  1. brokenarrow1, I would upgrade to the RC-7 and keep the RF-25's for side surrounds. If you are pleased with the thump the RSW 10 makes (which I think you would) I would save up and purchase a 7 channel AVR (edit: if your HK isn't already) and maybe use your RC-35 for a rear 6th channel (and even try and find another one at a good price later on for 7.1)[]
  2. Which format does yours play, HD or Blue Ray? I thought the NeuNeo's only upconverted 480p DVD's.[:^)]
  3. I have only heard the RF-5's at the store. They sounded good but no where as powerful as the RF-7's. I have an overkill situation in my HT (specs below--PICS on page 4 of the "Photo section) and I have tight base in the system and don't feel my RF-7's are boomy. They also sound better in my home than they did in the designated theater display at EVERY store I auditioned. For music, if I leave my crossover set at 80 Hz, it does sound slightly boomy (of course that's my RSW's), but when I set the subs cross at 60 Hz, it cleans up nicely and the RF-7's sound tight (For movies I set the crossover at 80 Hz.). BTW, the reason I have 2 subs in the first place is a long story--If you aren't experiencing any directionality of the location of you sub--I would still opt for the RF-7 upgrade--Of course this is only my opinion [])
  4. Welcome hatchmo, I second the RB-35 recommendation for 7.1 with the RF-35's. If you have a wide room the RS-35's may work better back there. When I went to 7.1 I noticed the subtleties that the few DTS-ES and DD-EX had. The improvement in my system was slight for other 5.1 material. That being said, I miss them when I don't have them on, and it does add to the experience.[]
  5. Hello Mike, If it were me I would upgrade your mains to RF-7's and move the RF-5's to surround and put your RS-7's in the rear in a 7.1 configuration. I have the RF-3's that I use for surrounds and I prefer them over the RS-7's and the RB-75's for surrounds (although one of these may work better in your HT envirnment). Insofar as the differences I noticed in 5.1 verses 7.1--It depends on the material. When I watched LOTR in 5.1 the first time in 5.1 it was an awesome experience. When I saw the newer extended version in 6.1 I notice my back speakers had several discrete sound scenes that were cool, but it didn't make it an overall better movie. []
  6. The RB-35 and the RB-75's cabinet are approximately the same size.[:^)] http://www.klipsch.com/product/comparison.aspx?line=ref&type=b
  7. Thanks. [] My Denon allows me to have 2 sets of side surrounds. I use my RF-3 towers for multichannel music and concert videos and I add my RS-7's for movies (Both A & .
  8. Welcome to the forum Flysurgeon, I have the RB-75's that I use for my rear surrounds and they work extremely well. I prefer them over the RS-7's in that placement. []
  9. I disagree. I Own the Denon AVR 3805 and the 3803 and am very happy with both. In my main theater I have the Denon AVR 4802R and have not felt the need to upgrade in 2 years.
  10. Welcome to the forum naperdoc [] I can't tell if you solved the problem. If you didn't, you may be in the "PCM" mode. When watching something in 5.1 push the "mode" button on the remote and cycle through to "Auto." You should then get 5.1 material. It is discussed on page 63 of the Denon 3805 manual. Good luck.
  11. dkp, If this statement wasn't directed at me maybe I over reacted. I mentioned my research earlier in the thread and I guess that's what threw me. [] I think the difference in the RF-7's and the Bose speakers you are referring is considerably different than the upgrade from my Denon to a 200 wpc amp. Then again if you feel like it's not I can live with my sub par set up. [] Now THIS is my last response for the evening. I have to go damage my ears with some Sarah McLachlan (and my liver with a few Belhavens) [H]
  12. It should be more of a comparison between a vette and an economy car. Not all 4 cylinders are made equal. If we're talking a Suburu wrx sti the experience is quite thrilling. back on topic now[] Then I think we should equate the Vette and the Suburu wrx for our comparison with my Home Theater and the difference a 200 watt amp would make. [] My last comment on this thread is that I am not arguing quality power cannot make a difference in how the RF-7's respond or sound--I'm sure it can. What I am saying is that My Denon 4802R THX Ultra 2 receiver is awesome and I don't experience any the ill effects (i.e., shutting down or high frequencies sounding bad at high volumes) that Mr. Mcgoo mentions. IMO, if lo123 gets what he is contemplating he will be happy []
  13. I agree that more amplification will take the Rf-7's to their capacity. I disagree that the research I did in coming to my conclusion equates to your Bose analogy. Of course this discussion is not what lo123 was asking about.
