  1. I can't handle it any more. The laughter ie just too much. I went to a wedding tonight and experienced the usual free bar except that my wife exactually agreed to drive home. This is not normal. I think the multiple Absolute and tonics finally got to me. One should not have to come home and read such hilarious and original content. This is why I turned the computer off before I left. I guess I did not do a good enough job. Keep the creative Bose stuff coming. Your contributions are most excellant. JT
  2. Ed, where do i get one of those? I always get: "do you have to have the stereo on to watch a movie?" I will sometimes fall a sleep while listening to music, and she asks, "how can you sleep with that stereo on?" I wish it relaxed her as much as it does me. At least she doesn't listen to Billy Ray Cirus (sp?) anymore. She also thought Garth Brooks did a great job writing "Shameless", oh the agony! Hats off to ED!!
  3. I have never read it, but I was interested in getting a couple of issues to see what it was all about. I like their philosophy of: no price is too small. The only think I don't like is that it is only 6 issues a year. I am just so sick of Stereophile. I got the latest issue this week and the feature is the new Krell loud speakers. There are 10 dealers for these speakers and they cost $37,000 a pair. I get the idea of wanting to read about them as a dream pair for the normal audio enthusiast, but to have them as your feature review is crazy. I think the cheapest speaker they reviewed this month was $10,000 a pair. I also have S&V, but that can be a bit too mainstream sometimes. Let us know how you like Listener.
  4. Thanks Ray, you never cease to amaze.
  5. Sorry, their site will not let me link right to the editorial. Use the above link then click on "Editorial" which is under "July / August 2001." The link is under the picture of the cover. I hope this helps.
  6. While perusing the Listener website I came across this editorial: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/listener/ All I can say is, Bravo!!! Happy listening and enjoy! JT
  7. While having a little fun in a different strand with DougDrake2, he mentioned the lack of a Bose Bulletin Board. The quote was: "I bet they don't have this much fun on the Bose bulletin board. Whoops, I guess that's 'cause they don't have one!" Well what if they had one? I responded with a couple of possible posts: Finishes: "I wanted a new finish for my surround system so I found a nice bottle of black nail polish. I painted all five speakers and still have some left for future touch ups if needed." Speaker placement: "So I have been playing around with my speaker placement to see how it would look. The problem is I forgot where I placed the surrounds and I don't have them wired yet. I usually follow the string like wire to the cubes, but I disconnected the speaker wire for ease of moving, bad back." These are not the most billiant examples, but you get the point. What example posts can the rest of you BB members come up with? Disclaimer: This is just for fun and it should be taken as a joke. We don't really dislke Bose speakers, it is just the noise that comes out of them. This message has been edited by decibel man on 07-20-2001 at 08:23 AM
  8. Oh, ah, yah, ditto that. Ed, you never cease to amaze us with your well spoken and detailed responses. It is good to have you "on board" no matter what color you see. Enjoy and happy listening! JT
  9. Laughter, lots of laughter! I wish Bose had a BB (not a Bigger Box either), it would be funny to see what kind of tweaks and such they would come up with. Finishes: "I wanted a new finish for my surround system so I found a nice bottle of black nail polish. I painted all five speakers and still have some left for future touch ups if needed." Speaker placement: "So I have been playing around with my speaker placement to see how it would look. The problem is I forgot where I placed the surrounds and I don't have them wired yet. I usually follow the string like wire to the cubes, but I disconnected the speaker wire for ease of moving." Just imagine the entertainment value! Happy listening and enjoy! JT
  10. Nicely put Mr. G. After such a respectful post I am embarassed to use your first name. I enjoy your light hearted humor and applaud your sensitivity for the organization that we love. A lot of us have those same feelings when we are away from this board and someone cracks our beloved horns. I for one have vented here on the board as many others have after a run in with a anti-Klipsch environment. It is kind of like family, we all should forgive and forget. Best regards to all the Klipschers, JT <- again, just my initials This message has been edited by decibel man on 07-18-2001 at 02:45 PM
  11. After further thought, I think it is important that I clarify my earlier post. Doug, I am not calling you a "Big Titilating Woman." This is just to avoid any confusion and three letter acronyms for a group of four letter words. JT <- initials, not an acronym!
