  4. So she was pregnant and completely shaved... In a weird sorta way that's even hotter!!! Lol
  5. To the OP.... The MMF5 is an excellent table.... I've heard several and they really sing!
  6. In my experiments.... Groomlake is the guru.... You really need to run separate but identical amps, to power your "array" even though they are in same plane on the y axis.... you will most probably run into comb filtering...especially if the speaker, model/ type are not identical.... the separate amps will allow you to adjust volume to overcome the comb filtering. I've been at the wall of voodoo to many times to count and can attest that just a little tweek in relative volume goes from sounding like ehhhh to nirvana!!!!
  7. I just sold a VPI scout with really nice dynavector 5x cart for $1100... a bit above your budget, but that seems to be the going rate for a 9-10 condition.... Highly regarded and very well reviewed..... keep an eye open for one, got to go to about 3k to best it..... I really liked that table and only sold it to feed my obsession with upgrades LOL new a Rega plannar 3 is also awesome! and well within your budget.... I'm of the opinion of "garbage in garbage out" and it doesn't really matter how great your amps/pre/ speakers are if the front end doesn't supply them with good info..... $500 will get you a nice technics mk1200 add $200 for a nice MM cart and you have a nice tough as nails work horse that will go forever..... Make sure your Preamp/receiver has Phono in or you will need to budget for a phono preamp.... Rega has a nice "fono" unit for about $200 that will do just fine for now....
  8. Ok Ok .... Who here admits to trying to lick off some of the whip cream??? [] As far as High school girlfriends.....uhhhhhh.... facebook really has a way of slapping me upside the head with a good dose of in the present reality..... Thank heavens I didn't marry any of them..... I sure though they were hot back then!!!!! Hind sight isn't 20/20... Its darn right myopic! LOL
  9. well in I most defiantly lusted over herb albert and the Tijuana brass' "whip cream and other delights" hey that would make a great OT post. " album covers you lusted over "
  10. Freudian slip? Darn Corrective text on my Iphone...... I think that phone knows What i really mean to say!!!! Scary!!!! Too funny
  11. Hey Michael...... You know your not going to like vinyl, so here's what I'll do.... Pack it all up and ship it to me and I'll spend countless hours, toiling away, lusting to that vinyl, and I'll let you know If is any good and weather or not you would have enjoyed it. Win - win...... Lol glad everything worked out!!!
  12. Ray Lamontagne solo or with the pariah dogs: folk/rock great voice plays multiple instruments Writes his own material for the most part Soulful, meaningful, emotional, music and lyrics, reminiscent of the late 60's early seventies I just plain like real music
  13. Cleaver? I don't need no stinkin cleaver! kimber 1911..... That'll do the trick. Lol
  14. You don't want me there.... We both end up in jail!
  15. Fender, That's exactly what I have in mine, and it is definitely the cat's meow! Mine was restored by Jean Nantais, who is famous for the Lenco thread on Audiogon. The plinth is a work of art. I am looking at the Lyra Helicon as we speak, and wondering if it would sound better than my Zu modified DL-103R.They are both very good matches for the SME IV tonarm. I know you had this cart on your Scout previously. Mike hey Mike. Stop making me droollllllll!!!!!! I love your table and have never heard it!! That is exactly what I want to do finances permitting. the newer helicon is a dream!!!! The older one is a bit thin and the have really improved it.... Probably a great match
  16. If the output is that weak then something is wrong either with the cart/wiring or your phono board. (doubtful)... I've run my MC Lyra helicon 0.4 mv ( requires at least 55-60db of gain through the standard MM input for giggles and while not great, still had volume...... and your hum, is that 60 hz ground loop hum? If so try running the grounding wire directly to the center screw of your outlet.... Sounds like you are compleating a grounding loop when you touch the head shell ( in that case you have an exposed wire touching somewhere it shouldn't be ( try a new set of wires to your cart... real fragile and fray easily).... Let this guy get the techniques fixed before tackling a harder job of the Thorens...... May I suggest a used VPI scout..... I recently sold one ( to take a major step up) for $1100 including a Dynavector 5x and cover, seems to be the going rate for mint..... really really great table, I had to spend 5k to get a significant increase
  17. Quite honestly ..... I have $3500 budget for when I restore a thorens TD 124. Now that's for a really good arm and custom plinth but I doubt you can get into a good working 124 for under 2k. There are other thorens models from the 70s that you could look at that would do an excellent job such as the td160 if modded. Should be 1k. AR-es1 the turntable and a Linn LP-12 are excellent vintage tables as long as the sub chassis, moters, springs, subplaters, are modded and modernized. Vinylnirvana.com. Does an excellent job anday have several modded vintage tables in your price range. a Dual 1019 was their top of the line 70's era TUrntable and has a nice following and would be more of a starter table to get you feet wet. but as others and myself have pointed out a Rega planner 3 with RB- 250 arm is under your budget and will far outperform these vintage jobs at the same price point.
  18. I second oldtimer..... Get yourself a nice modern used table ..... Not sure what your budget is, but remember ESPECIALLY with khorns, that the front of the chain is where you get the most out of your system. K horns as you know are super reveling and you want a quite quite, stable, table that can dig out all the info on your vinyl. true a thornes TD 124 is an awesome table, but you will spend a lot of money restoring and tweaking it... then there is the arm, cart..... $$$$$$ My next project will likely be one but I know it will cost me a ton to bring it up to a great level as far as arms go the Rega 250 is an amazing entry level arm... as is a nice rega 3 table combo.... The VPI scout ( about $1100 used) can stand toe to toe with tables 2 to 3 times the price.... Again I have know idea what your budget is, but you have a really nice system, so if you don't want to be disappointed by vinyl get something inline with the rest of your system...... Ive heard great TT/arm/cart.... powered by a cheep reciever, sound ten times better than a crappy TT through a amazing all tube high end system.... Especially with khorns.... I know I have tried many combos...
  19. Then happiness for me, was at the bottom left drawer of my dads dresser when I was 12!!!!!!!
  20. Fillet glove too confining for you? At least for us amateurs, I consider it a kitchen essential. Dave No time for fillet gloves!!! It's a total flustercluck 14-16 hr marathon on event days.....we barely have time to pee...... usually have 10 things going at once, still have all my digits We are very careful on the more dangerous items...... worst cuts I've seen are on stupid stuff like the 18 roll of plastic wrap cutters, bushel crate staples, or my worst cut...(12 stitches) the side of a number 10 can, those puppies can be razor sharp . I almost never get cut with a knife. "knock on wood"
  21. Fillet glove, my friend. Seriously. These things are inherently unsafe and regardless of your attention you are likely to slip at some point. Dave You should see me after slicing radishes for 300 ...... forget bandaids..... just cauterize your bloody stumps on the hot grill and wrap in duct tape! Lots of duct tape is any chefs secret ingredient!!!! LOL I'm kidding...... I'm NOT kidding!!!
  22. IMO. The middle of the chain is a moot point as long as it cleanly, colorlessly, "amplifies" money and great pains should be spent on the front end and source material.... Because that's where you can get the most benefit. I will agree that three way big box speakers such as the khorn ( which I had for three years) are a fussy beast and more sensitive to the flavor of amp.... I went through a few amps before settling. I actually have Sonics Animas in my main rig fronted by Townshend rock seven/rega/ Lyra TT. With good recordings I can use a $500 int and it sounds amazing. ( granted using a Cayin one phono pre). When I use my all tube system there is a difference but not that much..... I'm getting the most bang out if the front end. just a thought. BTW. If you have never heard sonics animas get over to my house...,, the will knock your socks off!!!!
