  1. I like the Schiit Modi, but any DAC with the AK__ chip would be my preference. I have a headphone amp with one in it, and it is light years better than my computer sound card, and I liked it better than Modi too, though the gap was narrower. The AK is awesome.
  2. I use Tidal, for about 3-4 years now. I love the app interface, the sound quality is always good (&sometimes great), and Tidal Connect, which I use with my streamer and an outboard DAC, is a super convenient way to get good, (sometimes amazing) sound, full-res, thru my good stereo. I pay for the "Max" tier. It is my only paid music service.
  3. WOW!! GREAT price! Someone in FL is gonna get a steal.
  4. DAC - Denafrips Ares 2 Preamp - Emotiva XSP-1 Amp - Rogue Audio Medusa w/ NOS (1963) Mullards Speakers - Chorus 2 w/ titanium tweeters and re-capped.
  5. Tons of good suggestions here! My 2-pennies-worth, is just to agree with, and cherry-pick existing posts. Soundgarden "Superunkown" is an audiophile-level production. Hard rock w/Klipsch is some kind of perfect alchemy. W/ Jazz, just be sure it's a great recording and fits your taste... you'll hear textures and dynamics in new ways. I love early Herbie Hancock, along with Paul Chambers, Kenny Burrell and Jimmy Smith. For popular music, Peter Gabriel "So" and Tom Petty "Wildflowers" are inspired, and near-perfect productions. Alice In Chains "Unplugged" too. Amazing recording.
  6. Chorus 2 with Titanium tweeter and re-done crossover. Denafrips Ares 2 DAC Rogue Audio "Medusa" Amp w/vintage Mullards
  7. Why more power? The experts here could chime in with way more experience than I have. But, I find the sensitivity/efficiency estimates of the Chorus 2 to be higher than real world behavior. If I had to guess, I'd say it's something to do with the woofer in them. While researching them, I found quite a few posts about how the woofer comes from the pro/PA side of the Klipsch business as opposed to the home audio side. (I realize there isn't much difference, just saying...) They seem to prefer more wattage to really "motivate" or energize them. I think the damping factor of SS amps, combined with the RELATIVELY less efficient woofer, makes a high powered amp more advantageous in the Chorus 2 than the woofer(s) in the Forte and/or Cornwalls would seem to require. Again, please take this from a newbie, with the appropriate grain of salt.
  8. To quote an ancient TV show....MORE POWER! I don't care what brand of amp it is. Until I heard my Chorus 2's with well over 100 watts/channel, I thought they were deficient. My only other post on here was seeking help for a lack of bass. My mea culpa post should be forthcoming but I can tell you, a vintage Adcom 355 (with 200+ watts into 8 ohms) opened my eyes and ears. It was the remedy to all the sonic issues I thought they had. Now I have an even better sounding, but no less powerful amp (200+ watts/ch.) will drive them blissfully. The previous owner of my Chorus 2's had an 8 watt triode amp and couldn't get the bass he wanted out of them, and with 100 watts into 8 ohms, neither could I...especially in my big listening room...even if I put them super-close to the wall behind. Now with plenty of power, (Rogue Audio Medusa w/ vintage 1963 Mullards), and placed about 1 foot from the back (front?) wall, they are GLORIOUS. I'm a total evangelist for Klipsch, and Chorus 2's in particular. Good luck!
  9. Thanks very much for the replies. I'll do some looking around.
  10. I'm relatively new to Klipsch Heritage (though not to HiFi) I bought my Chorus 2s around 6-7 months ago. I've searched these forums as a guest, and joined to ask this question of the awesome and generous folks found here... My Chorus 2's either lack bass, or have too much of the rest. It's not zero bass, it's just the ratio doesn't seem quite right. It seems to me that the woofer is less efficient than the other 2 speakers in the box. If I was to guess, I'd say 4-5 db "quieter". And, not just in the "subwoofer realm" but well above that too. Could the 15-in. woofers be replaced by a slightly more efficient one? If so, would that be basically the woofer in the Cornwall's? (I don't know part numbers, forgive me) I bought them from a Klipsch lover with an 8 watt tube amp, who sold them to me because he couldn't get bass he liked out of them, which we assumed was due to the amp he was using, and he now has Cornwalls (3 or 4s) which he raves about. I power them w/ a Rogue Sphinx V3 integrated amp, (100w @ 8 ohms)...so I figured I'd be good to go. They have titanium tweeters, and were re-capped (per Crites) by previous owner. I've positioned them everywhere from 6 inches to 20 inches from the "back wall" and they are in the closed end of a good sounding room. Tweeters are 9 feet apart and speakers are 10-11 feet from listening position. Thanks in advance!