  12. "Sorry, no matches were found" was a frequent response from search engines when looking for the Rectalinear speakers. BTW, Doug that is too funny! JT
  13. Can't we all just get along? JT
  14. TK, I use both coax and digital. I was in a spending mood and decided to try out a more expensive toslink for the DVD ($80). It sounds great, I also have a nice coax cable for my CD player and I have switched them on my DVD player to see which one sounds better and cannot tell a difference. I used optical for the DVD player because my other digital components have coax. With a optical cable connecting the DVD and coax cables connecting the CD and cable box it only leaves me one of each if I add another digital component. The optical cable I am using fits tight in both the receiver and the DVD, so I am not too worried about stability. You should give both a listen and also consider future components and the amount of digital inputs on your receiver. Good luck and enjoy!! JT
  15. There is going to be a whole influx of players this fall that will be well under the $500 mark that will bring some previously expensive high-end features with them. Toshiba will have a $400 progressive scan, DVD-Audio, DVD-Video player. Sony will have the same except theirs will have SACD instead of DVD-Audio. If you don't have a HDTV and you have a newer monitor you may want to go without the progressive scan feature, but the upgrade is getting very cheap. It kind of reminds me of the 2-head vs. 4-head VCR upgrade during the 80's and early 90's. There used to be a huge price difference, now I don't think you can find a 2-head VCR. I think the last VCR I bought on UBid for $60 delivered, has 6-heads and a whole bunch of other options my $350 Hitachi ('93) doesn't have. Happy hunting!! JT
  16. Holy @#*& Batman that isn't your regular garage sale list of used audio equipment. I hope this guy really needs the cash, because I can't imagine what he would be upgrading to. I can't bare to think about the seperation disorder that will ensue after this system is gone. And for crying out loud, I hope there aren't any divorce lawywers involved. I would write him a check, but this mortgage thing keeps coming up every month and my wife makes me pay it. Happy listening and enjoy! JT
  17. If I were to upgrade, it would not be the RF-5's, it would be some used Heritage speakers or the R*-7 line. Compared to the RF-3's the RF-5's also have a completely redesigned cabinet (different bracing and size/tuning), a different crossover design, they are more efficient, and the cabinet is real wood veneer. Although there are a lot of upgrades on paper, it better sound a lot better for twice the price. And what are the matching center and surrounds for the RF-5's, is it the RC-3 or RC-7 and likewise with the surrounds. Questions, questions, questions, we all have questions. JT
  18. Keep the Khorns for rears the cornwalls for front and rear centers and sell the rest along with your soul so you can get a pair of Jubilee's when they come out. Seriuosly though, we need some more info. Is this room just HT or is a family room also? What type of seating and for how many? And any other information you can provide. Good luck and enjoy! JT
  19. Ray, those WBT's are sweet. Just a little too pricy for my ears. If I had the dough ... Beday00 another option is www.accessories4less.com or www.partsexpress.com in Dayton. I have just been using some Audio Quest spades that have worked just fine. I have ordered different parts from both of the above and have had no problems. Partsexpress has a lot more stuff at their facility than what is typically found on their website. Go Tribe!
  20. Ray G. - yes! Classified yes yes!!
  21. Holy cables Batman!! I think I have my volume problem fixed for now. I was using both the volume from the SAE and the TV. I just turned the volume up all the way up on the SAE and then use the line level (not variable) audio outs on the TV. This way I can turn the volume all the way off on the TV without lowering the volume through the AVR. I use the analog input from the TV for VID 1 on the AVR with the dig coax as VID 2, the VCR is VID3, and the VID 4 is used for video camera playback. DVD has its own setting. I never thought I would be using five video sources (really four SAE/TV analog and SAE digital are the same unit). The thing that bugs me is the channels from 100 up have digital sound and the chennels below 99 have analog sound. I didn't think this was the norm with digital cable. It does end up helping me, because I don't need the the second SAE in the spare room to get the regular channels. I am pretty happy with the digital music channels. They have a nice variety and a decent play list. Happy listening and enjoy all! JT
  22. Belial, if you want, for cosmetic purposes, you can have Klipsch recone the speaker. That will be cheaper than replacing the $70 driver. JT
  23. I took the plunge. I now have the upgraded SAE 3100! Still just has dig coax and S-video (no component). I am truely impressed with 45 channels of music. It sounds very good. I have about 100 dig channels (including 45 music) and the other 84 are analog sound. I am having an issue with the analog sound, but I haven't completed the trial and error motions yet. I have the analog RCA outs going into the TV from the SAE and then the analog RCA outs from the TV going into my AVR7000. I really have to turn up the volume on the 7000 to get to listening level. I have to turn it up so loud that I am afraid of accidently changing the input on the 7000's remote and then my wife would come home and find me plastered to the rear wall. I have tried raising the TV and SAE volume, that hasn't worked. If my wife would just watch TV with the sound coming out of the 7000 this would not be a problem, but noooo. I will play with it some more. And I have cable modem coming on 6/29. I am going to be so lost not having to stare at a screen for five minutes as a site loads. JT
  24. I just built a pair of nice oak speaker stands. They are for a pair of B&W bookshelfs (my friend's). With a little bit of practice I could makes these for sale. I have a pretty complete workshop to make them and a good understanding of design. This pair has a fillable base for about 6 to 9 pounds of sand to help deaden the stands. They also have fully adjustable spikes. The finish is a nice oiled red oak with routered edges. What do you think these would be worth without seeing them, just a SWAG (scientific wild *** guess)? These stands are tall, 36" with a foot print of 10 1/2" X 9 1/2". I am not thinking about going into business, I am just curious. Thanks, JT
  25. Nick, you should also look at the Outlaw line of receivers. I have a Harmon Kardon that I love, but I know there are a lot of really happy Outlaw Klipschers. It seems to be the most bang for the buck available on the market today. Good luck and enjoy! JT This message has been edited by decibel man on 06-19-2001 at 08:32 AM
