  1. Okay, finished project and delivered yesterday. Here are the final pics. These babies sound great! I used Bob Crites 1228
  2. Thanks guys. Got a little work done this weekend - staining per customer request. Should start applying poly tonight if it's not too hot. Attached are pics showing clone on left and redone Heresy on build in rise on right and first coat of stain.
  3. I can tell by the virtual avalanche of views and responses this thread is up for post of the year. At the risk of looking and sounding foolish I will press on and pose EVEN more pics of my progress. I have erected chicken wire in front of my monitor to block any garbage flying out of my monitor.
  4. I know the cows just left the barn but thought I would address the question posed. You could take the RC7 components and place them in a larger box and get lower bass response (probably without changing the crossover but Dean and others can chime in). I built a larger CC for a guy using the RC7 components and the bottom end was stronger. Specs on the K1083 woofers ar 43 hz fs, .36 qt, 35 lit vas. They are 8 ohm (6.3ohm revc). Once you have the T/S specs you can use various programs to run cabinet size and port dimensions if you want to go that route. Dean G can probably help with a mod on the tweeter end if you contact him. Good luck
  5. A friend of mine got these Heresy wannnabbeees from a friend for a good price. He's hired me to rebuild the cabinets and install Crites 1228 woofers. They have T-35 tweeters and Atlas PD5VH mid drivers with cast aluminum mid horn (no number), non Klipsch xover and Radio Shack 12" woofers. Cabinets were larger than H's and had slot port at bottom and were scratched up and dented walnut but were well constructed. Looks like a cabinet shop built them. I couldn't come up with any numbers in cabinet to identify them but they don't appear to be Speakerlab products. So far I've removed all the speakers and the homemade looking xovers, filled in the front bottom vent, cut the front edges flush, knotched the top sides to allow cherry trim, veneered in aircraft grade cherry veneer, and installed front solid cherry trim on one. The front trim is 3/4"thick and the grill frame will set in the trim flush. I was rocking along pretty good on these till I had a diverticulitis attack that threw me in the hospital for 3 days. Hope to get back on these pretty soon if the weather breaks a little. Spritzed some water on ther last pic to show grain. Pics attached. I have to say I'm impressed with Bob Crites woofers. They measured out at 97 db and 31 Hz fs.
  6. TC, Great work but I do have a few criticisms. 1. Your workshop is way too clean. 2. Your painting skills greatly exceed mine, 3. You're not building a pair for me. Wowsers!!! Those look great. Keep up the good work and keep posting
  7. Thanks Moray. I have the SMX2151 15" woofer with .385 qt and 49fs at 97db. Looks good in 5.6cf ported enclosure.
  8. AVGUY, I may be late but attached is the TS specs I got when I tested a K-31 woofer. Glad to know there's another Little Rock area guy on the forum. Good luck.
  9. Hi Moray, as always I appreciate your comments. Since this cabinet is about 3cf I may just go with the Heresy 3 way since I have the components and xovers. I've got two sets of Heresys in cabinets that I've been meaning to redo the cabinets and upgrade the caps but haven't had the time. I may just go with those components in a bigger box which should give me better bass. I've done this before and the sound was great (see Pic with Heresy components in bigger box (with PE 8 x 12" horn)). The cabinet may be a bit too small for the EV2121 15" woofers which I also have which are knockout woofers.
  10. Hi Michael, thanks for the post. I'm leaning toward the Heresy type components in this cabinet right now. I've got two EV 920-8B 12" coaxials I could try in these but haven't run the numbers yet on that setup.
  11. TC, Great build thread. I'm in Little Rock not too far away. I've thought about trying to build the Jubes or Jamborees and a friend here wants me to try. My problem is I have not place to put them in my house! No speakers downstairs per wife's order and I sure ain't lugging them upstairs to my media room (again no good corners up there. They're too big for my office so I need a customer that has room. 4 x 8ft BB is $55 a sheet here. I love the stuff. How many sheets did you use in the build? If you're up in LR give me a shout and I'll buy you a cup of coffee.
  12. Thanks Budman, I thought it would be close after I measured last night but haven't put one of my K-77 tweeter up to it. Looks like it is rear mounted since there is no cutout to allow front mounting. I've got some 8 x 12" PE horns that I used in other setups that sound good I can use if I decide to modify the motorboard. I also have some EVX2121 15" woofers that could work in this cabinet but I'll need to the numbers to see f3 etc. Thanks.
  13. Thanks for responses guys this helps. Sounds like a tall task to find two K-1000 mid horns. If i'm going to not recut the motorboard then I'll have to get the matching tweeter as well. I may end up recutting the board for a larger mid horn and possible tweeter horn or I could go with a two way????? Lots to think about. Frizninvt, my wife thinks I'm crazy when I quote lines from the Pink Panther movies. I get so tickles I'm about to cry and she just sits and looks at me like I've lost my mine. One of my favorite quotes on the boooommmbb. "Does your dog bite????"
  14. Mid slot is 7 7/8" wide x 1 3/16" high. Tweeter slot is 4.25" wide x 1 5/8" high.
  15. A very nice and generous forum member provided three empty cabinets to me and I'm considering how to renovate them. The cabinets are only 1/2" walls with no bracing with a long tall slit in the back to allow some partial horn loading along the sides. I'm thinking of rehabbing these and using Heresy components. The mid horn cutout is only 1.5" tall so a Heresy horn won't work and I'll have to recut. I calculated about 3cf internally which is larger than the 2cf Heresy cabinet. I plan on removing the front board and adding 1/2" mdf to cut down vibrations with some front to back and side to side bracing and replace any broken parts. I'm not sure how the Heresy woofers would work in the slot loaded horn. Anyone know what woofer was used in this model. I may just have to do some listening. Cabinet is too small for a K-33. I plan on using all new top board veneered in cherry as well as the motorboard and flanking solid wood panels on the front. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.
  16. I may be too little too late on fixing the cone tear. A friend of mine uses very thin black nylon netting from a fabric store like that used on veils. He attaches it to the back of the cone with a thin layer of clear glue than adds thicker layers on the back and a very think layer on the front side to mainly cover the rear (no netting on the front). I remember that DJK uses black leather shoe dye (Walmart) with a squeeze on applicator on cones and says it adds very little mass once it dries. Good luck
  17. Those are great woofers. Built a pair of RF7s using them. You can get the all cerametallic updated cone used in the RF7ii for the same price (I paid $155.00 each plus shipping as I recall. Of course then you have to use the RF7ii crossover and the newer horn and driver. Built a pair of the RF7ii with the original parts - including crossovers and they sounded great. Should sound great as cc but box has to be big enough for low end (around 4cf would be great). Good luck with the sale.
  18. I stopped by Bob's two days ago and picked up a tweeter diaphragm. He's a little short handed now and working long hours. Great service and he took the time to visit with me even though he is very busy.
  19. Does anyone have a schematic for the KSF-C5 center channel?
  20. Nearly finished. I have 6 coats of poly on now with one more to go. Paint backs and bottom and build grill frames and install components and I'll be doing some listening and testing.
  21. You could use a smaller cabinet and tune it higher to use as a cc. Should be able to input the drive specs and get the right box size for 60-70hz f3. Port lengths would definitely change. You could probably go deeper to make up some volume. Or you could use 30"H x 15"w x 15" d internal dimensions which give you about 4cf and use the same ports.
  22. Cinama_head you are correct. RF7ii is about 3.94cf v RF7 3.65 (inside dimensions subtracting 1.5" from outside dimensions for cabinet wall thickness and not subtracting for drivers/bracing/vent etc displacement).
