I’ve had 420, 780, 1090, 1530. The 1530 were in really bad shape so I didn’t get to really enjoy them. Liked the 780 for size and the 1090 for sound.  All of them now in other homes since I got in to Klipsch.

There are some things I like better about the ads speakers than Klipsch; amongst other brands.  I think I missed out on the L1530's but definitely rare to find them in Arkansas.  Kind of lucked out on the 1230's as they were in Fayetteville and my daughter was going to the U of A at the time, a couple years back I think.

The ADS for the win! Nothing against the JBLs. Never heard them, but owned many ADS.

I have L1230's currently and a pair of CF-3's but have always wanted a set of 1530's...even if they are 40+ years old. Lol.  At least the drivers can still be serviced.

I have the RFlll, and I have found a great way to fix them is set a pair of JBL 590 beside them. That worked great for me, 590 for music and 7lll for movies and concerts. Just one owners opinion that has tried many dozens of pre's/amp's, modern and classic gear.

I've been debating on a pair of those Studio 590's for years now...way back when they started discounting. When they hit that sub $900 price, I really debate.  It's either those or a pair of ads L1530's.

So far it’s enjoyable. I’ve connected it to my LSI splits and it’s plenty. Despite low power seems to still have headroom. I’m listening to songs I listened to days ago running a big Carver and the biggest difference is it’s only 5 watts.

Anyone know about making adjustments? The bias current value need to be hot or cold. At start up I was at .21 once hot .39.

Which big Carver do you have and what speakers do you use typically?  What type of case are you going to put it into, if any?

In case it wasn't abundantly clear, this would be a perfect little device for storing a music library.

For those of us who have network racks in our house, for sure.  ;)  (which I do)   Great units.  We use eight of the 12 bay RS2418+ for city storage; they are very solid units.  We had 3 big Seagate units and they all ultimately failed in a short time.  We darn near have a petabyte of total storage and backup at this point.

  6. So by the time you buy all the parts, chassis, etc., how much is a person into for one of these?  What kind of power does this one put out?  I'm sure Amir dislikes these, too?

  7. I use a highly updated & upgraded Carver M-1.0t MkII Opt 002 (long name, I know) which I've owned for 15 years now and has been upgraded for 10.  It has stayed where others including a $2,500 Onkyo reference amp, rebuilt Mcintosh MC250, MA230,  & MC5100 amps, and others, have not stayed.  I have never thought the Carver was missing "detail" nor has anyone else that's heard it.  It's been ran on many, many speakers, too.

It is tempting but I'm really looking at preamps right now and the P6 is on my radar thanks.

I've been pondering a P6 myself to replace, or use in place of, my Carver C-1 with all the BillD mods.  Parasound is out of them and I am still waiting on the Manufacturers rep for my area to call back about the search for one as I could probably get one at rep sample price IF they were available.  (was in that industry for 25 years)  Kind of slim pickin's right now, unfortunately.

  9. @Bubba_Buoy And it could just be that a) they don't work in your room(s) like the other person had trouble with, or, b) they just aren't the speakers for you.  Room acoustics can be a killer even with speakers that may be "known" to have good/decent bass.  Sometimes it takes a sub, or subs, to get to that point.  My upstairs room acoustics do that to me when I compare the bass of any speakers being on the long wall versus the short wall in a 15 x 28 room.  Being on the long wall always gives me better bass but the layout is a little rougher.  When on the short wall, there's more room nodes where I lose bass in my listening spot.  I'm currently torn on wanting to put it back the way it was where I was sitting on the long wall and I was about 10 feet back so I'm less dependent on a sub (Sunfire HRS-12).

What's the room dimensions?  Is it carpet, wood, tile, etc?  Are there rugs?  Does the space behind you open up into another room as in open floor plan?  Got pictures of the room?  I doubt you have speaker or crossover problems but there's always a slim chance.  What speakers did you have in the room before?  How did they sound?

  10. Wow...  I remember when I snagged a set of original owner '78 KWO's back in June 2008 for $500 which included his original gallon of Watco Walnut Danish Oil that was tagged at under a dollar.  ha  Was my first post on the forum, actually.  I hated having to sell those when the economy tanked and I lost my job manufacturers rep job summer 2009, then sold my house, sold lots of stuff, paid everything off, went back to college at 43, and started over.

  11. Did you not catch the sarcasm in our replies about the pricing?  Not to mention, not everyone wants a pair of LS's or Khorns, of which I've owned both, along with Belle clones that I built.  I agree in that $2800 is way too much but so is tons of other stuff right now.
