  1. yikes That qts is crazy, I haven't seen anything close to that other than the soundsplinter premiums. Most people recommend sealed enclosure for high qts values (.5), 1 is almost unheard of With an spl of 84 and an xmax of only 5mm, even with a bigger amp rated at its power handling (300w), itd have a hard time keeping up with anything but a small bookshelf system I think. You can get raw drivers with serious potential for not a lot of money. I'd check out tcsounds.com Back to your question. Sealed?
  2. Right now I am using the digital coax out on my computer to listen to 100% of my music, stored as mp3's on my computer; just send it to the digital coax in on the receiver. Unless I'm told otherwise, I think this is a pretty good way of doing it "quality" wise, compared to burning the songs to cd's and using some kind of dedicated cd player. DAC's being used are the one's in the denon, not my soundcards'. As of next fall though, I don't plan to have my computer anywhere near my speakers. What are my options, other than to run a very long rca, and not be able to change songs without doing 3 flights, or buy a laptop to put next to my receiver. It seems like there should be a "pocket" mp3 player out there with a digital out, or at least stereo rca preouts. Does anyone know of one? Cd-r's are cheap enough, so I could consider a high volume cd changer. What would you guys do? Thanks
  3. Hi, just out of curiousity, why do you recommed the db500 over the 1k (i am pretty much sold on ported for the money). Less displacement/$$, lower sensitivity, higher fs and qts. Thanks
  4. buttkicker + tc1k or mach5 ixl is $400 ish. destroy my adire..... see you in a couple weeks
  5. ?!?!, my dorm room is 300 sq ft. Either he has a 6 person job, or thats cubic feet.....
  6. It is a dorm room Gotta love the looks from first time guests, followed by the expressions when I turn them on, and the same question every time, (why? and where do you get all this money?) or the front desk receptionist when I hauled them in, the classic head shake. First day I had them hooked up, I downloaded a music alarm clock on my computer than allows you to play any song to wake up to. Room mate almost fell off the top bunk, Megadeth, Devils Island, at 100db, 9:30 am. Can't decide what to buy after arky's matching center- sub, or emotiva mps-1... Have pictures of your 83's somewhere?
  7. Catharsis, you seem to already have the system I intend to acquire when I have money.. So, have you ever wished you had the rs-7's? Enough smart people on here with the money to have 75's instead of the rs's don't, and I wonder why. The only reason I can see having the rs's is if you had a HUGE seating area. My thoughts...
  8. I'm seriously considering it because of the cost of the other options. I thought about using rc-7 rears, but those are the same $$ per pair as rf-7's. Rb-75's look to be close as well. I can't believe how much those bookshelf's go for. Does anyone know if the rb-81 cherry would match a rf-7? Thanks
  9. How about the rb-75's? They seem like a better match than the other two possibilities, the rb-35, and rb-81. Just wondering about the finishes
  10. you think those 'll look like the 7's? Looks like the rf-35 veneer to me, but I've never seen them. Hope you're right []
  11. I am looking for surrounds and rear surrounds (7.1) to use with my rf-7's and future rc-7, and was wondering if there are any small speakers (surround or bookshelf) that came in the same beautiful cherry finish. The rb-5 II looked promising, but the rear port seems like a bad idea, some day I might want them against a wall. I'm not looking for the rf-15 type kind of cherry. Any ideas?
  12. After laying in bed for the last 30 minutes, intoxicated and unable to fall asleep due to fantasizing about an mps-1 and a fathom, I decided to find a thread to comment on, and landed here.... Once again, congratulations keith, I'm proud of you. BTW, you didn't let everyone know we picked up the speakers from a crazy old guy in a retirement center, with that entire setup in a 10x10 room. I think he should have kept his k-horns for that place. Imagine the receptionist' expression if he had those carried in..... I'll be back in town on the 27th to hear the denon

I think "Regal" cinema's are klipsched...
  14. "The large full horn loaded Klipsch speakers demand a sub that extends to below 20hz and does so with ease." What are you listening to? I have a hard time convincing myself to even turn the sub on for 2-channel I'm all about having huge bass and headroom to spare, especially for dvd's- Just trying to be a whisper of reason for a guy that might not need 112db at 20hz. I don't think the size of the room has even been mentioned, which is probably a bigger factor than listening habits.
  15. I a/b'd kg1's against rf15's in my room xover'd at 80hz to my sub, and liked the kg's better. They are serious little speakers. As long as they're not going to be responsible for under 80hz, which they wouldn't be, I'd say go for it.
  16. I believe all of these guys that $2000+ subwoofers are just unbelievable, but my sub will do 112db at 30hz, and i built it at a total cost of $400. (sq, sealed sub too). you could get those numbers for $300 im sure. Depending on your listening levels, you might need need dual fathoms........
  17. I must retract my post.... got out the db meter again, blue line is rf-7's. Pink is with sub added. Is it perfect on paper, HELL NO! Sounds awesome. Dorm room = +/- 5 from high 20's Bumpy response isn't bad, it's exciting....... [*-)]
  18. I just bought rf-7's and initially tried to integrate my sub with them (adire/bash diy), but I decided not to for 2-channel. With the handy free nch tone generator and my db meter, the rf-7's "-3" is under 30 hz in my room, with the denon's bass at 0 (obviously set to large). I can't possibly see dealing with crossover/blending issues for under 30hz. Note: my room is 1700 sq ft (dorm room), and I could easily see needing reinforcement in larger rooms. I plan on using 2 in my apartment's basement next fall.
  19. I could tell a huge differences in my kg1's with them on as opposed to off. The grill really toned the tweeter down. I haven't noticed a difference w/ the rf grills.
  20. " So did you get a chance to hear any of "grandpa" arky's other speakers? " I listened to his main system of cornscala's and cornwalls' and they were excellent. Not quite good enough to make me rethink the 7's though.......... "Speaking of those "Klipsch road trips," you and I might have to go on one this summer to find me some RF-35s Alex..." I don't know where I'm working yet, might have to be a weekend job.... "If you're Aaron, no offense, but you don't look near as nice as his last 'tripper. " haha, for sure... I'm sure she appreciates the compliment. yea, he offered to hook them up to his amp in the main room, and I almost said yes, but decided to not be dissapointed once they were in my room... On the way home, after listening to jon and I discuss speaker/klipsch/forum stuff for a pretty brief period, she says, "Alex, you better not be an old guy sitting on that forum talking about your speakers." No reply.... Aaron lives 2 doors down and is now donating plasma for a klipsch/beer fund. I understand his situation though, not buying beer to save for speakers takes more willpower than the average msu student can muster.. If it weren't for my big win at the casino (nl texas hold 'em), I wouldn't have these beauties
  21. gonna have to change your signature there Thanks again, they're beautiful
  22. haha, thanks aaron, glad to see you are becoming a klipscher.
  23. next fall I'll have a bigger place, I can't wait, especially because I'll have the emotiva by then too.... I considered room treatments, but I'll only be here 5 more weeks.
  24. Saturday I picked up forum member Arky's beautiful cherry dean g'd rf-7's! Now I have $9 and one less heresy... There's nothing I can say about these speakers that hasn't been said, but they're just awesome. I have never enjoyed my acoustic guitar and live stuff so much. I was 5% scared about the high end because of my room, but it's perfect. I occasionally put the denon at -2 on the treble. Future investments: John's matching rc-7, mps-1 (only 2 channel for now), rs-7's, 3 more channels on the mps, subwoofers, rear surrounds, 2 more channels. TV that guitar is super custom by the way..
  25. hey, i think it's 350 a piece for those f-3's new, w/ the bb discount, not 350 together.
