BUt....i still opened em up !! One thing i wanted to know was........? the different styles of k horns they went A, B, C. one was and industrial "raw form horn and i think one was the full furniture version with the separation between the horn cab and folded horn,.with a rise at the bottom the other ,im trying to remember, was a more plain furniture cabinet with no split between the horn cabinet and folded horn..and no rise at the bottom am i right about these * the full furniture cabinet with the split and riser is the one im going for.. in fact..i think its the only one made now right? * how bout those deluxe finishes...?? or have they dropped em Thanx man Rob

Someday i look forwared to hearing a set I can see where it runs in the same class as the Klipschorn, and a select group of others. the 9' Stienway's of speakers very nice,..and thanks again Rob

  4. I see a set of Tannoy Guy R Fountain Corner Speakers on ebay. Not being completely familliar with all of the Tannoys, is it a horn design?,.. or something just shapped to fit in a corner. It looks like a very ellegant cabinet. typical of that era of Tannoy. Has anyone heard a set? Do they sound anything like the Westminster? (westminster is what my neighbor next door has These are BIG speakers. anyway's the guy's are still listed on ebay current bid :US $9,700.00 if anyones interested have fun., Rob

My brother used to work at a high-end audio salon in Tampa that sold loudspeakers from such manufacturers as EgglestonWorks, Thiel, Magnepan, Mission, Vandersteen, Dynaudio, Meridian, etc. When he mentioned our dad's Klipsch, the other employees would either laugh or sneer...never once did he experience a positive comment! Later when I visited another like salon, filled to the brim with lots of tube gear and loudspeakers from Definitive Technology, Epos, Paradigm, ProAc, McIntosh, Miage, NHT, Snell Acoustics, etc., and was looking at tube preamps, I was asked what loudspeakers I owned. When I told the salesman I owned Cornwalls, he gave me this look as if I had just farted and stunk up the joint! I've never patronized either audio retailers again. Most of my non-audiophile friends never even heard of Klipsch, but mention Bose, JBL or Polk Audio, and oh yes...they know them! Besides my dad's boss and a doctor our family knew years ago, I know of only friend who owns a pair of Klipsch KG 5.5 horn-speakers. Unfortunantly, he only bought them because he got them at a deep discount, and not because they sounded better than the Infinitis he also auditioned (if the Infinitis were cheaper, he would've bought them instead). He knows they're horns and that they're efficient, but he doesn't really appreciate them like we do; he's a computer geek who also has a stereo system (JVC A/V receiver and Toshiba DVD with no center channel or surround speakers; he did just purchase a Hitachi 57" rear projection HDTV monitor, but still has no plans to buy additional speakers for HT use). This Forum doesn't interest him in the slightest. Wish my experiences were better... ---------------- I have heard similar things... When i bought my 1981 Cornwalls, they were considererd top of the mark. I worked at a Audio dealer at the time , where we sold just about everything audio, and were lucky enough to carry many manufactures home and pro lines... I bought my cornwalls after hearing the owners Klipschorns the night before..at his home There was no question... i went down and put my $2600.00 canadian..for a pair of CWO Cornwalls with the risers. I had to have the exact same finish as the bosses cornerhorns... Didn't buy horns, because i didn't have two good corners to put em in.. But...the Cornwalls.....still had "that sound" But over time peoples perceptions change. Remember... these were the days when PWK was running the show. And at that time,..excluding PRO, what is known today as..."heritage" was the only thing that the home audio line offered.. Now there are many branches to the Klipsch tree. Yes i too have heard, ,Well they aint what they used to be,..or,.they used to be top of the line..but not anymore. The marketplace is so crowded with the "mid- line speakers . Perhaps people make that comparison to the heritage...and come up dissapointed, with the more moderate priced Klipsch speakers Because.... Heritage sounds different than any other speaker in the klipsch lineup. I also have heard offhanded comments from high end NON klipsch dealers One dealer gave to me "his greatest sympathys" for owning cornwalls But ....i put it down to them pushing their own goods, while knocking the competition. I have also heard Well....i can get a much better sound from a smaller powered sealed box. I do find alot of the negativity base on the lower priced Klipsch, found in the megga stores, and bought by some folks who could not begging to tell you what a Klipschorn is. There is a certain snobery in high end speakers. Some consider heritage....outdated 40yrs past the mark....in comparison to the "new "high end models The best way i can conclude is by saying that ,especially the heritage line is not worse, better or outdated. IT just sounds different. to some ears its Count Bassie in the front row To others its like a P.A speaker. Raw agressive harsh. look at it this way Klipsch heritage is like a Harley Davidson. it stands out on its own. because...it is different from the pack. Some people luv em..some hate em ITs that simple *p.s The MCM pro speaker, incidentally is the most awesome Pro speaker ive heard or used.!

