  1. Hello all, looking for some advice. My current ht is 5.0- no sub due to apartment life. I have KLF-20s up front, c7 center, and KT-LCR for surrounds. Sounds great but.... I have purchased a beat up KLF-10 that needs some tlc and was considering making it a center. Without a sub, I wanted to experiment with more bass from running the center as large. No parts needed, easy project. In researching the fourums, I saw other legend conversions, specifically 20s and 30s. I am looking for advice on the possibility on turning my KLF-10 project into a Hybrid 20. I would use the 10 cabinet, with the 10 woofers(already tuned for that enclosure). I currently have a spare tweeter from another 20. I would need to add the proper crossover and mid. With the new crossover, the woofers would be cut off at a much lower freq. I believe that would be OK. the difference in sensitivity between the 10s and 20s is 2 db. Unsure of the sonic impact of that. Any advice, opinions or addition ideas please! Thanks Mike
  2. Hello all. I am looking for some feedback from anyone who has replaced/upgraded their poly tweeters with the titaniums. The new diaphrams are sold by Bob Crites and are very affordable as far as starting an upgrade tweek. The speakers that would be being modified are a set of KLF-20s, C-7, and KT-LCR being used as surrounds. The C-7 has upgraded caps. 50/50 music/movies. Marantz receiver. I do like the current sound but am curious what changes could be heard. If the tweeters are changed in the 20s, should the mids be lefted stock? Thanks.
  3. American Idol Is unique entertainment. Love it or hate it, not much room in between. For me it was a great time to share with my daughter each week. It provides excellent oppurtunities to talk to her about not only different music types and the artists that performed them, but also that your dreams can come true. It also shows that you can not come in first and still feel good about yourself. I am still trying to figure out what to tell her about the goofy auditions. Although strangly entertaing, I try to shellter from them. For the aspiring singers, they have alot of guts to get up in front of millions and risk embarresment like forgotten lyrics. Sometimes life can be as simple as being in the right place at the right time. I think that Daughtry could front many of today's edgy sounding rock bands.
  4. Dan, Check this item # out on ebay. He was my original source and is offering more. Quick shipper, well packed. If you let hem know how yours were packed maybe shipping can be negotiated. 200219513996 Glad to here of success on pair # 1 Mike
  5. Dan, It will be a bit of a headache with the crossovers. I had a damaged crossover and could not find a replacment anywhere. Klipsch had sold out of these some time ago and It did not sound like any replacments from them would be coming up. I ended up at a local speaker repair center and they did a very nice job with the repair(South Florida Speaker Repair). As for the wooders, I see them show up on Ebay. These maybe available directly from Klipsch. I do have 4 myself that are "new-old stock". These were purcahsed on Ebay for a project that I am no longer working on. If you have any interest in them you can contact me. Good luck
  6. Hello, I just picked up a pair of the KLF-20s from a semi-local source. They will be replacing a set of 10s in my current set up. I had previously redone the xovers in the 10s and noticed a difference that I did say was a improvement, although I couldn't descibe the difference in words. I was planning to do the same to the 20s but I will tell you that the difference between the 10s and 20s about knocked me out of my chair. The 20s have a sound that I am very pleased with. All of the music that I have listened to (stereo) has sounded much different (better) thatn the 10s. I like projects and the tweakerin me says upgrade the xovers. My question is on the 20s, what kind of improvment/gain can I achieve? Thanks for any input on this!
