  1. I think "Big improvement," is subjective and depends on the size of your room and particular DVD. I upgraded to 9.2 (actually still 6.1 discrete depending on the media)& I am glad I did, but I can't say it justifies the cost. It wouldn't be something I would put on credit;-) Insofar as your speakers are concerned, look at the Klipsch THX speakers. Their front, center, mains, & rears are monopole, direct firing speakers. The ones they recommend for Side surround are "wide dispersion surround technology," speakers, like your RS-35's. It sounds like you are going to have a nice set up.
  2. Montegro23, I agree with Steelerfan. After you played with it for 2 months you are going to wish you got the more complicated one. I don't doubt that both the 2801 and 3801 are good receivers, but are discontinued items. I hope you got a good price on them. FYI If you were contemplating on spending $1000, you could get a new Denon 3805 (DTS-ES &DD-EX) which is a heck of a receiver. For less than that you can get a Denon 2805. Regardless, Congratulations on upgrading to 7.1!
  3. I am a huge fan of Klipsch, and as a one time investor in Ultimate Electronics, I wrote both on this issue several times last year. I received no response from either and business practice of ULTE didn't change.
  4. I agree with Michael, and to a point Steve. What Receiver do you have? I have a Denon 4802R, which allows me to have 2 side surrounds. I use RF-3 as Surround A (For music) and RS-7's (use to be RS-3's) for Surround B (Both for movies). If you have the funds get the RB-75's as rear surrounds--If not stick with Michael's recommendation. I also wouldn't discount using the KSF-10.5's, but I don't know much about them.
  5. There you go--2 good suggestions, that are completely opposite and neither wrong. I guess you will have to experiment.
  6. I set my RB-75's to Large because they have 8 inch woofers and are rated down to 42 Hz. I like getting the full sound out of my front channels. I also don't have the RSW-15, in this setup, but a smaller 12 inch Phase Tech sub. If you have your RSW-15 in the front of the room near the RB-75's, and RC-7, you may have better luck setting it to small--If not I recommend setting it to large. I hate it when people tell me to experment and see, but...Experment with that (and the crossover) and see. Good Luck
  7. Damon, Thanks for the heads up. I contemplated buying another R.E.M. DVD-audio but decided against it for now. If anyone has a contrary opinion please post.
  8. My last response on this thread. This was a sad situation. I stand by my written sentiments on THIS case. As far as telling other parents how to raise their kids and what kind of access they should have to public school...Good Luck. Boomac, Nice gear by the way.
  9. I have no agenda. Just stating a fact. I won't share my opinion on the issue of "Gun Control," because that is not why I signed up for this Forum. I can't imagine people on either side of the issue thinking THIS child should have had access to a gun.
  10. Now this is something EVERY parent should do. Champagne taste beer budget writes " Now I'm off to surf the web to find out what I can about registered sex offenders. I found out last night that a newly released level two offender just moved into a house on the same block as our day care provider. Nine kids, all under 7 years old."
  11. Boomac writes, "People not locking up guns and ammo have nothing to do with why this kid became a killer." No but it explains why THESE people were killed by a gun.
  12. I stopped in at Bestbuy on Sunday to see if there were any new DVD-A audio titles. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. They moved the DVD-A/SACD section to a more obscure place and shrunk the dwindling selection--Not a good sign. I am going to visit other locations today and see if I can keep hope alive...
  13. gibby214, I am using RB-75's as mains in my bedroom theater and I see why you chose them. It appears you have a nice setup as well. My Theater is basically composed of 2 small rooms and the seating position is in the middle. Behind me a 7.5ft by 7.5 with low ceiling. Main viewing area 13 1/2 by 16 1/2 with high A-frame ceiling, on 2nd floor, with other obstacles. I bought the RSW-15 to put in front of my TV to replace the KSW-15 I had there. What I didn't realize was that the tremendous magnet in the RSW messed up the picture of my RPTV (valuable lesson learned). There was no where else aesthetically I could put a 15 inch Sub in my main viewing area (except in front of the TV) so I put it behind me. It sounded directional; not bad, but you could tell where the sub was. I could and did put a RSW-12 in my main viewing area, put the RSW in another theater (Way OVERKILL for that set up;-), but I missed the power of the larger sub. I then had the bright idea of keeping the RSW-12 in the front viewing area to balance out the directionality of having the RSW-15 behind me (which I moved back)--In a word, NIRVANA! I have read that notes below 80 Hz are supposed to be non-directional, so putting your sub behind you may work in your situation. Good thing for Klipsch and my salesperson, it didn't work in mine--But I'm not complaining.
  14. Jacksonbart, On 5.1 movies I don't notice any difference with the RB-75's compared to the RS-7's that I had back there. The big difference is on Music Video DVD's with good sound tracks. I just listened to Peter Gabriel's "Play-The Videos," (greatest hits) DVD, recorded in DTS 96/24 and having the 5.1 converted to "7.1" is freaking incredible!!! I also feel there should be a difference on Dolby-EX and DTS-ES which I will play around this week. I am not moving any speakers out of this room:-)!!! I DO have too many speakers. I have a pair of RB-5 II's that I am trying to work into a bedroom theater 7.1 setup, but aesthetically, my wife won't let me do it until it looks nicer:-( My Legend setup at work is a 7.1 system. No luck at Bestbuy today where I found the DVD-A/SACD selection has gotten even smaller--I am bummed. I will venture out again tomorrow.
