  1. I've decided to part with a pair of LaScalas. I have another pair of LaScala's in my living room and I've been thinking long and hard about buying a new pair of LaScala II's or "possibly" K-horns. But, before buying, I have to sell at least one pair of speakers (maybe both) to justify the purchase. As discussed in another thread I started earlier today, prices seem to be back on the seller's side a bit, but I figured I'd still offer them here before going to eBay. These are 1984's. . .8451425 and 8451426 are the numbers. I've owned them for about 9 years and I'm the second owner. They're a fairly light birch with a laquer or poly clear on them. They've been in two smoke free environments since new. The original owner added veneer along the front end grain of the plywood. It looks very sharp, but is chipping slightly at the bottom edge of the cabinet. The plywood itself is not chipping anywhere on these beauties. There is one 3" scratch on the top of one speaker, but the tops are otherwise dead mint. I''ve had the cane grilles off since I've owned them, but put them on for the pics. Note that one of the grilles is discolored from something spilling in a closet where I stored the grilles back when I first got the speakers. No plants, no other nicks. The rest of the cabinets are very clean, with just a few minor scuff type scratches that are difficult to photograph. Although I wouldn't call them mint, these speakers have been WELL cared for since new and look incredible for their age. All drivers work flawlessly and everything is all Klipsch. I did swap the AL networks for a set of AA's maybe 6-7 years ago. The AL's have long been sold. I'm in Oak Creek, WI. . .about 15 minutes south of downtown Milwaukee. I'm an hour north of Chicago, about 5 minutes off I94. I'd like to get $1,400 for them. Please email at tidmack@yahoo.com if you're interested. Otherwise, check them out on eBay this weekend. Thanks. Jeff
  2. Thanks for verifying guys. I always sell in spring, but late January seemed a little earlier than normal to see the higher prices. Usually, I didn't remember seeing good selling prices until mid February or so. With that said, it looks like a pair of LaScalas will be on the block soon. They've sat covered in a bedroom for over a year and I'm sure someone could be using them right now. Thanks again for the quick responses. Jeff
  3. Hi Everyone, A fellow forum member keeps a pretty good eye on eBay prices. . .but I can't think of who it is. I'm wondering if Heritage prices have been on the upswing lately. From what I've observed, prices in the last month seem higher than normal. The price increase doesn't seem to normally occur until early spring though, not in the dead of winter. Have other members noticed higher prices of late too, or is it just me? Jeff
  4. Good read, fellas. Do the newest crossovers in the heritage lineup more closely resemble the more simple A or AA networks or the higher order networks provided by forum members? Or are they completely different? Jeff
  5. Fellas, Came across some Cornwalls on Craigslist last night up in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, I can't access Craigslist here at work, so I can't provide a link. I think the seller was asking $500. Good luck- Jeff
  6. Damon, You have a PM. Jeff in Oak Creek
  7. I've used DynaMat in the past with good results. . .at least to me. But it sounds like from what I'm reading that the whole horn doesn't need to be wrapped to make the ringing stop. If I just wrap the horn a couple of times around, should that be enough? Thanks. Jeff
  8. Michael, I've been lucky enough to have owned CW 1's, 2's, and 3's. Because I already parted with my other pairs, I wasn't able to A/B the 3's versus the other two. But, to my unscientific ears, the 3's sounded the best of the three, with my ears enjoying my CW 1's (77 or 78's) over my CW 2's. I was able to A/B the 1's and 2's for a couple years and there was a smoothness about the 1's that I couldn't put my finger on. But, I think you'd be happy with any vintage. Cornwalls sound fantastic and are the best bang for the buck in the used dept, IMO. They pop up locally from time to time in the $600-$700 range and you'll never lose on them. In fact, check Craigslist. I can't get there here at work, but I want to say there's a pair in Minnapolis, Eau Claire, or LaCrosse listed. I might have my heritage line mixed up, but I thought they were Cornwalls. In the end though, I'm a LaScala guy I guess. My listening tastes vary quite a bit, anthing from Cash, Otis, Sam Cooke, The Byrds (have Sweetheart of the Rodeo on right now!), Zeppelin, Springsteen, Tupac, Outkast, Whiskeytown/Ryan Adams/Caitlin Cary, and the list goes on. Although the Cornwalls dig deeper in the bass dept, the enormous soundstage of the LaScala always won me over with 90% of what I listen to. And I settled the bass problem by picking up a pair of Klipsch Ultras, which provide a ridiculous amount of clean bass. There was a pair of Forte's for sale here in MKE last weekend. Boomac spoke of having some for sale and I wonder if he maybe scored the ones in New Berlin. The couple had a pair of Forte's, an Acadamy, and some surrounds for $850. I probably should've jumped on them because I could've sold everything other than the Forte's and had them for free. Ahh, there'll be more deals. Jeff
  9. Michael, Man, I just sold a pair of Cornwall 3's a few months back. . .you would have been able to compare them with a couple pairs of old LaScalas. If you're ever in the Milwaukee area, you're welcome to stop by for a listen. I'm running a pair of '78 LaScalas, a pair of Klipsch Ultra subs, and a Mac 2105 / MX 113 combo. I have a pair of near mint '84 LaScalas that I would part with if the price was right. . .right now they're just sitting in a spare bedroom. Jeff
