  1. I've read quite a few great things about this player, however I have read about some mechanical ticking on sacd playback. Does anyone have this player and just how loud is this ticking? The people at Philips says it's normal and is not audible during playback. I guess lots of sacd players have this noise. Any information would be appreciated.
  2. Chris, the DSOTM and Wizard of Oz together is absolutely eerie. I get goose bumps every time I play it. Do a google search for DSOTM-Wizard of OZ and you'll find tons of Information on all the references etc. Some cd players track faster after pushing play so you might have to experiment a little. If you push play and then immediately hit pause it's best to start right after the third mgm's lions roar. Or you can just hit play immediately before the third lions roar if you don't pause it first. When you get it right you'll definitely know it....GOOD LUCK
  3. With some good weed and a dvd of the Wizard of Oz you can expect some tingling excitement, mind blowing/altering effects, and some serious musical enjoyment. The SACD stereo version is much better in my opinion than the original cd. You won't be disappointed even under sober conditions.
  4. Sounds like you already made up your mind...buy the Yamaha's.
  5. Strabo....What problems are you talking about?
  6. Griffinator...I'd like to know how you came to the conclusion that any cheap DVD player will better any garden variety CD player, this certainly isn't what I've found. My 1988 Delco am-fm car stereo sounds better than my Toshiba DVD player playing CD's. O.K. maybe it's not that bad but close.
  7. Wireless...Don't put to much into the 24 bit lingo on cheaper DVD players. My toshiba which I like for movies, is a 24 bit/192khz DAC audio, sounds absolutely horrible compared to my 1995 20 bit ADCOM cd player. It's night and day. If your looking for good quality and playback for audio you would probably do better with a decent CD player. Some of these machines today play every dang format but reel to reel and only cost two hundred dollars, which would scare the heck out of me.
  8. Moon, I seen 311 back in 91 or 92 right before or during there first release, Unity I think was the name of it, it was before they released 311 Music, which In my opinion is the best of all of them. There from Omaha which is 25 minutes from where I grew up, so obviously they were very popular around here. Grassroots is also a great album, especially if your under the influence of grassroots....
  9. It's called falling in Line, right Maron. I'm just glad I could furnish the means for some humor. I feel like Kelly, only with limited Knowledge! For all of you that genuinely answered my question, a big thanks. To all you overly passionate, skeptical, audio intellectual smart asses, screw you. Just Joking.......As most of you know, companies sell these things for big bucks, just simply wanted to know if anyone had attempted a cheaper alternative and with what results. I do feel privileged with all the responses though.........thanks
  10. Deang, I knew I could count on YOU!
  11. Deang.....What's one of those go for? Geez, I thought I made myself clear in my initial post, guess not. Please now, I'm not saying these things will work, far from it, I have no idea, but it never hurts to try something and was simply asking if anyone had used any of these ideas. I know there are some closet elevators out there so speak up don't be embarrassed or apprehensive to respond. Show no trepidation toward the old fangled, castoff past responses. And Deang, my goodness, one would think you would try anything!
  12. Just wondering who, IF ANYBODY, use any type of elevators under there speaker wire? Terra Cotta, cedar chips, brick, ceramic, anything? Please no comments if you think this is all B.S.
  13. If I knew for a fact a new SACD player wouldn't be sitting, collecting dust on top of my 1992 laser disc player, I might give it a shot. Kidding aside, I'll stick to a good C.D. player and vinyl.
  14. It's called Advertising! If Klipsch wanted to get some products reviewed they would have to start spending some money on ads for the magazine. Since Klipsch makes most of there money on cheaper PC systems and there lower end speakers it would make no since to advertise in a magazine like Stereophile. Look at how many reviews Musical Fidelity receives, and you can correlate that to how many ads are in the magazine. It's all about MONEY.
  15. No offense...........but who cares about the speakers when you Have Laurie Dhue on the television. Hot,Hot,Hot, O.K. the speakers are nice too.
  16. "If we go to war in Iraq in a way that divides us from our allies, we could harm our security more that help it. If that is the price of waging war in Iraq, then victory in the war on terrorism, in the Middle East, on the Korean peninsula and against weapons of mass destruction will not be ours. In the broad sense, that means we must be humble in our approach to foreign policy, respectful of others views, aware of anxieties about our motivations and power and committed to solving problems multilaterlly whenever possible. We must avoid the traps and hubris and imperial temptation that come with GREAT power." Sen. Chuck Hagel..R-NE, my Senator. Believe me folks when I say he represents a vastly conservative state, the state where MY right wing, compassionate, progressive conservative butt lives in. Mdeneen, I included that progressive just for you. I think Sen. Hagel makes a strong, meritorious statement here, especially considering he's somewhat breaking the ranks.
  17. Paulparrot....Where in my last post did I mention that any view expressed by anyone is held by every American. Take your time and carefully read the posts before commenting. By the way, which part of "The REST will be written by US" don't you understand?
  18. Paulparrot, If YOU don't see anything slightly wrong with that statement, and your view is universal throughout our country, than Lord have mercy on all of us.
  19. hwatkins..."I think you should have to pass an IQ test before getting a drivers license and a drivers license should be required to vote". Being the Liberal that you admitted you are, you should realize the LAST thing the Democratic party would want to do is require individuals to partake in an IQ test before allowing them the priviledge to vote. You thought last years election results were ugly............
  20. Deang.......I can always pretend
  21. "I'd be willing to give him a bloodless victory as his own, and if he takes it, I would have NEW respect for him". To have a NEW respect, one would first have to have respect. Mdeneen are you telling us there's just a sliver of respect for Bush in that liberal heart of yours.
  22. Deang....yea, I hear ya. If I went the Jupiter route I would buy used, so then you looking at around 1,200.00, thats the reason I'd like to find out just how much difference there is between the two models. I really don't like buying used digital equipment but some of the used prices as YOU surely know are hard to pass up.
  23. Mobile....Awhile back you mentioned one of your buddies I think compared the new planet to the original and eventually found the original more to his liking. Is that right or do I have that all turned around? Also, have you had the opportunity to listen to the Jupiter? It's quite a jump up in price from the new planet. Don't take this the wrong way but I just don't think I could do the original planet as it's cosmetics leave much to be desired. I do however like the looks of the new silver Planet and Jupiter. Thanks..............
  24. Mdeneen.....Great Economic NEWS.....The United States Government will hire and train 10,000 individuals to become port inspectors to enforce and provide security measures. The money to pay for this bold economic endeavor by President Bush will come from the vastly inflated, grossly estimated 40 billion dollars that YOU mentioned in a previous post. This money was specifically allocated in what the administration labeled the OH **** PLAN. This plan was to proceed only if the Turkish Parliament rejected the U.S. deployment plan. When asked what kind of benefit this measure would have on our nations security, Sen. Tom Daschle said, "10,000 new jobs is a start".