  7. Hello all, I'm trying to work out a purchase fo KLF-20s from another forum member. I believe he is in the NY area and I am in FL. He was trying to track down the safest/most reasonable shipping price today. One number he got was approaching $150 per speaker. Ouch! Any information on shipping, sending or receiveing would be helpful. Anything from packing methods, carriers used, freight, etc. Thanks
  8. Hello, I am in south Fl, quite far from you. I have been interested in purchasing a pair of KLF-20s for some time, and now am pursuing that want. I wanted to try to barter some of my used Klipsch gear towards it because of a forced downsizing. That may not be something you are interested in, you could let me know. I believe you still have these speakers, let me know if theyhave been sold. If you have them and are interested in selling, and if youy can pack and ship securely, please let me know your price. If interested, please check out my listing on the garage sale section, something in there might fit your father's taste. Thanks
  9. I have 3 KSS-2s that I uses as a front stage in a gameroom setup. Two okf them were originally purchased for surround use only and they worked well in that situation. I have since purchace a second set and use 1 of those as a center. I have no experience with the matching sub and had difficulty matching any of my existing subs to them. I took a chance on a SW-8 sub based on specs and have been pleasently surprised with the blend. I run the fronts L/R as large and feed directly to the speaker level of the sub, then out of the sub to the front. This takes advantage of the subs 120hz high pass xover with the KSS-2s 115hz bottom end. Not the ideal design concept but it provides a good sound.I set the center to small. It was a small investment for the SW-8, less than 100 deliverd from ebay. Well worth the money.

    Marantz

I am using a Marantz 8500 receiver with the legend line. Very happy, no regrets leaving Onkyo. Try the web site http://www.accessories4less.com/ . They are an authorized dealer of both new and reconditioned gear. My 8500 had a list of $1500 new, picked it up for $800 reconditioned with full warrenty.
  11. The KSP-S6 are the best match that I have heard for movies and that is what I currently use in my setup. I used to use the RS-3 for surrounds, and they performed quite well. While not the best match for pitch, I actually prefered the surround affect with the later setup. I always run my surrounds a little louder than proper levels, just a personal thing. I would like to experiment with two more C-7s for the surrounds. That would be a great surround for music.
  12. Thanks for the good advice. I will wait and see what life had in store for me before I make any plans. Thank you for your encouragement also.
  13. My wife has invited me to move out of our house. I expect my new place to be smaller in space that what I currently have. My current system consists of KLF-10 mains, C-7 center, KSP-S6 surrounds, and a 15" velodyne sub. The system is powered by a Marantz 8500 reciever (125w x 7). I expect to keep the Marantz but feel the rest of the system will be overkill New system will be used 75/25 (music/movies). Musicical taste runs from rock to jazz to blues. A sub may not be an option depending on apartment living. I will probably start with 2 or 3 channel and do prefer the sound of 3 identical fronts. I am currently looking at the RB-81 and the Heresy III. I have found no place to demo the heritage. Big price difference, but would like to do this only once so I could spring for the extra $. I am looking for info on the difference is sound between the 2 different series of speakers. Do they need to be pushed to sound good or dynamic or do they perform well at moderate levels? Which speaker could I expect to be more satisfing without a sub?( I do have an SW8-II) What other aspects should I be considering? Thanks for all input-Happy New Year!
  14. I use a CHT-15 with a KLF-10, KLF-C7, KSP-6 set up and am quite happy with that combo. Plenty of output and depth from the sub. I have been looking for a second one to experiment with in the system. If it dosen't work for you, let me know, I would be interested in it.
  15. I went thru a situation like this with my wife also. I had the RS-3, alot smaller than the RS-7. My wife said no way. I took a chance and painted them to match the walls, a golden tone. I removed the grills and painted the entire cabinet the gold(removing the drivers first). My wife was quick to show of the speakers to all who would come into the house as if they were some sort of decoration or art work. She still frowns at me when I watch movies at decent play back levels, but I save the good ones for when the house is all mine ! I always try to do something big or important for my wife before I ask for something for myself, this also helps prime her for my "small" requests.
