  1. Dave, I totally agree. No quarrel at all. But like I said, it doesn't matter, the kids buying pop music are driving the industry not us guys.
  2. I wont be able to A/B until I get your pair. I'm out by the curb, are they coming soon? Hey, wait a minute that's not rosewood.
  3. Don't sweat the small stuff. It's looking like no media will be loaded to any disc in the future. We'll still be talking about formats but it will all be down loaded from the cloud. I'll still be scrounging in the used CD bins...Oh and I'll take an SACD if it's in there, I can play that.
  4. I walk on both sides of this fence and I can say that the two loudspeakers ARE really chalk and cheese. Planers and horns are certainly dramatically different solutions with much different characteristics.
  5. Doesn't make any sense in the context of what I'm saying I guess I'm the master of spouting off and not making sense....so I may as well continue, lol. The thread title was "SACD, what went wrong". My loosely expressed thoughts were basically saying, it doesn't mater why it went wrong technically, it was simply rejected by the mass consumer and it died. The mass consumer rejected all hi-res formats, that is until Blu-Ray came along, who knows why (most likely is because the bins at Walmart weren't filled with SACD discs)? Then to further that line of thought, 2 channel guys supported all the hi-res formats but compared to the mass consumer, our support mattered not one whit. Then progressing even more, dedicated 2 channel guys, like me, are not really looking at multichannel formats but in the end it doesn't matter because audiophiles are not the ones defining the popular formats. The statement that 2 great channels is better than 4/5/7 goods ones was just a personal interjection and can be considered off topic. However the average guy with a cheap stereo (or a really great stereo) or a guy with a HTIB does not care about SACD (or any format other than what they already have). Is that making more sense?
  6. Make me a pair and I'll give them a listen. Oh, rosewood would be nice so it matches my Heresys.
  7. Yeah, my room looks just like that, slightly different rug but otherwise it's just like that....in my dreams.
  8. You have some listening experience with Avalon Eidolons?
  9. Because two great channels sound better than 4/5/7 good ones.
  10. They also made the sub for the Infinity Servo Static IIA system, a very fine system.
  11. The ONLY thing that matters is how it sounds, I don't care how a person gets there.
  12. 2 channel only for me, I only have movie audio through my 2 channel rig because it's just one pair of cables and my pre-amp had room for a pair.
  13. I bought a CA 640 to run my Dad's Moth Audio single driver speakers, sounds good with the right cables.
  14. True, I think that setup in the video needs some serious adjusting, it sounds like my computer speakers. Maybe he needs a cable change?
  15. Yep. Dead as vinyl... Dave To be fair, vinyl sales are up while SACD sales are down in the noise. And just because a few old audio guys are playing 45s doesn't make it the popular format.
  16. You should have. Dave Why start now? SACD is still dead, right?
  17. KHorns are crying out for a tube amp....
  18. I didn't read all the posts but the real bottom line on the rejection of SACD is simple, the market rejected it. Millions of purchasers made the choice that they didn't want SACD. It matters not what the technical advantages were, the market spoke, and it's done.
  19. I'm guessing some of your music is newer than that? I run all tube set-ups. Bare chassis tube amps, tube pre-amp and the whole works but I run modern CDs players. There are no good arguments for running vintage CD players for any other reason than looks but at that point you are not talking audio anymore you are decorating.
  20. I'm guessing these are not current models? My friend in the business said he doesn't sell used CD players because there is no way to tell the hours on the laser and laser replacements are expensive or impossible on some machines.
  21. Timothy Leary For my Lady and just about every thing else!
  22. Thanks for posting, Justin is a real nice guy, I've seen them 3 times. They are getting up in age now, not sure how many shows they have left. Oh, if you don't have the Blue Jays album, it's a real good one.
  23. Everything in your system should work well together. I can recommend some solid core copper speaker cable (AQ Type 2 is cheap). It will definitely smooth the top end a bit. The only other idea is perhaps changing the tubes, thinking you may have a bad tube or one that is microphonic.
  24. I try to keep it simple. Pro amps are for pro usages. Home audio is a different application.
