[Y] I've been looking to score a unit like this for quite a while now. Don't get upset at the price because it made another forum member very happy. I've had to get all my components used , it's the only way I can really afford this hobby. Do you know this unit? Been serviced at all? Do you recommend a quick stopover at your place before heading south (to Oakland), or should I just listen to it first? Darrell

I think the hoarding instinct was grabbing me (and it was a GOOD price, especially for the Bay Area, I've seen them at $800-1000 on CL). I also live in Oakland and have a pair of '78 Khorns on a tube system (and a pair of Heresies sitting idle). You're more than welcome to come by and listen, and I'd love to see/hear your Corns. shload and dbflash, I have a nice pair of Wrights 3.5s (with a great assortment of tubes!) which I may be willing to sell in the coming weeks. I recently bought joessportster's VRDs for my horns and am waiting to get them from Craig. After a modest audition time I will decide to sell the Wrights or not. I DO love the seductive midrange and sounstage they provide, I just have a very large room to fill and often play rock []! If you guys are interested let me know. Also in this switchout could be a Wright WPL20 (pre-phono) with NOS tubes which may not be a match with the VRDs, I might be going passive w/ separate phono stage if anyone's intested in horse trading!

Mike, looks like I may be going the PP route, we'll see. I've been running 2a3 monos on my khorns and love the sweet midrange, but I'm after more bass and full range sound. I know how much everyone loves the VRDs and just quickly pulled the trigger when they came up for sale. Coytee, Hope was a great small town for my formative years, lots of friendly, laid-back people there. My best friend's older sister worked at K&A in the '70s so I got a few priviledged glimpses into the coolest place to work in Hope. Lots of people had Heresies and Cornwalls. My friend and I threw the best high school graduation party ('77) from a cabin in the woods with his sister's La Scalas on the front porch, playing rock music to the crowd in the warm summer night. Probably frightened every animal within a two mile radius! My graduation present was my first pair of walnut Heresies. I run a pair of '78 Khorns today and am quite proud to tell visitors they were made where I grew up and by a man I went to high school with. Never met Trey (I basically left Hope in '77), but I'll make up a story if you'd like![]

Easy boys, I might be fairly new to the forum (about a year), but some of us read and study things without always adding our 2 cents []. I've been listening to heritage Klipsch longer than most of you, I would guess, (over 30 years []). I grew up in Hope, AR so there's lot's of history there. I've heard them on SS and SET, now it's time for VRDs (on a Wright WPL20 tube pre ). Maybe a BB w/Cream in the future! Craig, let's talk about that checkup.

For us the album was Pink Floyd's "Meddle", especially the "Echoes" track. Long nights spent in a candle lit room that a prevoius inhabitant who was an accomplished muralist had painted especially for such journeys. Flowing ferns in a day-glo orangle background, a stormy night sky on the ceiling, etc. Spider cider was the apertif. You could pick em fresh by the sackfull on the right day, boil them down into small cupfuls........[<)] Genesis "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" also has some very trippy passages. Also "Supper's Ready" on "Foxtrot". They never were the same after Peter left.[]

Thanks Daddy Dee, I do have the Sylvania 40's era chrome top 6sn7s and like them better than the EH and RCAs I've had in that slot. I've only listened to the Sovtek 2a3s, but I'll keep my eyes out for a reasonably priced pair of RCAs. What preamp did you run with your Wrights? I just got a WPL20 from George and am interested in tube rolling in it. BTW, my family is still in Little Rock and I'd love to hear your system next time I'm there (usually about once a year). Guys, I don't want to get this thread too "spun out" but I understood that in my Wright 2a3 monos it was the driver tube (6sn7 in my case) that carried the most sound characteristics. Isn't this the place to do most tube rolling? Darrell

hey Dean, people have been asking me when my new xovers will be "burned in". Didn't know what to say. I didn't baby them like you would with a new car, but pretty much went for it. I can't imagine 3.5 watt monoblocks would overdrive them anyway []. Probably have a dozen hours on them by now. Are they burned in?

Dean, I just installed your ALK jrs. into my '78 horns tonight. Couldn't wait for the entire rewiring or rope caulking I plan to do. I just wanted to write and say THANKS. Amidst all the fury of posts and bickering regarding tweeters, squaukers, crossover points, etc., etc.......your crossovers have been an improvement for my speakers equalling my switch from SS to tube amps. The sound has a new lightness, detail and grace. I'm enjoying every minute of listening. We Klipsch owners owe a debt of gratitude to those who make these basic (and relatively low cost) modifications for our beloved speakers! Darrell

right Steamer, I've separated the top cabinet from my bass bin and rotated it to the listening position. Looks a little funky, but does the trick!

Have to say no. It's been a pretty dismal few years for BOTH bay area football teams.............I'm more into baseball............The A's are fun to watch but every year they sell off their best players. Very frustrating!!!!
