  1. Thanks to everyone for the congratulations. Travis, I love Polvo's too- but my screen name refers to the Chapel Hill band that were on Merge records (before they called it quits). I used to haunt several Peer2Peer downloading sites in the hopes of finding someone who had one of their live shows to trade (to no avail) and came up with polvoloco as a way to advertise my obsession. And thanks for the picture help. If there's a picture somewhere in the body of this message, then I got it. pzannucci, these are my first K-horns indeed. I picked up a pair of '83 Cornwalls off Craigslist last September (my first Klipsch), and am still very much infatuated with them. Now they'll be moving near the TV. A get together sounds great. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
  2. The 7c is the same as the 7, plus the case. Edit: I can see where the above might be confusing. I mean to say the c in 7c stands for "case". The preamp within is identical.
  3. Wow!! I just got the speakers home and (after a run to the Shack for some banana clips) have them up and running... of sorts. I'd put some pics up, but I appear to be befuddled by just how such technical wizardry occurs (I've seen that others have had this issue before, now I see dragging and dropping a picture just don't fly). The speakers look and sound fantastic; and, as soon as I get some false corners ("Corners? We don't need no stinkin' corners!") up and, perhaps, get the Khorns further apart than five feet center cone to center cone, I'll bet they sound even a tad better. The transaction went very smooth, and rmlowz gave me a stellar deal. And, as far as his concern over hosting a function in his listening room, I must say it's ill founded. His A/V room is the stuff of legend. Perhaps not huge, but wonderfully executed (I'm thinking I need a few of those acoustic tiles hanging around myself...) . All in all, a very rewarding experience. So, anyone know how to make a five foot high false corner, floating in the middle of a room, look attractive? I'm all ears/
  4. Not at all. I've always kept my speakers (from Sanyo and Altec's to my current Cornwalls) at a little more than six and a half feet apart with fab results. I came upon this set up one long, debauchery filled weekend when, living in a large, one room house I decided to find the ideal speaker placement. after some hours, and some scotch, I found that the long vs. short wall had a smaller discernible difference than if the speakers moved closer together/ further apart. And, after some tinkering, I found just shy of seven feet to be optimal. I have continued, these last twenty years, to use the same rule of thumb; always with great results. All of that being said, sometimes it's hard to squeeze those mammoth speakers pleasingly into a seven foot window... P.S. Whoops, I was reading this post from the beginning and, sort of, jumped in at the wrong spot. My apologies
  5. Ahhhhh, Of course, I just miss the dream. I've been trying to log in all day, but, alas, technological ineptitude has finally gotten the better of me (my mother always said it would happen) and I've missed my chance (we never have Khorns come up in Austin). Oh well, if, for some reason, seti has not accepted these, please let me know; I'd be dying to give them a nice, Austin home.
  6. Wow!! Those Heresy's look gorgeous. I'm both down in Austin and have just been getting comfy with a pair of cornwalls, so am not in need; but if I were, I'd be up for a road-trip... and possibly for the Khorns.... but that's another story. Devon .
  7. Welcome portlanddean, Check craigslist. I know there are some Cornwalls in Garland (at a great price) and another at a fair price somwhere in Dallas (can't recall where). There's also a pair of LaScalas for sale as well. I'd come up and grab them myself, but I keep looking for a good pair of klipschorns, even though I think I'm short a room with corners to put them in. Good luck in your speaker search.
  8. Congrats Toomanycars, Great looking pair of speakers. I'm afraid I can't help you much, but those appear to be from the 14th week of 1984, if that helps get you going. Do a search here at the forum, and I'm sure you'll come up with something. Or just hang out long enough and someone will come along with an informed response.
  9. Sunny California... could think of worse road excursions. Certainly would be worth the gas.
  10. These are just about to end over on Ebay. Too bad they're so far away []. I really need a pair of heritage Klipsch! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250037609717&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015
  11. Congrats Den! Nothing like a house where everybody enjoys rock'n, and nothing like McIntosh and Klipsch to get it done. I have a pair of McIntosh mono blocks and have been trying (quite unsucessfully) to get in touch with a woman who's selling a pair of Cornwalls on Craigslist. If she ever responds, I'll have the magic elixir as well. In the meantime, what kind of TT are your spinning all that great vinyl on? Your prized collection surely deserves a fine phonograph.
  12. Dale just played two blocks away last night (he plays there at the Continental Club very often). Los Lobos just put on a smoking show a few weeks ago, and Wayne the Train Hancock (who's written a few songs that Hank III has covered, they're good friends) is playing this Saturday. Frank Black (of the Pixies) is doing and In Store performance in about 15 minutes (I'd go, but it's usually a bit packed at Waterloo Records) and has a concert tonight. Bo Diddley just played last Saturday (didn't make that one, unfortunately, but my neighbors did). And that's just scraping the surface. It's been quite warm in Texas this fall, add another notch to the Al Gore looks to be right category. And I'll also second that this is a fantastic forum. We'll be able to build our own bridge between the America's and Europe; a bridge of Klipsch that are easy to crossover (or bridged amps holding each others leads... oh, I give up on the puns)
  13. Hello all, quite new to posting on the site (though I've been lurking and reading for almost a year now). Hey Timmikid, whenever you want to come to Austin, just let me know. The shows seem to be best in the Fall (lots of good people playing right now) and just before SXSW. I'll make sure you're treated to a Texas-style good time. And a big hello to Tkdamerica. I've also got connections in Switzerland, though mostly in Lucerne and Zurich (also, short on Umlauts over here on my keyboard). The Jura and Oberland are among my favorite areas. Devon
  14. I have a Marnatz 7 preamp and a pair of Mc-30's. I don't know if the preamp is sufficient for low-output cartridges or not [8-)]. Do I need a dedicated phono prestage as well?
  15. Thanks a lot for the welcome Mike. I'm afraid my TT didn't come with a cartridge (though I think I saw the auction you're thinking of right after I got my table). An SPU would be great, I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled. I'd already been thinking about the Denon, as it's a little easier to come across. I'll be sure to post pics and keep everyone updated as things progress. In the meantime I'm still using my Technics SL-Q2, the first and only table I've ever run. I think the Thorens should provide something of a step up sonically. And thanks for the link as well, I'll head over there right now and check out their headshells.
