  1. The 883 is a great starter bike, its just as fast as the 1200 sporty. The gearing is somewhat higher to make up for the lower horsepower & torque difference.

The bikes are dependable until you start tinkering with upgrades & such, then it depends on whats installed and done correctly or not.

I believe this applies to everything mechanical, If someone takes the time to do it right it will last and be dependable, If someone is a hack good luck ever using it again

I have unfortunately followed both

Absolutely, couldn't agree more. I spent every weekend at Great lakes dragway racing whatever i was working on (mostly Olds & Mopar) and if my cars were apart there was always Mom or Dad's car.

Worked great until dad found some time slips in the glovebox, woopsie.

  2. You did the opposite of me. I sold my 07 Road King Classic last summer and bought an R1200GSW. My beef with the HD was the seating position. I am accustomed to an upright riding position from dirt bikes and never really liked the backache I got from riding hunkered over on the Harley. On the BMW I ride upright, and love the power! It is one of the quickest bikes I've ridden and the quickest one I've owned.

Don't get me wrong. The Harley was a joy to ride, and was relaxing. I simply couldn't ride it for long or very often as my back had to recover.

Dirt bikes are a blast, i rode every available hour when i was a kid. Once they expanded the O'hare parking lot across Mannheim Rd my riding spot was gone, its now just a paved parking lot. :(

  3. To compete with your Cornwall's at higher volumes you're going to need at least one high output 15".

A horn sub would be a good alternative to compliment your mains.

  4. The wider you build it the flatter your response will be.

The smaller the room the more room gain it will have.

No 2 rooms are the same so your results will vary.

Your average room will result in 12dB gain per octave below 30Hz but like i said all rooms can vary & driver position will make a difference also.

The best looking position for your cabinet is not always best spot but like everything else in life there has to be compromises.

  5. nor would I want (IMHO) to compromise an all horn system with a couple of non-horn subs for the same reason. :D

    Dave

I agree with you here, why mate a distortion box sub with a nice set of horns.

Is that not the reason we use horns in the first place, to remove much of the distortion ?

Seamless transition from woofer to subwoofer is what most of us are after.

That seems a little harsh (distortion box).

Its a fact that direct radiating subs are much higher in distortion than a horn loaded sub.

Put 2 cabinets next to each other using the same driver, one horn loaded & one ported. You will hear the difference.
