  1. I have a pair of Vertical Cornwalls available in Oiled Walnut that are in really nice shape. I have the speakers listed on Audiogon. I tested the waters at a higher price because I have far more in them than I would offer to the forum. They are now listed on Audiogon for $1000, but I will take $800 from a forum member. I have too much in them to sell any lower than that. I really hate to sell them but things are a little tight and I just made a purchase on some amps that I couldn't pass up. I had my other amp sold but right before I was going to ship, the thing was churning out intermittent static in one channel and I couldn't ship them to the guy. I need to get it figured out or repaired first. Here is a pic. I have detailed pics if anyone is interested.
  2. That's funny Phil. Maybe Don Imus can use it on his last show, lol.
  3. It is only getting worse. I have completely given up on the large venue concerts. It is complete garbage. If I use the same practice that big biz uses, I get arrested. I read an article in Rolling Stone today that really pissed me off. Bands are now charging fans for fan club memberships with promise of getting first crack at tickets. People are paying $100 for memberships for two things: early concert tickets and freaking message board access. After the big biz reserved tickets, there is nothing left. The fans go on and get crappy seats while others get nothing. The article said that The Police, Genesis, The Stones, and a few others. Completely pathetic and greedy.
  4. Check out these if you want a seriously badass looking guitar tube amp but prepare to open up the wallet. http://www.electricwoodamps.com/index.html
  5. I think it was a joke (and a pretty good one) regarding the 3 watts if the pre tubes were reversed.
  6. Hi Craig, I did get what looks to be a copy of the manual but it only shows on of the amps. By the looks of these beautiful amps, I could tell it was a mirror image, but was just unsure of the little guys. Thanks - these things are beauties. Going to bias and fire 'em up. Thanks for getting back so quickly.
  7. Are these amps mirror image in terms of tube placement? or is the 12au7 on left and 12ax7 on right for both amps? I am pretty sure it's the latter but don't want to screw anything up. Just got a pair today. The guy I bought them from threw in two pair of teles. How cool is that?
  8. My 2 cents. Did Lisa fly off the handle a little? Yes, a little. Should she have sent and should she send to Craig for a checkup? Yes and absolutely. Did Craig react harshly? Yes Was it justified? Yes, a little. I would be a little frustrated too but Lisa clearly didn't throw him under the bus. Now the SS versus Tube arguement. I'm not on any side, but in my experience, you will need to spend far more $$ on SS gear to get a quality hifi system. I have VRDs on the way and can't wait and just sold a great KT88 stereo amp. I also own a little TEAC and a pair of Monarchy Audio Class A SS Monos. All sound great, but different. The Monarchys sound awesome and are the first SS amps that I can afford that I love. These would be a great choice for great, low maintenance sound. I use the TEAC for multi channel experimenting. It's a shockingly good little amp. I don't care what or how you use it as long as you are enjoying the music. I know it's frustrating, but try to have fun which is what it's all about. Cheers.
  9. Sweet, thanks for posting this. It should come in handy for sure.
  10. Thanks for the feedback. I found it very interesting actually. I have some Teles for the 12ax7 and 12au7 which I will be using. With the KT88 amps that I have used in the past, the output tubes were absolutely key to the sound I was after. The difference between the stock tubes and both Gold Lion reissues and Penta tubes was nothing short of drastic. I'll start out with the stock tubes to see if I like what I'm hearing. It sounds like I will by the recommendations I've heard. If I can save some tube money, that would be very cool!! I'll use the money to buy some new music instead. I have a chance to get some Mullard 5ar4s, but I think I'll pass. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again guys.
  11. Thanks fellas, looking forward to the arrival and firing these sweet amps up. Question for VRD owners. This is my first tube amplifier that is tube rectified. My previous 4 amps have all has SS rectification. Is investing in good NOS rectifier tubes money well spent. I have some premium KT88s, 6550s and preamp tubes, but the 5ar4s are Sovteks. Will the recifier tube make a significant difference in sound? My experience with preamp rectifier tubes says no but I wouls love to hear opinions. Thanks!!
  12. Thanks Gary. I can't wait for them to get here. Looking forward to an A/B comparison to my current amp. I bought them blindly on forum recommendations but found a sweet deal. Y'all haven't let me down yet!!
  13. Found a deal that I couldn't pass up. The new babies should be here late this week.
  14. The zig zaggy guys are resistors. I love King Crimson btw!!
  15. Actually, that is where it's helping. I have only been listening for a few hours and to quote another on this board (forget exactly) I'm just one guy in one room. The first thing that I noticed was that the system was throwing a more 3D soundstage. For a mere 24 bucks and about 90 minutes, it will be easy to find out.
  16. Thanks Larry. I am really enjoying it alot!! As far as doing it myself, I've been getting a little cocky since I fixed my Sony HDTV a couple of weeks ago. Amazing what we can do if we actually try!! The downside is that I'm going to have to buy another tube amp now for the center channel. Easy come, easy go!
  17. Well, I finally got around to trying to make one of these things. Very cool. I recently bought a little 3 channel Teac chip amp and it works perfectly for this application. It has a volume control for each channel so I have the center level a little lower than L/R. Using a LS between a pair of KHorns. Here is the poor man's mini box.
  18. lol, I feel your pain Allan. You must be nearly as smart as MAS - it took me 16 minutes.
  19. I'm in Raleigh, NC. I'll shoot you an email with pics if you want to take a look. Email keithmcg@nc.rr.com if interested in the cornwalls. Oh yeah, thanks for the nice plug Chuck!!
  20. I received a few responses and will reply tonight. Thanks!
  21. The '73 Vertical Cornwalls that this is sitting on are probably next if anyone is looking.
  22. Sale Pending - thanks for all of the interest. I have a JM Peach for sale. It is a little over a year old and I've had it a little over a month. This preamp sounds superb but it does not fit my audio rack unfortunately with its beautiful maple/cherry case. The unit will come with extra rectifier tubes. Trades considered for tube amps/preamps only. $950 + shipping
  23. What he said. [Y] I could not have articulated it any better.
  24. Nice offer. They won't last too long. Good luck and thanks for offering them here first.