  16. This post is to the forum member who contacted me about KSP-s6 crossover repair. When I received mine they had both cabinet damage and a broken in half crossover. Thanks to some forum members advise, I used some wood "bondo" on the cabinet for repair. Easy to work with. I had concerns about matching the black vinyl covering, and decided to try something different. I painted the top and bottoms with a product that simulates a stone finish. Fleck-stone mabey? Off the shelf at Home Depot. It really past the "wife acceptance factor" test, because if shes not happy..... well you know if your blessed to be married! I also finished my KLF c7 rebuilt cabinet( vertically stacked with the tweeter on top) with the same finish. I can't say how it will affect resale value, but am quite with my current set up, no salew in my near future. To the meat of the subject, I had a local speaker repair shop( South Florida Speaker Repair ) do the work. I had considered doing itg myself, but I was working with a very honest and consiterate seller from ebay. We came to what we both felt was an equitable compromise on the final price. My purchase price was around $415 with shipping. The seller sent me a check for around $167. My cost for the crossover repair was $20. The repair was not very complicated. 6 traces needed solderd and they put some type of epoxy on the component side of the board. Bottom line Is they sound and look good. My out the door price was very fair, so I am sure that any resale issues would not leave me in the hole, as I would of course disclose the speakers history. If you are looking for a great surround speaker, attempt the repair. Try to work with the seller with a open communication and workout an equitable solution. If your are in to perfection, then mabey ask for a refund. I am happy that I went thru with the repair.
  17. Thanks for the info guys. I don't believe I have ever seen or heard of the thx sub on the forums. What makes it meet thx spec? My guess would be spl or a rolled of bottom end. This weekend I will set the system up in place of my current system and enjoy some favorite dvds. The comment on the vertical center channel does not come as a shock. In my current set up I have a KLF-C7. I had experimented with it vertically with good results. I built a new cabinet for it with the tweeter on top, and even my wife noticed a difference in sound. At the time of the cabinet rebuild I also replaced the caps in the 7 as well as my KLF-10s. Although It does sound differnt to me, and I could say better, it is hard for me to say just how. I do not know if it is due to the speakers 2-way design vs a 3-way, or if it is just my ears, a 1-way design! Thanks again for the info VNZBD
  18. Hello Klipsch forum This weekend I picked up the KT thx system(3-lcr & 2-ds). They are the light oak version. I hooked them up to an older Onkyo reciever to demo. I must say I was surprised by the sound. Much nicer than expected. I am curious to what the street price is typically for this set as well as what thier popularity back in the 90s. I haven't seen them mentioned on the forum before, or advertised for sale. I remember seeing an ad in Stereo Review for these speakers, it had a Star Wars theme to it. That ad was what got me hooked to stereo/home theater. Thanks for any input. VNZBD
  19. Hey Kestrel, The garage would be much to harsh for the 30s. They would be welcomed in my ac. If you are interested in selling, I am in S FL, so shipping headachs could be avoided. Let me know. Thanks VNZBD
  20. Hello Klipsch experts. Several days ago I asked for help with cabinet repair on a Ebay deal on KSP-S6s. I got some great responces and was ready to go to work. Upon disassembling the cabinets to repair the damage, I found that the crossover board had also been damaged. It has broken completely in two, with only components holding it together. The seller is willing to assist with the cost of a new crossover as well as the cabinet repair, and still wants to avoid Fedex, so we are working together towards a solution. The bad news is that Klipsch no longer stocks that crossover. The part # is 116397. Does anybody have any advice on repair/replacement of this crossover ? Thanks for any suggestions
  21. Thanks for the replies.I will be calling Fedex today to get their story on refund/damage control. I missed out on many a set of the S6 on Ebay by being outbid at the last moment,so I am very reluctant to let these go.Thanks for the grill offer. the grill on the damaged cabinet is also dinged, I believe it can be fixed, but if not I will contact you for price and shipping. Thanks again.
  22. I am looking for some advise on speaker cabinet repair. Today I received a pair of KSP-S6 that I had won on an Ebay auction. They were damaged in shipment. The bottom of one of the cabinets is crushed on the front lip under the right woofer. The seller is willing to assist in the cost of repairs. They were shipped Fedex ground, and I've been told it is up to a two month process for a result on a claim to them. I called our local speaker repair company but they don't do cabinets. I called three cabinet makers and got three different stories. New cabinets @ $300-400. Puddy and paint both cabinets for exact color match @100-150. Won't say how long finish would last painting over vinyl finish. And the third said the job was too small.I'm not the best finish carpenter, but I might attempt to do the repair myself. Does wood putty work well with mdf? Can the vinyl be painted? Any suggestions or prior experience stories with this problem is appreciated. Thank you Klipsch Forum experts!
  23. Try the KSF-S5. I had them with my set of 10.5s, great sound. check on ebay.
