  1. Thanks WMCD. Appreciate the encouragement! I sprayed some truck bed liner paint on the horn last night to cover any scratches and it looks pretty good. I mispoke above, and thank Marvel for pointing this out, when I referred to the "diffuser" which really should be a phase plug I believe. The 8442 EV CD has a phase plug. If I'm wrong please correct me. Yeah, Edison was scorned when he failed so many times (okay I realize this is a BIG exaggeration!). I need to get someone local to get some dispersion graphs if possible!!!?? ust to see how "ribless" horn disperses if possible. This project is sticking a knife in a wall socket just to see what happens. No preconceived ideas at all just playing with spare parts.. I like my KC Masterpiece "que" sauce!! Hard to beat.
  2. Mummy tape dragging the floor with Boris Karloff head with two tweeters for eyes and port for mouth with teeth
  3. I could sweep the floor of my dirty shop and come up with an interesting monster. I think I have a few dead bodies in there now. At least two??? Someday I'll clean up and count. Good suggestions. I call that the "sweep the floor special" ala pizza.
  4. Cary, Where are you located? I'm in Little Rock. I have a couple of sets of grills in various condition on Hs that I reveneered and built new frames. PM me and I'll try to get some pics tonight? Think I have black and brown grill material.
  5. I am aware of Bob Crites excellent tweeters having purchased them and living about 50 miles from his shop which I have visited many times. I'm also aware that the K-77 uses an EV driver. I'm also aware per Bob's website that there are apparently no good after market replacement diaphragms for the K-77/T-35 tweeters which is why he no longer carries same. Perhaps I wasn't clear but this was a see what it will do project. I had two EV drivers and two front horns laying around (I didn't take them off a working K-77) and modified the horn to attach a much better EV driver with a titanium diaphragm made in house by EV with a better response. My goal was to see what it would sound like. If it sounds bad then I unscrew the EV drivers and use them on another project and the K-77 horn pieces can go back on the shelf or trash since they weren't working anyway. That's why I did this. I've now removed the ribs and hit it with touch up paint and will final paint tonight. Here's another pic. So now can anyone address my question whether the ribs (for lack of a better term) will make any difference? Mustang, I may give your suggestion serious consideration!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks.
  6. Okay so call me Crazyman but I had two K-77 horn fronts laying around and wondering if I could fit a couple of EV drivers to the horns. I used a plastic female horn adapter and cropped the round edges, epoxied the horn and adapter together and drill two holes on the top side in the adaptor. These will fit in a Heresy cabinet. I screw in the four screws on the horn then two screws through the new holes into the 3/4" glue block to helps support the adaptor and take stress off the epoxy joint. I knocked out the center difuser on the K-77 and am working on cutting/filing down the dispersion ribs on the horn front. The sound is great but need more pad down since it's 110db. Not sure if leaving the ribs makes any difference? Any ideas? Too late now since I've started the process.
  7. Thanks guys. yes I will use gasket tape on back. Did the same on the cornwalls I just redid (including the removing front motor board screwed in front inside cabinet). Just being persnickity (SP??? - I think that's a word)
  8. Jimbo I may have some 4 inch dust caps with the Klipsch emblem on them. I can check and see if you're interested in them. You may not want the Klipsch emblem on the passive radiator. I think I have some of those left. I'll check.
  9. Yes, started life as nice speaker then wore down and is now being resurrected with tummy tuck, eye lift and permanent eyebrows!
  10. These were originally birch plywood with exposed layer plywood cabinets. After sanding smooth and cutting out the corner trim notches I installed quartered figured eucalyptus veneer and solid teak corner trim and install side to side and back internal bracing and made new slanted risers with matching veneer. I installed neo magnets under the front board veneer and made new 1/2" grill frames and installed banana plug terminals. Redid the E2 xovers with Solen 400VDC caps and bypass cap on parallel woofer cap. First time using this veneer and I'm spraying with satin lacquer. Still need more coats and then rub down.
  11. Friend of mine had these with original mahogany cabinets that were kinda banged up and we decided to reveneer them in figured quartered etimoe veneer. These are the vertical horn Cs. I sanded these down then veneered with the etimoe and used 1/2" solid bubinga wood trim. Installed horizontall and back brace and repainted the backs and veneered the risers in etimoe to match. Updated the xover from B to B2 with new Sonicaps. They sound very good and my friend loves them. I redid another set in cherry two years ago.
  12. I vote for center channel if you have the room. You might want to check out DeanG's crossover upgrade while you're at it if you haven't already done so. Good luck. I built a pair of cabinets with curved side with all RF7ii parts and it sounded great. Should be a killer cc.
  13. Thanks James. I'll post more when they are finished. First time I've used this veneer and I really like it.
  14. Sold!! Another set in the oven. 1984 H's with new quartered figured eucalyptus veneer and teak lumber trim. Here's a quick peek.
  15. Editing completed. I tried to do that before but couldn't figure it out. I'm smarter 4 days later! Thanks for the motiviation Neil!
  16. Hi Gary. That's tempting. A friend of mine just made the drive. I'll keep that in mind.
  17. I've check this thread and can't find a schematic for a Quartet crossover. Anyone got one? Thanks. Ken
  18. Couple of more pics on these 1975 Heresys. These show the risers and the glitch. Thanks
  19. Couple of more pics on these 1975 Heresys. These show the risers and the glitch. Thanks
  20. Hi Ned, I mean Nivroc, I've got a friend here in Little Rock that I've redone two sets of C's for and he has another set of CBR's (baltic birch ply) that someone stained. Just put a new Crites 15" woofer in one. Don't know if he's willing to sell them or not but I could mention it to him. The grills need to be redone but the cabinets are in good shape. I think Birmingham is about 6 hour drive from the Rock.
  21. Hi AV, Yes and no. Only one set for sale but I said 1977 Heresys in initial post and they are 1975 model (I have another pair I'm about to redo that are "R" = 1977. Photos are of the 1975 model (N). I'll post more pics of the riser and blemish tomorrow after I take them tonight.
  22. Another correction, this is the E crossover. Below is pic. Okay, I'm really not a blundering idiot, seriously!!
  23. Blimey, I think you're right on the N!!! I have another pair of H's ready to redo which are the "R"s. Thanks for catching that. I'll correct the post to show 1975. THESE ARE 1975 NOT 1977!!!!!!!!! Sorry for confusion!!!
  24. Forgot blemish pic and riser pic. Risers are hard to photograph due to shadow issues at time I took pics.
  25. Serial numbers 43R179 and 180. I sanded down the walnut veneer, cut out all corners to apply 3/4" solid hormigo lumber, applied marbled etimoe veneer on tops, bottoms, sides and fronts. Installed neo magnets under from veneer, built new 1/2" grill, recapped E2 xover with Solen caps, installed new 14 gauge not fancy wire inside, ran horizontal side to side internal braced repainted the backs black, built new slanted risers using same veneer, applied 6 coats of wipe on poly satin, Bumped the top back veneer on one spot and had to splice in veneer to match. Hard to see from 3 feet away but gotta divulge that glitch. See pics AHHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! (Yeah, I know I should have been more careful!) Will post better pics of risers. I glued on thin foam rubber on tops of risers to keep speaker from sliding. I drilled screw holes in the riser for those that want to permanently attach to speaker. K-22 woofers, K-55v mids and K-77 round magnet tweeters. All work great. $700.00 plus actual shipping charges. I'm in Little Rock if anyone wants to see them. I'll post more pics after word today. Thanks.
