  1. Gilbert, I'm interested. Please email me at j.tiedke@oakcreek.k12.wi.us Jeff
  2. Frzn- I'm getting mine through our local Klipsch outlet. They sell a TON of Klipsch here in the Milwaukee area. I'm really getting excited to hear them! Jeff
  3. It's not too often that I post for nearly no reason, but I have to say that I'm getting excited to hear Cornwalls again. Along with my Ultra subs order, I threw down on a pair of Walnut Cornwalls too. Anyone on the board get a pair yet? I'm curious how they compare to Cornwalls of old. I've owned late '70s Alnico magnet I's and mid '80s I's as well. At any rate, I'll be sure to chime in with my thoughts as soon as they arrive. Jeff
  4. Who & Paul, Thanks for the input. I put the order in earlier today on thinking that at the very least, I could split the mains like I've done when I've added another stereo amp into the mix (in a sense that's all I'm doing in this case too). I'm glad to hear that I'll be ok. I'll report back when I get everything set up. Although they're for another system, I'll chime in with my thoughts about the Cornwall III's with the subs too. Man, I sure hope these Ultras are what they're said to be. Jeff
  5. Fellas, I hate to have two similar topics going in two sections of the forum. But I kind of need a quick yes or no so I thought I'd post here too. I'm set to put in an order for a pair of Ultras and amp, but want to make sure that I can properly hook the sub up to increase/decrease volume with my music. Below is the post that I put out in 2 channel. If anyone can help out with a "yes it'll work", I'd be super duper appreciative. Thanks and I can't wait to get these babies ordered up!!! From 2 channel post: Ok guys, I did some reading and here's where I'm at: on my MX-113, I have a main out (stereo), a tape out (stereo) and a L+R out (single mono plug). I'm guessing I have 3 options: i could split my main out signal and plug one end in to my 2105 and the other into the sub amp. OR, I could use the tape outputs and run those directly to the sub amp. OR, I could split the mono output into two female ends and run those to the amp. Is any one of these more correct than another? My first logical guess would be to use the tape outputs, no? Jeff

  7. jpm, On the back of my 113, I have a main output to my amp and I have a tape out. Would I simply plug the sub into the tape out rca's? Jeff
  8. Craig, Right on! What I don't want someone to do is walk in and say "you added subs, hey?" The other responses are enough to convince me that I'm doing the right thing. Can anyone quickly confirm that I'll be able to use the subs with my Mac 2105 and 113 combo. I'm sure there's a term for this, but I just want the sub voume to increase and decrease with my music volume. Thanks again for all the input. Jeff
  9. Hey everyone- A while back, I posted in the sub section regarding the possibility of adding a pair of Klipsch Ultras/sub into the mix with my LaScalas to cover the lower octaves I'm missing without a sub. I'm finally able to make a purchase, but have a question that I thought may be best answered in the 2 channel section: Are those of you with 'Scalas and a sub finding that the two bass technologies mesh well together? I'm not able to hear a pair of ultras before purchasing, but I'm trying to make as educated of a purchase as possible. In other words, will I be able to distinguish which frequencies are coming from where? I understand that placement has a lot to do with this, but I'd like to hear from those who have heard this setup. I've heard K horns several times. Will LaScalas plus the subs be on par with or possibly outperform K horns? Lastly, I want to make sure I've covered my bases with being able to hook up the subs. I have a Mac 2105 and 113 preamp. I don't want to go into how to hook everything up right now, but will I be able to run a pair of ultras and a sub with my LaScalas using my 2105 and 113? Thanks to everyone in advance for you input. On a more definite note, I did put an order in for a pair of Cornwall III's!! Those of you in the Milwaukee area are welcome to swing by once I get them home. PS: I love electronic Tax Return filing! Jeff
  10. FWIW, I have an OPPO and love it! Simple, and excellent video quality. They're adding updates for the machine as well, which is quite helpful. There was a firmware upgrade in November 2005 and there's another one due out soon to help Sony HD crt users. Jeff
  11. I'd even say just send the AA's to Bob Crites for rebuilding. IMO, the AA's are a great sounding network.
  12. Everyone is bringing up really valid points. I've been able to hear Klipschorns several times and I remember liking them even more than LaScalas. . .But I haven't been able to A/B them with LaScalas. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Doc, Mark, and Craig bring up some excellent ideas with the Ultras (I kept referring to them as the THX subs). A pair of Ultras with LaScalas may be right up my alley. But as Craig and others said, I wont know about Klipschorns unless I try them. I think Im going to give the mighty Horns a try, but from the pics, does my "door" corner look like it'll be ok? The other one will be fine for sure. If I can at least match the sound of my LaScalas for now, I'm certain I'll go with the Klipschorns. It'll give me more incentive to someday have a room designed for K horns And as X Man said: if the K horns arent for me, I can always sell. Tid
  13. Sorry for the delay, but here are some pics of my room. The room is appx. 12 X 20, has 8 ceilings and hardwood floors. The two corner pics show the only two corners I can put K horns in (one of the long walls). The other pic shows my other long wall with my current setup and no corners due to the hallway and entrance to my kitchen. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Based on current input and my own desire (only Heritage speaker I havent owned!) I'm nearly certain the K Horns will be the way I go, but how's this for hijacking my own thread: For those that went to the last Klipsch gathering, how much better do the new LaScalas sound than other versions? I currently run 84's with stock AA networks. I've owned two pairs of LaScalas, several Cornwalls, and two pairs of Heresys and the LaScalas have always blown me away. From what I've read in other threads, the Scala II's are improved, but can anyone who owns Scalas do a comparison for me? Thanks Tid
  14. Dan, Thanks for your info, it helps greatly. It seems like I'm being wishy washy with info. but here's the scoop: I work part time for a local furniture/electronics store and can buy new Klipsch at pretty attractive prices. I've finally saved enough money and can splurge a bit. The chance to own new K-horns is a dream come true, but as mentioned, my current room isn't ideal. The Klipsch THX twins (w/ currently owned LaScalas) might be a better option right now, but I'm trying to look at future scenerios too. I'll try to post some pics tonight to give everyone a better idea of what my room looks like.