  15. IndyKlipschFan, No I'm not & yes it is. Thanks DRWHO for the info and taking time to answer my thread. After looking at the sideways design (as compared to the RB-75 Bookshelf) of the KL-650-THX Klipsch speakers is when I decided to try and experiment. The long story is I did try it all 3 ways (over and over and over...). I couldn't tell much, if any difference, so I decided to post the question before I secured the shelves, which I just finished doing. The speakers are tilted down, pointed straight at the back of my head. Both are in corners, and the woofers are approx. 12 inches from the side walls. I appreciate what you are saying about the horn. I noticed when I laid the RB-75 on it's side it made the horn position 60 x 90, which made my conceived speaker position different from the KL-650 (I realize they also us different horns, etc.). That was another reason for my post. Insofar as unbolting the horn and rotating it 90 degrees, The RB-75's front is a solid piece of plastic from top to bottom, with the woofer inserted in it.
  16. Thanks for the recommendation Jacksonbart. I know I will like Jazz more than classical. I have to go to Lowe's, so I will stop by Bestbuy and see if they have either of those titles.
  17. This is an excellent DVD-Audio. The transfer in 5.1 is phenomenal and is a must have for British Rock and Roll Fans. The famous single "Bang a Gong (Get it on)," sounds wonderful with those low bass notes. If it has been some time since you listened to the album it definitely will bring back memories. I popped in the CD version for fun and I have to say IMO, DVD-Audio is a definite improvement! There is also a video of "Bang a Gong," with a piano player who surely must be Elton, although I didn't see him on the credits. Good luck on finding it though--After someone recommended it to me I had to drive on the far side of Dallas to pick it up. Well worth the trip. I don't listen to much 2 channel music (hard to justify buying all of these speakers if I did) but I couldn't get the 192/24 stereo version to play--only 96/24. If anyone has this, and can get it to play, please post.
  18. I have to admit my "new" appreciation for Female country music singers has as much to do with the video as it does with the music. Something about Shinia and Faith singing to me on a 65 inch screen--I can be a "little bit country." My next venture is to buy some jazz...I am done "testing" (and spending money) on Classical music to see if I like it.
  19. Happy Anniversary Indeed;-) And Congratulations--In my Bedroom Theater I have the 2910/3805 combo and I love it!!!!! Check out this thread at the AVS forum for information and firmware consideration: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=458229
  20. Steelerfan, I know what you are saying. Bestbuy is the best source of DVDA/SACD in the DFW metroplex. I have 4 BBY stores in my area and I found the same thing. I visit all of them on a weekly basis and found that they don't order ANY quantity of most of the selection. The R.E.M on topic, was the ONLY copy and it was only in 1 store. I found that on several titles that I purchased. It has been some time since they have had any new titles--In fact I think it was when Elton's collection came out. Bottom-line, every time I go in and they ask to help me, I ask them to tell their managers that people (evidently it's just me;-) want these titles. Unfortunately I think DVD-A/SACD are on the way out.
  21. I don't really know what you mean by "reasonably priced," but if you can get a Denon 4802R, THX Ultra 2 at a good price, before the 4805 comes out would be my recommendation. I have been pleased with mine. I also have the Denon 3805 with RB-75's in another room that sounds good. I have owned 4 Yammi's that I liked, but after I purchased a Denon 3803 to replace a Yamaha RXV-800, I haven't gone back. Everyone has their own opinion on this issue and evidently it is highly subjective. If you feel comfortable with your salesperson, try auditioning some of the recommendations in your own home. Good Luck There are quite a few folks here that swear by SVS subs, but you can only get them on line--I like to support brick and mortar companies, so I would go to your nearest Klipsch dealer and wheel and deal on a RSW-12--most are having problems financially, and you may be able to talk them into a deal. What about the place where you bought your speakers?
  22. Foxman, Thanks for the list. I have several of those also and will post my impressions of some. The lack of titles that I listen to, forced me to experiment with other music. I am a rock and roller at heart, who in the last few years have enjoyed female country singers. I am trying to develop an appreciation of classical, but it hasn't sunk in yet.
  23. You are right. The only response I am getting is from Heritage owners like yourself, Coytee. I guess Reference Folks are enjoying their systems too much to respond--I think I will keep my set up the way it is and go to the next obsession.
  24. In the earlier days of my Rock and Roll experience, I wasn't too much of an R.E.M. fan. It wasn't until I had purchased all of the DVD-A/SACD's titles that I wanted that I discovered this DVD-Audio. "The Best of R.E.M. In Time 1988-2003's," Advanced Resolution Audio mix is incredible. Michael Stipe's vocals are haunting on "E-Bow the Letter," and the bass will thump you in the chest. All of the songs they played on the radio when I wasn't much into them sound so rich and full in the 5.1 mix. It brings back memories of being in the car with friends singing "Orange Crush," at the top of their lungs, while I sat patiently for a Stones song to come on so I could destroy the lyrics with my rendition, but I digress... I also purchased the R.E.M. DVD video, "Perfect Square," which also has good picture quality and great sound. I understand the sound quality difference between a concert and studio album. That being said, on a rockin night that R.E.M is going to be involved, I usually start off watching the video and then after a few brews I plug in the DVD-A and the sonic difference is incredible! I am EXTREMELY disappointed that DVD-A & SACD technology isn't making it the consumer world. I would love to hear recommendations from fellow forum members and will post some of my observations on those, as well as some more High Res Audio that I think are worthy of comment
  25. JEEZ...You Heritage fellows are going to teach me to start a thread with a suggestive title-- I am going to bed and when I wake up tomorrow, I just KNOW someone is going to have an opinion on my REAR SPEAKERS!
