I do big projects when the wife is gone. That way she never sees the mess.

I have found that this is the approach I need to take, going as far as not even informing her of my ideas.

They had all of those at the store too, also they have one exclusively to paint furniture. I think I should be good with a quart of paint instead of buying a whole gallon.

I just that in triton black for these cabinets.

I had the paint supply on my gun backed all the way out and added 2 ounces of water to 20 ounces of paint, YMMV.  The taller cabinet was tiger wood and you can see some grain through the paint, the 2 shorter cabinets are birch more solid. I applied 2 coats of primer, could have gotten by with one coat of black, but missed some areas on the first go around, so ended with 2 coats of top coat. Not sure what it takes to get the wood grain to show, maybe less primer?

I used about a 1/3 of a gallon for those three cabinets.  I would think 1 coat would only require 1 quart. I always like to have more than enough, so I opt for a whole gallon,  plus I have trim to paint as well.

I think he also said he had and sold another pair of jubilee bass bins that were unfinished (as far as finish). Maybe clones or earlier UJ’s.

If unfinished you mean raw wood, my guess is one of W.C.'s experimental UG bass bins.

    less chance of failure

I must note, that even though older, if serviced correctly, the older Scott units can be very reliable.  I just didn't care for the volume and power switch combined into one.  I had issues with mine as it appeared that the wafer on the volume control had some wear right at my main spl listening preference, therefor it was louder than I wanted to quitter than I wanted.  There may have been work arounds, but not something I was willing to do.

  5. I love Scott products on Heritage line.  But even that being said, since you are new to tubes, I would look for something newer that may not need as much servicing anytime soon.  Not sure what your budget is or if your hung up on EL84/6BQ5 tubes, but a lot of users like the Primaluna line of tube integrated amps.  If I had the funds, I would look at the EVO 200 as it allows home theater bypass.

If your budget doesn't allow for from something like the Primaluna, I would reach out to Craig at NOSValves @NOS Valves or @John Warren at Northreadingengineering.com for insight on what to look at as far as possible issues that need to be addressed.

I think getting out of buying it was the right move. Seems like it would be almost impossible to find another one.

Why did he have only one?

I believe he picked it and the golden Jubilees up in a local auction from someone who was once a forum member and a former Klipsch dealer.   My guess is that the original owner ordered it for experimental purposes.

  7. Since you've already decided to get rid of the pool table, then have nothing to lose except time to experiment.

Get rid of pool table, clear out room, experiment with placement.   If the Khorns sounded better in their original location in the house, convince the wife to have a second systems and get Lascalas or Cornwalls.  I just realized you were in the process of possibly purchasing these.  Even that being said, I'd still go for it.

I think you have a great opportunity to try something most don't get the opportunity to.  I'd give it a good college try.

to avoid orange peel  , you will have to work at a distance , start with  the bottom panel of the speaker  for the desired texture , and work up the cabinet  with  a consistent spray pattern

He may be talking more of excessive paint around the work area. If so, there are ways to minimize this, check out you tube as I have seen it mentioned before, just don't recall how.

  10. I'm not a painter, but can give input from my experience.  I haven't found a roller I like for cabinets. I like airless painters, but for smaller projects the clean up isn't worth it (I've got the Graco project plus that requires more clean up).  I had a harbor freight purple gravity feed HVLP sitting around, so I decided to use it on this current project. Much easier to clean, but if you to get inside of a cabinet (I don't believe you will) its cumbersome to get the gun in there and spray evenly (this is where the Graco comes in handy as I can put extensions on it to get inside a cabinet easier).

I too have multiple systems. My primary and secondary both La Scala. The CW that we’re my primary have hardly been used since the LS moved in. Gotta be the big *** midhorn.

I could see where I'd be satisfied with new Lascalas down there, it may need to be a goal.  I would have to change my subs, which may not be a bad thing.  Good news is I already have a Jubscala for a center channel.

  12. First, awesome Down poster, huge fan here, seen them a few times with one meet and greet.   10 years after the meet and great met Pepper after a COC show at the same venue and he had no recollection of playing with Down there. I guess that's a give when playing 1000s of shows, drugs, and alcohol (he was pretty hammered at the moment as well).

Now back to the original program.   I'd give it a solid college try, yeah moving the pool table will be a huge pain in the @$$, so you need to decide what's more important, playing pool or the best sound system you can potentially have.

If the sound system is it, then I guarantee it will be worth it.  If you use the short wall, I'd opt to either build a false wall for the short wall or extend it.  The false wall allows experimenting without permanent changes.  Then onto the long wall, I thought somewhere it was noted that the long wall is preferred for imagining and can be planked by a center channel such as a Belle, Lascala, Cornwall,  or even Heresy.

If the long wall still allows the pool table, then you could have both, guaranteed.

    Just my 2 cents.

  13. Mods, if this isn't the correct location and this belongs more in the lounge, feel free to move.

So recently my wife has been big into interior design which has lead her to what one may say, the art of Feng Shui.

Has anyone taken Feng Shui into consideration whit their sound system?

I know most probably pay more attention basic room acoustics and speaker placement, so this more of a compromise with the wife for WAF and being able to have an audio systems in certain rooms.  I guess the one thing that caught my interest was the mention of missing corners and how it could affect sound.

  14. I have the honor of owning different speakers. I've owned some version of Cornwalls for some time, went from Cornwall 1s to Cornwall IVs. Regardless, I love the sound from both. One would think that the different mid horns and networks would make me love one more over the other, but it doesn't. The way my IVs are positioned I would say that the stereo image is best between the two, but wasn't something that bothered me with the Is.

In the basement which is more theater based is where I have my diy folded horn bass bins that I ripped off from the Klipsch Belle and added the k402.  Now don't get me wrong, that system sounds great, but I tend to catch myself listening to my Cornwalls more.  My goal with the basement system was to have  more of a HI end sound system, but I must say, I'm not as impressed as I thought I would.  This could be to room acoustics, improper implementation of the active network or maybe the lack of the Klipsch sound that I enjoy from the Cornwalls.

I would like to try a set of actual Belles or the new Lascalas, but financially it's not feasible.   I'm almost leaning towards a trio of Cornwalls up front.

    Curious to everyone else's thoughts.