Last night some friends of mine and I watched the Bourne Identity(good movie btw). After the movie about 1 in the morning we sat out on the porch and finished off some pizza and beer. It was nice and peaceful and cool outside. The problem when it does get cold down here is some of the apartments are really poorly insulated. My buddies apt cools off really fast when it gets chilly outside, I've seen cardboard boxes with a better insulation factor. My apartment however seems to be just fine as the walls are rather thick which makes them practically soundproofed as well. I can blast my stereo at over 100dB and my neighbors can't hear it. Say,..his 2003 CD were just released, how would it sound,.. what kinda stuff would he be writing now? Maybe a departure from the "rig smashing" stuff that he was known for... 10. ---------------- On 1/19/2003 8:07:45 AM HDBRbuilder wrote: My having had personal experience with PWK...I am quite sure HIS intention in development of the Jubilee was NOT to deprive the general public from being able to afford its purchase...by pricing it so high that only the rich could afford it! But, rather, his intention was to design a speaker that was a two-way, fully horn-loaded design that was easier to manufacture and that would do a bit more in accurate sound reproduction than his venerable Klipschorn would do, while being of smaller size and not requiring an existing or false corner-fit in order to perform properly. The fact that it will be priced higher than the Klipschorn...at DOUBLE the cost of a Klipschorn...was, I am quite sure, NOT PWK's intent! I would venture to say that his intent was to use his engineering experience, combined with advancements in technology over the years, to come up with a two-way speaker design that simply was NOT POSSIBLE at the time he designed the Klipschorn....and that also was not possible for many years FOLLOWING his design of the Klipschorn. Knowing PWK, he thought long and hard over the years about this project before he ever began any research and development on it! And he was very well aided in its development by TWO prime helpers...one of whom was Roy DelGado, who was co-developer of the project, and without whose efforts, while working hand-in-hand with PWK on this project, the Jubilee would never have seen the light of day in ANY form or fashion! The pricing of the speaker was, alas, not the work of the engineering department! One thing many may NOT realize is that...over the years...a very large number of folded and other type horn designs were either copied or purchased by the company for testing purposes. There is probably not a single horn design from all this time (OR, for that matter, from the BEGINNING of horn designs!) that was NOT tested in one fashion or another by the engineering staff. Often a design would be used as a platform to test modifications, however slight or radical, to see just what the capabilities of these designs were...and to keep in mind certain aspects of these designs when the engineers developed new speakers for testing over the years. An additional bonus was that so very many companies throughout the world offered-up, on a regular basis, their drivers for testing at the lab...often with very interesting results! So the Jubilee development was a culmination of "lessons-learned" by PWK and the engineering staff over almost a half-century of testing and design...BEFORE the project was even embarked upon! I am quite sure that PWK had the "idea in his head" for many years before he decided to start the project...and actual start OF the project was brought on by developmental successes in other areas besides the basic bass-bin design of the Jubilee. Nevertheless, even when the project was initialized, there were many changes made to the original bass-bin design in order to get it to the point where it met the design parameters sought by PWK and Delgado! The fact that this project finally came to fruition was the work of many...but there are three individuals who devoted MANY hours to this project-in-development alongside PWK(one of them was Mrs. Valerie, of course)...and a good part of the reason so very many hours were devoted to this project is due in no small part to the realization of all concerned that PWK would NOT be in this plane of existence for very much longer! It was PWK's "baby", but it was the LOVE of certain others FOR PWK that kept this project rolling at so feverish a pace until its finish! Trust me on this!! ---------------- I wanted to add something to this link,..but after reading HDBRbuilders post,..he pretty well explain's the product in relation to the "mans wishes" As someone said earlier here,. this will put the klipsch nameplate on esoterica...now For good people who do have the spare $$$$ to buy in this price range, the quality will be unbeatable,...like other things available at this pricepoint.. Like cars, rare far east furniture, etc etc I know someone that has a $14,000.00 cherry grandfather clock in their foyer. BUT ...its the only one ive seen....like that. The numbers get so much smaller as you go up. It would be a very select market. ITs a tricky business decision to "go there" How may would you sell or build in a yr? How many tannoy Drednaughts or westminsters did they move . OR how many people do you know....have em? I hate it when marketing gets in the way of art,..but hey thats business nowaday's HDBRbuilder was right But im not sure thats the Paul would have wanted it. p.s has anyone heard the Jubillee commercial cabinet..??????? 23. Hi BOB I know you guys must break out into a cold sweat, whenever heritage questions come up. Are they still running the custom finishes, eg:rosewood, zebrawood, cherry, oak, walnut ,etc?? Someone mentioned(and it might have been you) that after a certain timepoint they will only be the natural,..or lacquer finish.. also in the corner horns,.. do they still build the 3 cabinet styles,..like they used to or just one "classic" version i think one was a raw version and the other were to furniture versions.. with the top version having the rise at the bottom of the bass cabinet and the split between the HF/LF cabinets.. just curious why? Our house plans are set back till the end of next summer,..and would REALLY like to get a furniture finished set of horns after all,.besides being the musical instrument that they are... they are awesome piece of funiture in the deluxe finishes..