  14. lo123 has come to the right place to get a smattering of opinions. [] I think upkeep and maintenance issues with cars are different from individual upgrade preferences in Home Theater components. We are at the point of saying the same thing--Get the RF-7's. []
  15. I understand this is a thread that is advocating the use of center channel speakers as side surrounds but I have Reference RS-3's (WDST) that I am using with my KLF-20's/KLF-C7 and feel they work quite nicely.
  16. I totally disagree and have 3 yamaha receivers sitting in the garage that I have replaced with Denons. I didn't think there was a difference until I actually brought a Denon home and tried it out. If I am remembering right, BobbyT is the only one that actually had a Denon and decided to exchange it for a Yamaha. I feel there are more people that have upgraded to Denon from their Yamahas. There is nothing wrong with the Yamaha at lower volumes but the high current design of the Denons give you more clean power at higher levels. I feel the upper end Denons are the happy medium between what Mr. McGoo is talking about on the 2 channel discussion (with the same topic) of headroom, verses spending slightly less money for a Yamaha whose watt per channel claims doesn't correspond equally with the Denons, IMO. That being said I have no experience with the newer model Yammi's but can recommend the Denons on the afor mentioned thread. []
  17. You haven't ditched the 5803 have you? [] Were you not satisfied with your results?
  18. And apparently some folks haven't read the totality of the threads that support my position that you can have the Denon's I mentioned and be very happy with your purchase. Nothing to say he can't upgrade later and appreciate greater benefit from his RF-7's. To use your analogy you wouldn't tell the person not to buy the Porsche unless he is willing to spend more on tires than the Porsche cost. My RF-7's perform well with my Denon AVR Receiver and I am EXTREMELY happy with the results. []
  19. I disagree. I can't argue that having more power wouldn't be benificial for your RF-7's but saying "Long story short, don't get the RF-7s unless you are prepared to get an amp that gets the job done," negates the fact that alot of us love our Home Theaters and are MORE than satisfied with our Denon AVR receivers. I run my speakers as Large (after trying numerous settings) and my bass is NOT boomy or undefined. He is also talking about getting the RSW 12 subwoofer and from experience I would bet he would be ecstatic with what he is contemplating. MrMcgoo evidently has the golden ear and may not be satisfied with anything short of his perception of perfect, but some of us appreciate what we have as well, and don't feel the need to upgrade after doing our own research.[] {edit: I also can't comment on his current Denon, not having heard it. The AVR's I recommended would fit his needs, IMHO}
  20. I am a big Denon/Klipsch Fan. I have 3 HT's with that combination, after trying others. If you can find a Denon AVR 3805 on sale (I think it may just now be labeled "discontinued") that would be a good receiver. If you can find a used AVR-3803, 4802R or 5803 that would be a better bang for your buck, IMO. I am not familiar with the AVR 1805 but may work just fine. I would try it and see.[]
  21. I agree a center channel is a must for 5.1 material. That being said, I was EXTREMELY surprised when after listening to my Roger Waters "In the Flesh-Live" DVD at least 50 times, that there was no center channel recorded. I noticed this when I walked in front of my TV and realized nothing was coming out of my RC-7. I switched to another source--sound out of the center. I then called a friend who owns the DVD and he said he was sure there was a center channel in the mix. Well...until he played it again. []
  22. Hmmmm....RS-3 or RF-7's [:^)] [6] [] 6 RF-7's--Rock on indeed!
  23. It sounds like the RS-7 would work well in your situation especially if you have multi listening positions or have to mount them higher on the wall due to room obstacles. If you have basically a confined "sweet spot," and could mount them linear with your seating position, the RB-75 Bookshelf speakers would be my choice for surrounds. []
  24. The RSW-12 is definitely a step above the RW-12--Hence the price difference. I agree paying full retail for it would be painful. I would get a list of authorized dealers from the main Klipsch website and call around (even if the next closest place is 100 miles away) and specifically tell the person on the phone that you are looking for an RSW-12 and price IS the consideration of where you are going to buy it. If you find a price you can live with, call your original sales person and ask them to match the price and you will be down to pick it up. If they don't--Road Trip. [] BTW, I would check dealer stock as well. If they have to order it confirm with them the time frame when it WILL be in stock. That's my two cents.
  25. Big Dave! Have a great time. [Y] I also saw the stones in 1981 on Halloween and it was Wild as all get out. ZZ Top opened for them and I had never heard anything so loud in my life. Then I remember Mick looking up toward the heavens during "Gimme Shelter" and saying, "Lord don't let it rain." Within moments the storm clouds opened up and 80,000 of us got soaked! What a great time. There are some more things that come to mind that I will have to share with you over a Belhaven sometime. [] Cheers
