  1. Another option: 4 RB-75's, though it seems they are much harder to find than the two RS series you mentioned. The first two options are good though. If you like multichannel music, however, the RB-75 combo is a must hear......
  2. I dont't think it is unfiar for honest, working people who have other priorities besides audio to wait until the dust settles with this format war. No one wants to be on the losing side because they will have invested hundreds of their hard earned dollars on a format that could potentially go the way of BETA. What is dragging this on are the companies who were (and are) simply too greedy to take a small hit in their profits to produce a sinlge HD-DVD medium. THAT is the ONLY thing dragging this ridiculous format war on. We are all crazy about this subject because every single one of us would love to take advantage of these formats and what they have to offer, but feel stifled that either choice could represent a lesson in futility, especially if MAS's prediction comes true. Forgive me, and correct me, if I am wrong.
  3. Oldtimer, RIGHT ON!! "Made in the USA" is, as already pointed out, quite a misnomer these days. But I applaud the initial poster for at least attempting to support American made prducts WHENEVER possible. Wait and pick yourself up an all RF-63 or -83 based system. May not be in the budget for ya now, but soon enough it will be Good luck to you!!! On a side note, are any of the surround speakers made in the USA?? Are the RT subs (I assume they are)?? RW subs??
  4. I would also agree with getting the extra rears. Case in point: Started out with a pair of RB-75's for my dream home theater, got a second set, then right at the VERY end of the discontinued 7 series line, I jumped on a pair of RF-7's and could NOT be happier. Now I have all 7's, all the time. Don't miss out, especially if and when the format war ends (I don't think either side will win, personally), I am pretty sure that DTS and Dolby will utilize more than just the standard 5.1 and go to at least 7.1. Granted, you will still have a few years on Reference IV before they replace them, but you still never really know....
  5. RB-75's for RF-7's is a seamless match. Only better match I can think of are another pair of RF-7's, which I think is overkill for surround duty, and takes up a heck of a lot of space. Never heard the RF-5's with RF-7's, but the RB-75's have the exact same tweeter as the RF-7's and I can tell you with experience that the Rb-75's will be a great idea if you are looking at direct radiators versus the RS-7's.
  6. http://www.dynamichomedecor.com/Speaker-Stands.html I love this question. These stands are not cheap, especially the ones I am going to recommend: the Apollo A3. They look great with a sand blasted black finish and are sand fillable, an important option if you want to eliminate unwanted resonance from your speaker. Again, not cheap, but well worth it. Then again, Atlantic sells stands for over $400.00 a pair so the Apollos (in comparison) are a steal
  7. Man.......that is a lot of subwoofage. Someone may correct me, but placing four subs in a room could potentially lead to phase cancellation, so you really have to be carful where you place those subs, but assuming you count for that, you should be good to go
  8. Jay, If I make a sale this week, aboslutely. I will let you know very shortly.
  9. Hey guys, http://cgi.ebay.com/Pair-KLIPSCH-RB-75-Bookshelf-Speakers-Cherry-RB75_W0QQitemZ280162292638QQihZ018QQcategoryZ14991QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Just in case anyone is looking for RB-75's. They seem to be in good condition and the rating of the seller is high.
  10. Weird........So unless I am mistaken, you can record full HD programs on STANDARD DVD with this recorder?? Does that mean that HD content released by the studios could potentially be on standard DVD?? Interesting indeed. I still think that both formats are going to fail, but here is to wishful thinking.
  11. Good Point!! Trey, BobG, now is your opportunity!!! Lets hear comparisons to heritage!! Let the discussion begin!
  12. http://www.klipsch.com/news-center/press-releases/details/klipsch-palladium-floorstander-a-symbol-of-supreme-luxury.aspx WOW.....comments?
  13. You don't really lose anything with towers as surrounds except space in your room. With that said, you have a pretty whip butt system, though the timbre matching of the RF-5's to the RF-83's and RC-64 may be off slightly, though that is up to your ears to decide. I don't know much about bi-amping, but I think you need an external crossover to properly gain from this effect. I am sure someone else will chime in with more info on that.
  14. DAMMIT!!! WHY R U TEMPTING ME?!?!?! I wish.....no, I am literally cash poor right now. Just bought a new lens for the OTHER expensive hobby, photography. If it is still around in a month though, I might pick it up. I dont want you to hold it if I cannot promise you in one month. Jay, I really appreciate it though!!
  15. ...damn Jay, I wish I had the extra cash for this beauty..........why R U selling???
  16. Check Audiogon.com often too. They seem to have the RB-75's on there every now and then........good luck!!!
  17. Best Buy typicaly sets up speakers poorly. "Better" is subjective, although I have found that floorstanders add a bit of extra "ooomph" than an equivalent bookshelf, especially without a sub. I would probably go with the F-3 and see if you can get it to work with your room.
  18. LOL........how great is it that Dtel and his wife are on this forum?? I think I have a better chance of winning the lottery than having my girlfriend respect my speaker habit.....
  19. ...another vote for 5.1. Until we get more material with discrete channels in the rear, there is no need to go 7.1.
  20. LOL. Convenience is key. DVD left VHS in the dust, with no questions. On a 13" TV or a 50" TV, there simply was no debate. But I seem to remember that on small TV's, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray wont look much better than DVD (I dont remember where I read that...........maybe I made that up in my head). If that really is true, the new formats will go the very road of SACD. On the other hand, I never heard anything about DVD-Audio or SACD on the radio, yet when Blockbuster decided to carry Blu-Ray exclusively in its stores (however insignificant it was), my local radio station did a story on it. Seeing as I live in NYC, that seems like a possible big deal.
  21. Ditto Matrix. I think this is spot on, and the very reason I do not have much faith in either format winning. Mark, I also agree that physical media will always be superior to internet based content, I just thiunk that like it or not, we are heading in that direction.......[:'(]
  22. I absolutely do. In an age when few if any have any kind of backup, let alone a workable disaster recovery scenario for their data further aggravated by a dearth of PC level products that work reliably - (and let's be honest and reasonable, how often is a home user actually going to verify the reliability of the backup!?) - having a stable, secure, reliable source is much preferable. Especially considering that there is no real savings in buying a lossy volatile copy over the hardcopy, why simply buy the volatile file? The only ones that really benefit in this scenario are the distributors who are able to radically streamline their distribution network overhead. If I want some volatile lossy copy for convenience and portability, I will copy it from the hardcopy reference source. On the other hand, with a reference hardcopy I can make as many copies as I like. (And AnyDVD takes care of AACS if I had a reason to buy HD recorded content.) Ha ha...........I agree with all of this Mas, but again I was referring to those not so informed about the problems of computer storage. Hell, I HATE Itunes, yet the convenience of an ipod (which is DEFINITLEY another trap: slave to a hard drive, non remvable battery, only interfaces with itunes, etc.) is simply undeniable. Would anyone here go back to using a portable cd player? I am just saying people are lazy, particulalry those that could care less about quality (E.G. the masses who made VHS popular, the Ipod a dominating force and sent SACD to its grave). HD-DVD and Blu Ray didnt help matters by creating a format war either. I PRAY that I am wrong though, and physical media remains an essential part of home entertainment for the next 20 or 30 years.
  23. Transformers was awesome for those who have not seen it, by the way.
  24. ................I think both formats are going to lose. In the age of itunes, what common, non audio/videophile wants physical media anymore??