  15. Thanks for the responses guys. I'm leaning toward pulling the trigger on the Horns, but Parrot made a great point about actually seeing the room. I'll try to post some pics tonight to let you all know a bit more about where they'd be going. I'm keeping the LaScalas no matter what and would probably run them with the Horns. The long term idea is to eventually (in another house) put together an all Heritage home theater. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Mark brought up a good point that I didnt really think too long about either. I could buy a pair of Klipsch THX subs to run with the Scalas, rather than purchase the K Horns. That route may give me the best bang for the buck with my current room situation. But again, the K Horn deal is quite attractive price-wise. Ill get some pics of my livingroom posted tonight after work. Ratio-wise for length/width, its pretty decent at 12 X 20. But as youll see, I only have one decent corner in the WHOLE room! If anyone else wants to chime in, all thoughts are appreciated- Tid
  16. Hi all, Put money aside for this one, I'm only concerned with sound quality: Will K horns in bad corners sound worse than a pair of LaScalas? My bad corner consists of a door that makes up part of the corner. I'm curious how many cycles I'm going to lose having one out of a perfect corner. I have a chance to buy a pair of new Horns quite reasonably, with the thought that I will someday have a home built to accomodate K horns. BUT, if I'm going to be completely unhappy with them for several years until I move, I may be better off just using my LaScalas for now and and buying a pair of THX subs. Anyone have a chance to demo poorly placed K horns and want to chime in? Tid
  17. Thanks for the input everyone. I ordered the Oppo today and should have it early next week. I'll keep in touch with how it performs. have a good one- Jeff
  18. Here's my take: We had some killer parties at our place at UW Madison in the late 90's. Drunk people spill and bump into things endlessly, so make sure you have cabinets that aren't furniture quality. I have LaScalas now and think they'd be bass shy for SOME of the music we played. If you're using the SVS's htough, then LaScalas are easily the best choice I can think of. They're durable, don't have visible cones to get pushed in and torn by elbows, and can take some abuse on the volume. Our party room was about 600 square feet and it sounded ridiculously good and LOUD (several noise violations ), especially compared to what others used. We also kept our amp, mixer, and CD player in an area away from the dancing to keep beverages away. The BEST part is I'm nearly certain you'll resell them when you're done for what you paid for them. Try and do that with another pair of "party" speakers. BTW, American DJ's "Fog Hog" fogger was perfect for that size room. Couple that with a mirror ball, strobe, and another DJ light of your choice and you're set. Damn, I miss college
  19. Fellas, Thanks for your quick input. I'll check out the ratings today at lunch. It looks like I'll be able to get one in my range! If anyone else has particular models that have served them well, let me know. Thanks! Jeff
  20. Hi everyone, First, if anyone has suggestions on the search function of the board, help me out. You'd think we could sort the search by date too. I tried to look there first for recent info. I'm looking to upgrade my crummy $50 Toshiba player that's about 2 years old. LOTS of pixelation (sp?), even new discs. Pretty much a piece. I don't have any fancy cables for audio because my Mac preamp can only accept RCA, so I'm guessing that a new player with an average audio section may sound just as good as one with excellent audio on my setup. I do have the video with component cables though and a Sony tube HD (34HS420), so I wouldn't mind having a quality video section if possible. I know in my price range I'm not going to get the best, but are there any incredible values out there that I may be happy with? As always, thanks a ton for your input- Jeff Tiedke
  21. I received my DVD yesterday! Great service too, less than 48 hours and it was in my player. I'm pleased with the results, but interestingly, my TV wasn't too far off. My sharpness and brightness needed the most adjustment, but overall the factory settings would definitely be ok in my case. For $20 I think it's worth taking a look, even from an informational aspect alone. This sounds way too much like an info-mercial!! Thanks to all for the recomendations- Jeff
  22. I picked up the Digital Essentials disc off eBay today. I'll report back with my results. Thanks for the help guys! Jeff
  23. JM, Is it a software (Essentials DVD) issue that throws your green off, or did you mean that green was the only one that needed adjustment?
  24. Here's another thing fellas: My TV isn't anything special. It's a Sony tube 34HS420. I don't sit far from my screen (8') and the depth of the TV wasn't a huge deal, so I stuck with tube. Will I still benefit from using these DVD's, or is it mostly for LCD, DLP, and plasma stuff?
