  1. Tom, You better believe I was listening! I saw Myram's post and the first thing that came to mind was, "Oh @#*!, there's going to be a price war!" Thanks for not creating one. Keith, I'll let you know like you said when I get it and have some time to test it. I have the KV1 right now and it doesn't blend well with the 5.5's. I'm hoping, I pretty sure it will, that the KV3 does a better job.
  2. Kathy, The only thing I would do differently than Derek would be to use 12 guage. Other than that I think he's right on the money.
  3. Scott, I have the KG 5.5's as well. These speakers are not shielded. When I put them too close to the t.v. they cause strange colorations and distort the picture. You can do one of two things, move them farther away from the t.v., or install bucking magnets to make them shielded. To find the bucking magnets look in the Home Audio, parts price list to the left of the B.B.. I figured it would cost around $120 for the magnets, however much for the epoxy, and a little bit of time to install them.
  4. I'd say use the RF-3's. You could run your surround channel setup as large and have a full range signal. The only drawback I see is possibly losing the ability to elevate the speakers so that your surround speakers are more or less above you. Most of what I've read you want them above the seated position to give you a better affect. But, the RF-3's seem tall enough to give you the effects that you want.
  5. Roscoedawg, Forgot to ask, Did you enjoy the earthquake? I didn't feel it over here. Some people here say they did.
  6. I have KG 5.5's as my mains and a KV1 center channel currently. The KV series of center's is, I believe, the "matched" series to the KG series at the time. The KV1 is too small to keep up with KG's and my Infinity RS-425 rears. The KV3 is ported and has 2 6 1/2's compared to The KV1 which uses two 5 1/4's. The 425's have 6 1/2's as well. So, I think that the KV3 will better match my setup. Plus, the price I'm buying it for will be less than half of what the new one would cost.
  7. Thank you gentlemen. I thought that most recievers sent, and speakers took, analog signals only. I just wasn't sure. In regards to what Ray was saying about using the digital output from CD, DVD, is something I did with my CD player not to long ago. I used the toslink connection between my CD player and the receiver, therefore bypassing the CD player's digital to analog conversion, and it made a world of difference. Every range seemed to be clearer and more precise than before. Anyways, thank for the info. it is appreciated.
  8. Are you talking about the speaker cone? If you are the tear might have some negative affects on the sound. The tear could acctually let air through and that's not what you want with a sealed cabinet. Check out the parts price list in Home Audio and see how much it would be to replace the speaker.
  9. I need some help. A friend of mine was asking about digital to analog output to the speakers from the receiver. He was told by a sales person that a Denon receiver he was looking at converted the digital signal to analog before sending the signal to the speakers. The salesperson said that it sounded more "natural". I didn't know if this was true. Is this how most receivers send a signal to the speakers or is it a true digital signal that's sent using digital playback devices? It amazes me that the more I get into the realm of home audio the more I realize I don't know about the technical aspect of it. But I've got plenty of time to learn! Any input is appreciated.
  10. Tom, Check your e-mail. Thanks, Aaron
  11. Look in the Klipsch Home Audio section and bring up the parts price list. In it they list what speakers can use bucking magnets or shielding cups. I called Klipsch and asked them about shielding my mains and they said that if I used the bucking magnets I would have a 1db increase in output from those speakers. If I used the cups I would lose 1db. If I used both there would be no change. I think the cups might be easier to install. I'd go with the bucking magnets though, 1 db isn't much of an increase but more is better!
  12. The only problem I see with using a second set of surround outputs would be that you couldn't control the delay timing between each set of surrounds. Unless the Denon pre-amp allows you to vary the timing between the A and B set of surround outputs. Then you would be able to correct the timing of the surrounds so that it sounds right. Wiring both sets of speakers from the same output would present the same problem but I think there may be a way around it. If I'm not mistaken I think there is a device, similiar to an in-line capacitor, that you could run in-line to the rear-most surrounds so that you could delay the signal to them mechanically rather than electronically. I could be wrong and hopefully someone will correct me if I am. Worst case scenario I'd give the Klipsch techs a call and see what they have to say on the subject.
  13. Tom, I'll e-mail you in a few days and let you know what the scoop is. Thanks!
  14. Check out Omni Mount's website. I can't remember what it is exactly, but run a search for it and it should come up.
  15. 1) 57" to top of t.v. 2) 40" to ear 3) 12'6" from t.v. to ear
  16. Just wondering if anyone has a KV3 center channel in black that they want to get rid of. Obviously if its in good condition (no blown speakers, cabinet in good shape, etc.). If not does anyone know where I can find one?
  17. I'd go with the Marantz. I will admit that I'm biased though. I own the older brother to the 8000, the SR880. The differences between them seem to be more power per channel to the rears(880 75/ch., 8000 110/ch.)and DTS decoding. I have owned the receiver for nearly three years now and have no complaints. I have cranked the 880 more than a time or two with music and movies and have always been impressed. The only problem I have is I need a better center channel, the KV1 just doesn't cut it with the other speakers I have. I also have the RC2000 remote. Its very functional as remotes go, but the quality of the receiver is the most important thing.