  10. Thanks again everyone. . .I ended up buying Sound Forge. I appreciate the input. Have a good one- Jeff
  11. I've had this on the back burner the last month or so, but would like to buy something this week. I thought I'd bump this up one more time to see if anyone else has any software recommendations. Newegg has Sound Forge for $50 and I've read good reviews about it here and on other forums. But, I'm open to other suggestions if Sound Forge is missing anything crucial for transferring vinyl to CD. Thanks again for the input. Jeff
  12. BBBB- No, I sold it on eBay during the summer. It was a 3 year old frame off restro that I brought back up to snuff with a fresh undercarriage and engine detail. Shadow gray, black top, black interior. It was a numbers match driveline, but replaceable egnine parts weren't date correct. VERY nicely detailed car with all the SS stuff there. . .intact level ride, boxed control arms, shock protectors, etc. Luckily, I had a build sheet and ProtectOPlate to prove it was a real SS. Jeff
  13. Thanks for the advice Tiger, I will make sure I keep everything documented. I really appreciate the help, guys. I had a few parts from a '70 SS 454 Monte Carlo that I put on eBay. My uncle asked if I would put a couple of old Holley cores on there for him too. One was a 780 dual feed unit from the late '60s and the other was a 650 double pumper from a Camaro I believe. Both units needed rebuilds and he was really pleased to get $50 and $60 for the carbs. I just rambled. . .no I don't do any rebuilding. BUT, we have a phenomenal Technical college system here in WI. I always need classes to renew my teaching license and was thinking of taking a carburetor class sometime since I play with old muscle cars so often. Many times, I end up having the carbs rebuilt on those old cars and it would be cool to be able to do it myself. Take care, Jeff
  14. I contacted UPS last night. They seem helpful so far. I'll report back when things get straightened out. Thanks again- Jeff
  15. Excellent, thanks fellas. I'll give them a ring ASAP. Jeff
  16. Quick question: I sent a carburetor to a guy up in Canada on 11/6 via UPS. I've tracked the item and given him the tracking number that shows the item delivered on 11/9. He claims he hasn't received the carb. I'm not out cheat anyone on eBay and have even emailed him pics of my receipt from UPS. Can I stop worrying about this or am I obligated as the seller to try and help him track down his carburetor? Jeff
  17. Great to see a forum member take 'em! Enjoy! Gosh, even his shipping was reasonable. . .I even considered snaggin' them. Jeff
  18. Pics aren't too good, but the price certainly is. . . http://cgi.ebay.com/klipsch-heresy_W0QQitemZ230054738196QQihZ013QQcategoryZ14993QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  19. Sort of a general question since we're talking Macs. I run a 2105 and 113 preamp/tuner. They're my first pieces of McIntosh and I am completely satisified with their sound and build quality. But, one of the pieces is noisy and I'm not 100% sure which one it is. I keep my gains half way on the 2105. If I have the system on, but music off, I get a noticeable amount of hiss from my LaScalas when the volume on the 113 is from 10:00 on up. I've always written it off as normal because I read somewhere that the 113 is noisy, so I figured that the 113 was the noise/hiss maker. Can anyone else running these pieces confirm what I've experienced? Or do I possibly have a problem that should be fixed? Jeff
  20. Canyon, Gosh, I should've thought of that! Koss is 20 minutes from my house and their outlet usually has some nice deals. I'll give 'em a listen. If anyone else has suggestions, I'm open to other thoughts too. Jeff
  21. Ben, Yes! And and she's with The Sadies too. . .with Kelly Hogan. Kelly's solo stuff is quite good as well. . .I think most of her stuff is on Bloodshot out of Chicago. If you like "Hold on Hold on" and have the extra cash, I'd say pick up Fox Confessor too. I was with John on that one until I saw her on this tour. . .like so many artists, hearing the songs live gives them a whole new spin. Anyways, I like 6 of the 12 songs on Confessor. . . If you get a chance, Neko's Austin City Limits appearance was recently released on DVD. It is incredible! Those LaScalas and Ultra 2's really shine with that disc! Jeff
  22. Ben, I don't want to steal John's thunder, but I'm a big fan of Neko's too. For starters, I'd give "Furnace Room Lullaby" or "Blacklisted" a try. If you like those, then I'd say go for her newest disc "Fox Confessor". Neko's earlier material on the "Virginian" and "Canadian Amp" have some gems, but I wouldn't buy them first. Neko also has an excellent live disc called "The Tigers Have Spoken". Feel free to email me. Jeff
  23. This is probably most appropriate somewhere else, but I figured I'd get more responses here. I'm in dire need of new headphones for my portable MP3 player. The Sennheisers that it came with are just plain lousy. I'm looking for phones that are lightweight and small, as I use my player in the gym 90% of the time. I'd be willing to spend up to about $50. . .but could probably be talked into spending more if the sound was there. I started looking around this weekend and there are a zillion of them out there and I'd like to narrow down my search a bit. Thanks ahead of time. Jeff
  24. Who: Thanks! That's what I needed to know. Now let's see how tax returns go and how much I can save until spring. Jeff
  25. Kind of a general question. . .I too am thinking of going with knockdown in my rec-room. But do you think it will someday look dated or go out of style like the popular "popcorn" finish of the '80s? Regular ol sand walls never seem to look dated. . .does anyone with interior finishing experience have an opinion on this? Jeff
