  1. excuse my ignorance when it comes to building materials and so on....what happens if you want to hang something on the finished drywall? For example, the side surrounds and real surrounds will all have to be mounted on the wall, with a wood stud, one can easily use a stud finder and drill a hole and mount the speaker on the wall. If it's a steel stud, wouldn't it be more difficult to drill the same hole to mount the speaker with?
  2. Cal Blacksmith, are you successful in making your HTPC as quiet as a DVD player? That is one of the reason why I didn't go into the HTPC route because: 1. PC makes too much noise 2. PC require more research and hassle to get everything optimal and compatible. If you are successful in doing so, let me know....I'd love to know your configuration.
  3. Are there any x-over mods available for the new RF series? I am particularly interested in upgrades that can improve the overall sound quality of the RF 8/63 and RC 64...thanks
  4. since the initial HD DVD players are pentium based computers, has anyone heard of anybody upgrading the RAM on these HD DVD players? I wonder if it will improve the rumored long loading time that these machines have? Maybe it will even slightly improve the machine picture quality as well?
  5. Hi, I'm thinking about upgrading my current RF82s, just trying to get an estimate on their worth in the used market. They are less than half an year old, rarely used, all the original packaging and accessories and in black ash. Anyone interested in them, let me know...if I do sell them I'd be looking for a quick sale, so I will take just about any reasonable offers. I live in Souther California and prefer to find a local buyer. I have an account on Audiogon under the name "Blazemaster" and have plenty of perfect feedbacks on past dealings in the used audio market.
  6. where do you guys have the crossover set at on the sub? I have my set all the way to the highest point, which is 160 I think and then let the receiver set the x'over at 80hz.
  7. I do like the dynamics of the Klipsch and its ability to make things sound like a "live recording". But after hearing some of the other more expensive speakers out there, I do appreciate how they have much less or none coloration compared to the Klipsch. Does anybody know of a Horn-tweeter design speakers with little to none coloration?
  8. I do love the liveliness of the Klipsch's as well. But do you guys know of anything out there that sounds like Klipsch but with less coloration? The coloration of the Klipsch is the only thing that I don't like about my Klipsch.
  9. it better be, if it retails for over 7 grand. I'd rather get 2 Velodyne DD15 for that price.
  10. I see...so if I don't use the auto-on feature and just turn on and off when I need to, there's no point of going out and getting a Y connector?
  11. If you don't see rainbows, have you considered the new Optoma H72? It's a DLP projector for the same price range as the 2 LCDs that you are considering. Less screen door than LCD, and better PQ. Something to think about.
  12. I just picked up one of these "used" through Audiogon. Pretty cool sub for the price that I paid. Hey Chops, I see that you have the "Y" connector for the sub's input connection, I only have the mono one, will the Y connection yield better bass response?
  13. yes, alot of it has to do with how you like the bass to sound. Typically, placing it near the corner will give you the most output. Placing it away from the corner will make the bass sound and feel cleaner, with less distortion. I find that placing it about 1 foot away from a corner is the best compromise usually.
  14. Or if you must find the best spot by yourself, without anyone else to help you: put the sub in your normal listening chair or spot, and then crawl around on the floor in the potential spots for the sub, until you find the place where it sounds the best. Basically you want to reverse the location of yourself/listening position with the sub, so you can hear what the sub will sound like in that spot. Let me know if the way I'm phrasing this is confusing.
  15. that sucks, I know Kathy Mason is a member from htguide.com also.
  16. so they do sound good for the money huh? I seen quite a few of them on eBay for around $350, if they do sound good, at that price it's a bargain. I think I will pick up a pair.
  17. I have a pair of RF82 for sale, let me know if you are interested.
  18. makes perfect sense capo72. But let me ask you this, how do you guys feel about spending more on a more on a more expensive coax cable? So comparing lower quality vs. higher quality coax cable....
  19. well, he went to a dealer that couldn't figure out how to get the sub to work, so maybe he should try a different dealer if another one is available. No offense or anything but if I went to a dealer and the salesperson told me that he couldn't get a sub to work, I'd have the feeling that I'm auditioning in the wrong place. BTW: Rotel is probably one of the most commonly used brand of amps to go along with Klipschs.
  20. How much does a 5.0 setup cost from the THX ultra line? MSRP please?
  21. I know it's not bad, but you know how these things go. It's just something inside me that's driving me crazy knowing that the RF63 or 83 could be better at 2 channel, even if the difference isn't worth twice the cost.
  22. i guess I'd have to go and have a listen on the Ultra2s. My dealer told me that the ultra2s are much better than the reference, but he just seemed like the type of guy that buy things based on specs, not by realistic comparison. I will go and have a listen myself when I have the time and chance. Can someone give me the MSRP of the Ultra 2 system?
  23. it's ok buckeye_nut...not much offense taken. It's just a "feeler" sale, not a life or death situation. I guess I'll just hold on to it for couple years and upgrade to something else later.
  24. Hi, I just picked up a pair of RS52 for side surrounds and very happy with them. What should I use as rear surrounds? I have seen most recommend using dipole as sides and direct radiating as rears, so should I be looking at the RB51? What's the MSRP for the RB51?
