuz I bought this used, modded by Underwood HiFi. I talked to both companies. I think it'll be ok. We bought both types of solder.
  13. [] It sure is nice when things come together. I think I'm finally pretty darned happy with my system so I made a signature line of the gear - cuz I'm keeping them! Getting the best sound ever out of the Khorns right now. VRD amps working swimmingly and sound awesome. The highs could be better I think but I'm currently running one k-77-m and one JBL 2404 at once (don't ask). Craig put a "soft-start" feature on the VRDs and I think that really solved the problems I've had with them. I think it's triaged my electrical current issue at least till I got a Voltage regulator. I have very high juice coming to the house sometimes. Sounded great pre-Furman regulator. For all those who yelled at me about my electrical... Yes, I have the mother of all screwy electrical setups. Fuses control odd things. Like the fuse for "Bedroom 1" controls not only the bedroom, but an outlet in another part of the house! I got a Furman voltage Regulator gadget and have all my audio running into it with the Furman plugged into an unused circuit (basically running a lamp 'sometimes') and bonus points - it's actually a grounded outlet. Then I put 15 amp fuses everywhere I felt safe (still have to sort out the fridge/Dishwasher, etc. appliance needs).... So I think I won't blow up the house now. k? So what's up with the JBL 2404 and the special crossover out there? John Albright was it? I was talking to Claude at 'KlipschFest' and my understanding the special crossover does more than just lower the volume on it? Do most people have it who run 2404's? Or is it not necessary?
  14. So then maybe for the above pic, the mix with 2% silver and rosin core is better? I want to do this right cuz the wire is silver and I want this to be done perfectly with the perfect solder. Husband's on the way to Rat Shack now but has his cell phone. Maybe they have some type of cleaning material also. Perhaps we shouldn't do this project. IDK. The jacks are Vampire gold something or other.
  15. Yes, I'm bumping a thread from 2002..... I have to resolder a broken area to jacks on a piece of gear (OK, husband project).... It has silver wire. I was advised to use TRT Wonder Solder. I can't seem to find what properties this stuff has but maybe Radio Shack has the same stuff. They have: 1) Lead-free solder 96% tin/4% silver. 2) Rosin core silver bearing solder 62/36/2% tin/lead/silver Shall I assume the lead-free to be better with using silver wire that's attached to gold port thingies? And, would there be anything special in the way of prep for this? Here's a pic there's a tiny red wire that's broken off the prong thing at the rca jack.
  16. Hey Bob - How does music sound through the speaker (not headphones)? If one wanted to let someone hear a piece of song, is it tolerable at least?
  17. "It just works". Yep. My iMac doesn't make me cry real tears.
  18. If I were a guy, and I had an iPhone..... I'd be pitching a tent right now. Boohooo! I do want a 3g version for my husband though. I fear Edge might drive me nuts for when I steal it from him. Mark - What carrier/service do you have? The hackers say they are scant days from unlocking it. But I guess it'll only work with GSM types which would T-Mobile only (I think). My husband would probably have one by now if we didn't have such a bad Edge experience in the store. Though there is a few videos on www.iphonePOV.com that show the iPhone's Edge vs. a Treo on Sprint's 3g EVDO and the iPhone was either comparable or beat it. This is really throwing me. Clearly in the video, the iPhone was running on Edge. I can't tell ya'll how hard I've been working on hubby to get one in the house. I thought there might be an update from Apple today but no dice. Oh, I read that Walt Mossberg has it on good authority that Flash will be added pretty soon. The phone seems to have the guts inside to pull it off. I have yet to find specifics on if the phone's guts can do 3g via update. Bob - are you experiencing any issues with Edge? I heard they were having some outtages. I wonder if AT&T adequately prepared for the onslaught? Mark - OOOoo! You can get the iPhone now and not activate it. You can just use it for all the other features (Wifi, iPod, etc. etc.). They figured out how to do that to allow synching, etc. w/out the phone piece. Course maybe a 2nd gen will be available in fall.
  19. Bob - Thanks. I don't have an iPod either (yet). I can't even imagine how the world will go crazy over the new iPod. Anyone owning stock today must be really happy! (Yes, I stole my husband's money from the bank account..... ssshhhhh!) I so want a Macbook. I'm waiting a bit. OMG - and Leopard? Hard to wait till October for that baby. Oh yea, and I think Steve is kinda hot too.
  20. I want those coffee mugs that change color. Any hope there?
  21. Bob - How is the sound quality with the iPod through the stock earphones?
  22. I've been meaning to come here to either start a thread or find a thread. Thanks Bob! I've not read all the posts yet, just wanted to say I've been drooling for this since January. I don't have or really need a cell phone but my husband does. Gets it from work as well as the service. Has a simple semi-webish Samsung on Sprint EVDO which he tethers to his laptop when in need. I've been begging him non-stop to do what it takes to get one. Since his company does Sprint, it's a bit tricky. He'd have to turn in his phone, get an iPhone, then pay Sprint, then get reimbursed. A bit tricky. I insisted we go check them out despite both of us being sold on it sight unseen...... It's just as magical in person as in the commercials. God bless Apple. One issue is we did a speed test on his EVDO cell last night and came up with 596 kbps. Compared to the 150-ish avg for the ramped up EDGE, it might be painful to downgrade in speed. Then again, what's worse? A high-speed phone that does the internet so crappily that it's semi-useless? Or a slow iPhone on Edge that does 'real' webpages? There's a video test of a Treo? running 3g EVDO vs. iPhone's EDGE on iPhonePOV.com where the iPhone was basically beating out the 3g. No matter what, I'm going to get one of these bad boys in my house if it kills me! Will be back later to read the thread and ask Bob questions! CONGRATS BOB!
  23. God I love Deadwood. Anyway, what about John From Cincinnati? Also by Milch. It's nice to see most of the Deadwood cast in it and I'm really liking this show. I'm seeing Deadwood in it. It's morphing closer with each episode. The lingo of the crazy lottery winner who bought the hotel - very Deadwood. Bill talking to his parrot - like Swearengen talking to the Indian head.
